So, I've just recently decided to become more active on PnQ, although I've been quite active in the club Moonlight Muses for a while now, and the little community here on PnQ honestly amazes me.

Relatively, there are truly only a few people who are really active in the forums here, but those of you that are active have formed a little community all your own. Everyone may not always get along, but in a community that is to be expected.

One of the things I truly love about PnQ, is that we have people from all over the world on here. From many countries, and regions within those countries. Despite the time differences, and cultural differences, you all really come together here. and I think that's awesome

So, just a few points of discussion that I'd like to hit up (but please do take this anywhere you want, as long as it isn't in an unpleaseant direction)

How do you feel about your internet friends?

Have you made any friends on here that you feel particularly close to, despite the distance involved?

What do you think of the PnQ community?

How do you feel about your internet friends?

I think they're the easiest friends to have. The can't show up on your doorstep unexpectedly just to say hi (I HATE THAT. Big pet peeve, I'd like a courtesy call before you walk in my house lol).

Have you made any friends on here that you feel particularly close to, despite the distance involved?

Yes, tons of them! I've met Chelsey, and she's gonna be in my wedding, so I'd say thats pretty close. Lol. Thats just one of many.

What do you think of the PnQ community?
I think we're all freakin' nuts!

    - How do you feel about your internet friends?

^ They are great. I like to keep in touch with them, not that in touch because it's cyber-space in the end, and I don't like building cyber-space relations that would end.. eventually.

Have you made any friends on here that you feel particularly close to, despite the distance involved?

^ Yes! There are many: The Poetess (She is in the country-next door :) --- Tara (in UK) --- Ms Sunshine (she's like 40 Kms+ away from here, living in the capitol of Lebanon :) --- and so many others... but these are the people whom are always in touch with me.

Haha, Abed! I swear you are so close to me. :)
Me and you and Tara are the perfect gang, Lol.

How do you feel about your internet friends?

They are always there, they don't change with you for no reason, they rarely gossip, they cannot reach you so no pulling hair away, lol. They are closer to me than my high school friends for example. I love internet friends, though I should say I hate FB, I don't have any friends on there, I just have friends online from PnQ, PnQ only. :)

Have you made any friends on here that you feel particularly close to, despite the distance involved?

Abed, he is an amazing guy, so kind-hearted and spontanious. I love 'em. Yesterday (maybe?) we were talking on the phone.
There is Tara, my sister on here, I adore everything she says. She is smart.

Yaki! She is my babygirl, I adore her! Lovely smart honet and neat person, besides, I can relate to 99% of her poetry. She expresses herself in a simple enchanting way and I like that.

Mera Luna, she is such a nice person. I love her. We are close, because we are the same, lol! We have things in common, I am 16, she is 15 (?) :P
We talk on MSN and she listens to me when I nag :P about my silly life and boyfriend haha. <3

Sir Larry, he is my father. Love you, Sir.

Rabea, he is my big brother, he always yells at me, Lol. :( Dunno why! haha.
Me and him are close to some extent, I must say, but he doesn't drop in every once in a while :(

EDITED: Well, I just had a PM from him saying hello! Lol. He must has read my post :P

Ingrid, she is a very brave-hearted woman, I admire her personality, she advised me about my weight and such and I was so grateful to her, because she helped me a lot. :)

What do you think of the PnQ community?

PnQ is my shelter, usually when I'm mad I do nothing, I talk to nobody, but I always sign on here, even when I'm in my worst situation.
I LOVE poetry like nothing else, so, I guess poems-and-quots is my closest friend.

    :)

Nevi, thanks for that, we PMed each other once and I think you are such a nice person! :D I thank you for making this thread. ;P

They're the very best, I trust them more then most of my friends off the internet lol They're the rays of sunshine on my dark days and it's nice to know they're always right there. Plus they don't want anything from you, don't eat all your cookies, don't make you listen to horrible music and don't stay past their welcome in your house lol

Have you made any friends on here that you feel particularly close to, despite the distance involved?
    *
Definitely! I've met some of the most fantastic people on here, they've become my closest and best friends. From Mexico, Norway, Istanbul, Australia, China, within my own country but timezones away. I know they're always there for me. They keep me up nights here while they get ready for their days and we don't sleep much lol But they're fantastic

Honestly? They're all totally nuts and absolutely wonderful :) This has always been my safe haven thanks to the wonderful people on here

How do you feel about your internet friends?

I believe that it's a matter of trust. You don't really know who or what is on the other side of that avatar, but you must take them at face value unless proven otherwise. It's uncanny how fakes seem to leap out and you shy away from them. But in general the friends I make on the internet are as genuine as those I know face-to-face. My regret is that due to distances, it's not as likely to be able to meet most of them in person. I'd love to sit down with a group of people from here & share a few pots of coffee, some bottles of wine, talk all day & into the night.

Have you made any friends on here that you feel particularly close to, despite the distance involved?

Of course, how could I not? Nana, Meme, Sara, Michael, Liz, Rab, Abed, Hassan, Matt, Joe, Kristian, Holly, Sherry, Sibs, Jane, Connie, Hellon, Noura, Abby, Britt, Nor, ...
Even if I've only shared an event or a few conversations, I've met people here that are wonderful.

What do you think of the PnQ community?

I've been in several places set up like PnQ. The longest before was in a Celtic research group called Clannada. Always I expected an expiration date. I knew sooner or later that I'd grow away from the site.
Not PnQ. It feels like I found Home.

    Nice thread ! :)

How do you feel about your internet friends?

to be honest ? i have made some very tight relations on the internet. Disappointing ones and great ones!

People on the net can lie at you, especially those who you don't live next to. I have been lied at by a lot, at the same time, I have met some of those friends who i will never ever forget.

Have you made any friends on here that you feel particularly close to, despite the distance involved?

Yes, Jacey comes on the top of my list, I wait for her to come back from work haha when it's almost 5 am my time, she's there when i wake up, we must catch up ...as soon as possible, I think we are pretty much like sisters who live in different countries cause we talk about everything and anything with all honesty..on daily basis (most of the times).

Larry, I could never get married without his approval haha, he is my cyberfather ! :D the one who listens and always got the right words to say, I appreciate his presence in my life.

Britt is someone who means the world to me, as much as I annoy her by stupid phone msgs..I know she loves me, I am her happy pill XD who makes her laugh :P

Rabea is my sweetheart we always used to talk on phone, and we still are close, he is not allowed to leave :P and I believe we gna meet any time in the future, as they do have a house here in Lebanon and will come visit.

ABED, lebanese pheonix i trust him so much, and I know we gna meet soon :P, he lives like 20 to 30 mins away from me!

Sylvia, someone who is very sincere, someone who I do get worried about, and feel obliged to ask about to make sure, she is doing well. a great woman.

YAKI, she is uuummm I do not even have words to describe :P...she knows what she means for me anyway! but all those I am mentioning the the ppl who i really consider very close, and we do have a great connection.

    MEME
(girl) my celine dion, we talk on phone, on msn, here, everywhere...close friends! And I will call her tomorrow LOL :D

hhhhmmm just really many i wont be able to list..but thank god i do have many close people over here...deceived by some, but majority,, very close :)

What do you think of the PnQ community?

it's my medication, a place where i met some of those who left huge impacts over me, some of those who i would be a different person without talking to, a place where i share my work, and where my works gets stolen haha.. na seriously, i would be someone else without this community, and I do not even want to imagine! :]

"Nevi, thanks for that, we PMed each other once and I think you are such a nice person! :D I thank you for making this thread. ;P"

Thanks Noura! :) I look forward to more conversations with you in the future
    ---------------

Also, I'd like to thank everyone who has participated thus far, and hope we can have some awesome conversation here.

But silly me, I forgot to answer these myself.

How do you feel about your internet friends?

I've not been very active on PnQ for a long time, and I wasn't extremely active when I was on before. But I find that, like Larry said, you never know what is on the other side of that avatar, but you have to take it at face value. I think that over time, some internet friendships can be very genuine, and just as real as "real" friendships

Have you made any friends on here that you feel particularly close to, despite the distance involved?

Like I said before, I haven't really been around much until lately. But I really do feel a friendship growing with the people I talk to on here, mostly in the M&Ms

Narph: She was the first real PnQ friend I had, and aside from amazing comments and helpful criticism. She's just a really nice, fun person to talk to. She was the reason I got into Moonlight Muses, and I think she's an amazing poetess.

Britt: In my welcome thread in the M&Ms, Britt was the first to start teasing me (lightly of course, but it was an icebreaker) and that made me feel welcome. From that moment on, I knew I'd be just fine with them. Britt is just a great person to have a conversation with, and she's always been very nice.

Yaki: Another M&M, Yaki just cracks me up. She's really extroverted, and friendly. But she's got a fierce side to her. I always have fun throwing spanish out there with Yaki in the club, much to Britt's dismay.

Temps/Jacey: I have yet to really have a full conversation with Temps, but we've talked a few times. and she is a really friendly person (I know I've used friendly like, every time so far. but I can't help myself) and funny at that. I look forward to getting to know you better

Melpomene: Mel!! I adore Mel. She's an amazing poetess, a really sweet person. She's artistic in every sense of the word, and I'm whole-heartedly jealous of that. Mel is never negative about anything, and always supportive and dedicated to her club (This girl is constantly loaded down with stuff for Uni, and STILL manages to rock the PnQ world!!!)

Mel and Yaki are the only two that I'm close to so far that live in different countries from me, and despite time differences between all of us. I cherish every second of madness that goes on in the club discussions.

A few that I've talked to that I'd like to know better:

Hellon, Nana, and Noura have all had brief pm talks with me in the past, and I think they are all very talented, kind people.

As for the rest of you, I look forward to getting to know you all better!!!! As you can see, I need more guy friends :p haha.

What do you think of the PnQ community?

I think PnQ is great. It's such a diverse place, even without a physical body. PnQ is a place where I can come and vent, just have fun talking to people, share my poetry, and seek therapy or amusement in the work of others. I fell in love with PnQ after my return, and I get online here just as much (maybe more) as facebook.

How do you feel about your internet friends?

They know more about some subjects in my life than pretty much anyone else. I never expected that to happen! But I think having a sort of anonymity is very freeing. While there is more potential for deception, there is also an opportunity for you to be more honest than you otherwise would be. My internet friends are real friends, even if I never meet them.

Have you made any friends on here that you feel particularly close to, despite the distance involved?

I'm pretty tight with my Club. We're a little core group of people with some similarities and many differences. I'm facebook friends with some of them, so that adds another layer. Jane, Abby, Jordan, Nicko, Kevin, Britt, Michael, Hellon, Amanda, Noir, Nor, Sunshine, Larry, Sher... You're all "real" people to me, even the ones I don't talk to often.

What do you think of the PnQ community?

It's loco, for real. You get a bunch of passionate, artistic people and there are bound to be some clashes. But I feel like, more and more, the people who have stayed are really dedicated. We're kind of in this through thick and thin, and I think we all share something that makes us able to work through any problems we might have. This place has become a home for a lot of people over the years, even if they're just stopping by for a while.

How do you feel about your internet friends?

Getting to know friends over the internet is bizarre. Bizarre and awesome. We see each other's minds and fall in love with our differences.

Have you made any friends on here that you feel particularly close to, despite the distance involved?

Oh yes, quite a few. You know who you are.

  • Mag

    Ok, so I'll tack on few words from me;
to be honest, I think there are no barriers to strike up a friendship via net, really. I can say it from the perspective of being for a long time in such situation and I have already met many wonderful people. The point is just to find the proper environment where your potential soul mates reside.
Let alone, when you're behind the shield (which particulary PC screen) you are more likely to reduce the distance as it would exist in real life, since you feel safe enough to open up. Hence I sort of dont perceive such relations as less profound. And ofc, there are certain circumstances that make a relationship between people more genuine.

    But anyway, gals and guys,
what other passions do you share aside from poetry?
what makes you have the feeling of the actual closeness in the internet friendships?

  • Nevi

Haha. I fear this PnQ dream-thing may be contagious. I had a dream about Britt the other night.

Maybe we're connetcted via some psychic network specific to poets :D
