    Hey guys,

I just found someone else has posted one of my poems on another website and I assume they're trying to claim it as their own.

Has anyone else had the same problem??? If so how did you handle it!

    Thanks guys,

    Lizzie

All the time. You can try contacting the sites admins or mods. I've joined all poetry and had to do this.

I had people take my poems but not try to clam them....all the credit goes to me.....but with this......ask the person before you assume the're stealing your work.

If they post your poem under their own account, they are stealing your work...no doubt about it. I don't know how it's a gray area?

Thanks heaps for your reply guys.

He posted the poem on another web page under his own account. His email addy was there so I kindly asked him to remove it. I wouldn't mind it being on there if he said specifically that he didn't write it or that I did

How much does it cost to copyright poems? Does anyone know average cost?

    Thanks guys

I'm not a believer in copyrights or IP laws, if someone wants to use my poem by all means go ahead and spread my medicore work around the world!

I think there are a lot of people that probably feel the same way as you do.

If they stated that they didn't write it or that I wrote it, I would have no problem.

I just think it's wrong what he's done

Ryan. Though I understand where you're coming from I do think that we all should think in terms of our works being unique in the fact that maybe some of our writings seem unworthy we should always protect what we write.
A little short but true story. I have a brother in-law who had a local country band. Back in th sixties we were invited to participate in a promotion gimmick put on by a cheap recording company in Virginia. The winner was to receive a contract, to include producing, recording production, and they would play on 100 radio stations all expenses paid. My brother in law wrote a song especially for the occasion. Out of 10 bands he made maybe 7th position. Loser. Well a year later we heard his song being played on the radio performed by a well known artist. Only a little bit of it was changed what remained was the theme, the chorus and the rhythm.
He tried to get reprieve but He We never read the entire contract to the rules and at the bottom in the proverbial fine print was that any and all submissions would become the property of the companies in so many words.
The song is still being played today by some pretty well known artists. My brother in-law is a pauper on social security. So copyright? You bet your sweet bippy.

    Never sell yourself short.

It does suck to be on the other end of "theft" but an idea in someone's head is not material. Stealing music or words on a piece of paper is ludicrous. Anyone at anytime could think those very things they just didn't write it down or play it on an instrument and run to government to back their idea up. Learn to market, make covers. You can pay homage without paying a fee. A lazy person is going to do terrible in a free market of any kind because the government isn't going to be around to save you from horrible decisions you made. IE... not reading the fine print.

So because something isn't physical material, it can't be stolen? That's an interesting philosophy.

All the same, anyone on here caught plagiarizing poems or songs will be out on their butts on cold, non-physical internet streets. Let that be a warning.

Just an update guys... I emailed the culprit who had my poem on his blogger account and received a reply. He has now since removed my poem without question which is great! The only thing I found the same poem I wrote on another bloggers page. They had no contact details so I have made a complaint to google.

The person I found copying my poem was not on this site.

    Gotta love this site!!!

Britt. Copyright laws are to include even laying claim to what is not legaly yours. So I am not at liberty to mention titles no matter how insignifacant parts are.

  • Britt

Okay, no titles...how about lyrics? The people who covered it? Lol

I've had people TRY, and told them I'd tell a mod, then the person didn't steal, but posted VERY rude comments on my poems.

Hannah Elizabeth, you can complain on any offensive comments (there is a button/link for it) and they'll get sent to the mods for review. We will either leave, delete them, or delete them with a penalty, depending on how bad it is.

Yes, I do realize that now...lol. The first time, I didn't see the "Delete Comment" button thing, so I went to a mod, and then it was deleted. It wasn't till later I saw the "Delete Comment" button. Lol.
But the comment was like "I don't like this poem at all. I hate it, it's terrible. On a scale 1-10, 1 being the worst I'd give it a 1"
Just being rude, yknow? But I have not seen that person back on the website...so it's all good for me, lol.

Oh man that sounds so rude and vindictive!!!

You wouldn't want that person on this website anyways. I would google some of your poems to see if they are on another website. Thats's how I found mine to begin with.

They may not have taken your poem here but may have somewhere else...

It is so pathetic when people get angry and childish for no reason. There was no need for that person to go that far!!!
