    * Each submitted poem, if it complies with the theme of the round, will earn an easy 5 points straight away for your team, regardless of quality.
    * Poems will also be roughly judged for quality- a maximum of 5 points can be earned for a high quality poem (giving a maximum total of 10).

    HOW TO RACE

    * Anyone can start the race by submitting a poem for the first round in this thread.
    * Another team member then completes the second round, and so on.
    * A person who has submitted a poem MAY NOT submit another entry until FOUR further rounds have been completed by other members of the team.
    * All poems MUST be new and submitted here by the authors themselves.
    * You may plot your team strategy within your club. CLUB LEADERS, it is up to you to do all you can to get your team's entries racing along. Bribe, threaten, shame, PM, blackmail...but get those rounds completed!
    * With each entry, PLEASE LIST the Lap #, Round #, and the theme with your title.
    * If all 13 rounds have been completed, the team can start from the Round 1 theme again to earn more points in further laps. These laps are unlimited.
    * The team with the most points wins. Individual team members who gain the most points will also be recognised.
    * It all ends on 00:00 9 October, PnQ time.

Wild Card- Round 6- Lap 24. (Grandmothers)

    She doesn't last forever.
    You all fail,
    To realize,
    That the wise,
    Will be gone,
    At the blink,
    Of an eye.

    She who raised,
    The ones who,
    Raised you,
    Will crumple up,
    Like paper,
    When it comes,
    To the end,
    Of her,
    Life time.

    So please oh,
    Please don't,
    Take the old,
    For granted.
    Grandmothers,
    Will soon be,
    Gone before,
    You even know,
    They are.

    Lap 24 - Round 7 - Insect

    Lady beetles
    are just pessimistic
    flying mushrooms,
    for their legs
    just like their dots,
    are multiplied
    by blackness
    and they're much
    fatter, and less
    delicious

    Lap 24 - round 8 - acrostic

    Love isn't a cheap lipstick smile that's
erased by the sight of a moneyless man -
    thousands of cancerous butterflies
    heap beneath your skin
as you scratch up your body, realising that
love gnaws further through the soul.

Lap 24- Round 9- Superhero OR mythological creatures OR celebrities

    Fairy dust sprinkles,
    The drops of rain,
    Adding a sparkle,
    To the muddy puddles.

    Wings sprout on the sun,
    Pink and blue intertwine,
    As it sets into the,
    Land of the Fairies.

    Sweet and innocent smiles,
Flutter in the late evening wind.

    Lap 24 - Round - 10 - Cooking

    Who needs a cooking pot
    and over-sized spoons
    when microwaves
    and instant noodles exist.

    A modern lady doesn't.

    Lap 24 - round 11 - nature

    Starfishes tan
at the bottom of the sea,
    waiting for their blurry sky
to blacken - as if a swarm
of locusts has eaten the clouds -
    so they may synchronize
    with their siblings
    up above.

Lap 24- Round 12- Seven lines

I swear I saw your face again.
When I woke up in the morning,
My pillow case was drenched in tears.
The last time I saw you I was stronger,
But my fragile heart can't take anymore.
Lick up the last bit of happiness I have,
    Won't you?

    Lap 24 - Round 13 - Magic

    I am the woman
    you should fear

    my tarot cards
    narrate your future

    and your dreams
    of deaths divine

    I hold your world
on the palm of my hand

    I am the Gypsy Queen

    Lap 25 - round 1 - grandmothers

    I haven't seen my grandmother
in three years now, and I wonder
    whether she remembers me.
    Her memory isn't much
    a walking stick anymore:
    it fails to keep her
    on the paths of clarity.

    Sometimes she plucks a flower
and calls it Queen of the Night,
for she knows that I was born
in the presence of the moon,
but she forgot that I don't bloom
    in her presence anymore.

    Lap 25 - Round 3 - aabba

    Candy coated night
    under the majestic light
    Feed my hunger and desire

for this freeway is such a fright

    Lap 25 - round 4 - free

You once gave me a ring
    that could unlock
    the gates to my soul
    the way an iris does.
    Its orb swirled
    in red hues,
    like when passion
    and anger collide -
    suffering
    from mood swings
as your face revealed a smile
    that looks like a giftwrap
    of petals and fangs.

Lap 24 round 5 include the word squirrel

    If I could climb up,
    To get what I wanted.
    And travel when I found,
    Something better,
    Like a squirrel,
    Then I'd actually be,
    ...happy.

    Lap 25 - Round - 6 Wild Card

    And the moon
    winked me goodnight
    heaving in gulps
    of lightning..

    upon the starless
    and charcoal
    black
    night sky,
    serenading

    the midnight atumn rain

    Lap 25 - round 7 - insect

If I take the blades of a grasshopper
and the horn of a rhino beetle,
    I'd create the perfect
    heartbreaker-assasinator.
    Such innocence glancing at him
    with those onyx pits,
    as he tries to catch
    the insect that doesn't
    quite look familiar,
    trying to set it free
    into the open world.
    Well, he is free,
    free to drill holes
    in those perfect lips
    and slice off
    the fingers
    that burnt
    at my glowering cheeks
    just yesterday.

    Lap 25- round 8- Acrostic

    Until I see you again
    Please rest in peace
Out in the fields of love
Naive soul such as yours should confide.

    Hustled to the very
    End of your young life
Rested in the palm of his hands.

    Granite faces
    Realize what they've lost
    As they lay you down
    Veiled with respect and value
Enough to call you a hero.

    Lap 25 - Round 9 - Mythological being

    Of all the beasts
    in my kingdom, cerberus
    was the hardest to train.
    His three heads
    had three minds
    that couldn't
    remember my name,
    let alone
    how not
    to maim
    me. It goes
    against my will,
    but he now stands
    with metres of chain,
    and I don't exit
    via the front door
    anymore.

    Lap 25 - round 10 - cooking

I always see pig heads on plates
with apples stuffed into their mouths,
and I wonder why their eyes are still open
as if it's alive and begging you
to eat that red, tasty ball first.
So I stole my little sister's plushy pig
and hanged it so its head would drop off,
then put it in the plastic oven
so its skin gets crunchy like kentucky chicken.

But with no money in my pockets,
I took my brother's tennis balls
and dipped them in some strawberry punch.
The oven alarmed, the pig is ready to be filled
and when I came back thirty minutes later
the pig was still there, staring at me
    just like the pictures,

    Little Luna has succeeded.

    Lap 25- Round 11- Nature

I watched as the drops of rain,
Traveled down the clear car window.
It trickled and slid as lights whizzed by,
    And I just watched.

I wished my soul was as pure,
    As the freezing midnight winds.
They blow and whisper in the trees,
    And I just wished.

I hoped my smile was as beautiful,
Like the leaves that are carried,
By the soft breeze hushed in the summer,
    And I just hoped.

    Lap 25 - Round 12 - Seven Lines

    Learning to knit, I kept
    dropping
stitches, or gaining them. I whined,
and told my mother to do it. She did,
and only when I had my brand new woolen
stitched up teddy bear did I decide that
    I liked knitting.

    Lap 25 - round 13 - magic

    Blackberries and iPhones

    If I was granted magic
    I'd destroy all
    that pings and rings,
    for I am tired
    of these machines
    at the size
    of a palm,
    pretending to be
    a wizard box
    to chain yourself
    with your friends

    Lap 26- Round 1- Grandmothers

Gathers herself up just to get groceries.
Raises her voice above her high school sweet heart.
Always swears under her breath but denies it.
Mumbles for all of us to have fun.
Makes every event a magical one.
Yearns for a mother who cares for her responsibilities.

Lap 26- Round 4- Free Verse

    Thump.
    Thump.
    Thump.
I sat near the apple tree,
    Tearing apart delicate flowers.
Mother is singing in the kitchen,
Her lilting voice floats to the front yard.
    Thump.
    Thump.
    Thump.
I was listening to the sound,
Of the apples hitting the green ground.
    It must be very angry,
Because no one enjoys being hit,
    With ripe apples.

    Lap 26 - Round 5 - Squirrel

    In New Zealand, we
    don't have exotic things
    like pop tarts, raccoons
    or squirrels. All we have
    is marmite, kiwis,
    and sheep. There are
    some nice trees here,
    I suppose, but there
    is no Mordor, and really
    not a lot else.

    Lap 26- round 7- Insect

Flies and gnats, probably live life,
just too annoy, people who lack hygiene, and
those who carry food. sometimes I wish,

too kill every little gnat and fly,
    that strives to annoy.

    Lap 26 - Round 11 - Nature

    When it snows,
I am a soft snow leopard,
    and I am home
    everywhere. The city
is my prowl. I am king
    of the earth
    when it snows. The people,
    the animals, they part
    the streets
    for me. My paws
    sink
    into each bound,
    while hurricanes erupt
    onto my face.

    Lap 26 - round 12 - seven lines

You wore the wind like a wedding ring
and tried to billow beyond crackles.
Were you an oarsman to steer direction
or the voyager who's lost his compass?
Ashore was where the sails becalmed,
so wept did the tempest in my palm,
as the lighthouse flares further into the sky.
