Lap 11~Round 6~Wild card (Free Verse)

    I don't wish
    to lay stagnant
    and forgotten

    Like some lost wonder
    of the world

    While I breathe
    I will burn
    Love
    The fuel to the fire

    Lap 11 Round 7 - Cats

    When I was six
    I found Max sleeping
    on the sidewalk.
    I thought 'that's
    a funny place to

    sleep,

    Maxey' and tried
    to wake him.
    Then Mum brought me
    back inside.

    Lap 11 - Round 8 - aabab

The tissues are beside the lynx spray
    on my locker, in disarray
scattered on untidy stacks of books
    that at nobody ever looks,
as I drift sleepily off, away.

    lap 11 - round 9 - PnQ member

There's a desk in my room
where I used to draw his face
    in charcoal, and ended up
    smudging the paper
    in a black hole;
    there's a mirror I've stared
    enough at, to know
    that I can't step into
    another world ...

And when I cleanse all of this,
    wringing out the cloth
in an attempt to wring out
    my thoughts

    I see her

    in soap bubbles,
    in my water-wrinkled hands,
in the corners of the cloth.

    She's everywhere, reminding me
    of hardships that dissolve
in water, like the dirt that I swept
    off my alarm clock.

    She's become the face
staring back at me, when I draw
and the woman in the mirror
    I wish to be.

    She's Myryn, the mother
    that's with me
    when I cleanse
    my memories.

    Lap 11 Round 10 - Alliterative

    When the trumpets trill
    and violins vibrato,
    flutes float above me.
    Shostakovich's Second Symphony -
the captivating catch and climax -
    berates me from breath.
    The overwhelming orchestra
    plays final chord and closure.
    I'm clapping, crying
    sitting silently,
    holding breath as they bow.

    It's halloween
    and it's raining
    into our pumpkin baskets,
    candies go with the flow
    down the street
    and off the hills,
and there's a river of toddlers
    meandering behind those goodies.

    Bravery isn't a sky jump
    or telling a bully
    to stop.
    Bravery isn't
    having your sister hit you,
    or falling off your bike
    and bleeding.
    It's not a telling off
    from Mum, nor telling
    your crush
    you like them. Bravery
    is dropping your ring
    down the toilet
    and going in after it.

    Lap 12 - Round 3 - Water

    If I could swim
    one thousand oceans
    a whole life would have
    passed me by.

    By then, it would be
    long enough
    to forget you. For
    the colour of your eyes
    will be the ocean,
the smell of your skin -
    the ocean, and your voice
    will be overhead gulls
    and falling waves. And I
    will be buried at sea.

    Lap 12 - round 5 - microscope

My little sister asked me today
why the moon is so small
    and far away.
    She wants to steal it
    from that endless sky
and eat it, so her tummy
    shines with silver delight.

    When I told her
    that the sea would anger
    when she steals
    their only source of light
that doesn't sink its burning tiara
    into its body

she became so red and furious
I thought she was the bloody ocean itself

So I took a fistful of spinach
and put it under the microscope
    for her to see

    pointing at the white circles
    and telling her that
    the moon is in everything
    that lives.

    Now she's grown up
    healthy and content
    for eating so much moons
    and spinach these years.

    Pt II.

But I climbed out the window
    to crawl to the pavement.
    Max the kitten was
    still
    there. Still, silent.
    I scratched Maxey's belly
    for the last time,
    my hand sticky
    from fur stuck
    to blood. "Maxey,"
    I asked, "have you
    been painting
    with red?"
    I didn't know that Max
    was dead.

    Somehow, when Luna

    I can only smile

    put it on the page

    Last year the goblins came
    and knocked on the door.
    As did
    the cotton skeletons,
    the toilet paper mummies,
    and the face-painted witches.
    I held out the bowl
of halloween candy, and told them
    "one each." The greedy
    little undeads
    all
    shoved their grubby
    little claws in for more
    and ran.
    This year I'm making toffees
    mixed with glue.

    Magic mushrooms
grow on the landscape of my body

    Science Lab Six
    is for biology. When
    school's out, though,
    the microscopes
    have lessons of
    their own. When it's
    dark, they clamber out
    of their cupboard,
    all twenty-six of them,
    and turn the music
    up. Don't ask me how,
    but the microscopes dance
    their microscopic dance
    to release the pressures
    of a hard day
    at work.

Mama Mia mimics Madonna's muscles makeup and body movements in front of a marble, mosaic-framed mirror on magenta margined, and shaped mermaid wall like a marmalade machine, milling and mashing in madness, from morning to midnight in a memorable, mesmerizing manner of mimicking.

    Lap 13 - round 7 - cats

    It's Sunday afternoon
and my claws are already clipped.
No one's home and the tv
    only shows me how Jerry
    always tortures Tom.
    They never speak
but the music says it all
and sometimes I just want to
    live in music, too.
    The room is silent anyway,
    only burps fill the air
    and sometimes the sound
    of scratches on the sofa.
    I feel like Garfield
    during a Sunday afternoon,
    and wonder why I can't
    jump off the roofs
    like a jaguar
    and become the silhouette
of super cat in the moon.

Jerry grabbed the cheese again -
just nine boring lives to go.

    But nothing's more beautiful

    Lap 14 - Round 4 - Free Verse

    In my kingdom, I keep
    whatever I please.
    My lounge is home
    to my dragon, who flies
    in and out
    as he pleases. My lake
    finds the loch ness
    and in my forest, are
    gorgons, harpies, and
minotaur. In my ocean, the sirens
    and chimaera play.
    Cerberus guards my castle,
    so I feel safe knowing
    no human can enter
    my world.
