Blizzard in October? What?

Did any one else (on the East Coast) get hit with the blizzard? Over 800,000 people here in Connecticut were out of power (currently it's at 600,000 people with out power).

I myself had a massive sliver maple tree fall in my yard. And to top off all the craziness, I am having my house re-sided, I am getting a gas line put in, and I am getting a new electric service box installed.

Anyways, hope all are safe. :)

    Peace and Love,
    Joe

No blizzards here, but the wind is picking up today. Wouldn't be surprised if some trees have split in half.

    Stay safe, Joe.

Oufff! thank God, in Syria, we have no blizzards, nor earthquake, nor ...anythinggggg.

    Stay safe, Joe! and everyone.

Hope everyone is staying warm out on the east coast!

We haven't had snow yet here this year, but I know we got 21 inches of snow on Halloween 20 years ago. Or I guess, within a 24 hour period that included Halloween. It has become one of those "can you remember what you were doing when....?" events. We trick-or-treated in a sled.

Haha Sibs, nice or not so nice memory. In some locations of CT we got over 23 inches of snow. Personally where I live, I got approximately 18 inches.

I agree Nano, I'm thankful that where I live we don't have to worry too much about natural disasters like earthquakes or tsunamis to worry about, I can't imagine what that would be like. Although, we do get blizzards most often, the odd tornadoes, are suitable to both drought and flood, which we had this year thanks to all the rain.

I heard some of my friends back home mention something about snow, but so far there's nothing on my end. Although, I do expect we'll be hit soon.

'Tis a season to be jolly.... Yes? No? Haha.

    Be safe everyone!

My friend is over east working for FEMA, he said it was friggin' nuts. It's 37* and sunny as can be here. I don't usually get snow where I'm at.. maybe for one day a year on a normal year. Stay safe!

Just heard on the news that the storm in the northeast caused 23 deaths? That's terrible! Stay safe Joe, hope everything improves there soon.

Nothing crazy here yet, but it is the start of November, I'm sure I'll be seeing plenty of snow soon.. ugh.

I have a friend in Connecticut she's been telling me it's pretty bad there. I hope you stay safe!

Where I am in Texas it's just getting cold so far :P Still in the high 80's to 90's during the day but by 4 pm it starts to drop fast. Been down in the high 30's at night so far. I miss the summer heat already lol So glad I no longer live in a area that gets lots of snow every year

Oh sweet Jesus, I did jinx it! we have a storm in the next few days, haha. A rainstorm, I hope we can stay alive, jeeze, lol. Abed, how is it where you live?

I love rain, but I hate it when I can't go to school because of it. I guess we are going to be absent for two days or so. I've just heard that, maybe it is not that bad, or just a wrong rumor. Hmmmm.

Ok, I spoke to soon about our weather lol We're getting hit with a sever wind storm, been blasting us since about 6 PM so almost 10 hours so far. Had to walk the dog and just about ended up on the ground and had to hold onto the stop sign pole for a bit it was so hard :P

You could send some of that rain Texas's way! We're still in a drought :P

It rained suddenly also for a consecutive hour! and some random minutes

Is rain for an hour a big deal?? LOL. Here we have rain for months at a time...October-April usually.. lol

Well, we used to have 4 seasons.. and winter was so generous... raining over hours per day (for 3.5..maximum 4 months)... this was like before 2008.

After 2008, rain became like some kind of miracle (Last year, all mosques made a call for all citizens to come and pray for RAIN onl!)

    ... Thanks God.

Britt, last night, in Syria it rained for two hours and a half, and we were swimming in the strrets. :] It's not about time, it's drizzling in here, goshhh, I love rain.

Abed, you should turn on the TV some time soon, you're all going to be hit with a rainstorm in Lebanon, lol. Unlike us, the Syrians, we have a snowstorm! =/ Hmmmm.

Joe, how is it going there where you live?

    Lol :)
    I wish so.

    A week off XD

  • Britt

You get snow? I guess I don't know a thing about Syria or it's land/weather etc.. lol. We have a Lebanon in Oregon, and their weather was on the news last night, I started crackin' up thinkin' about this.

I listen to talk radio/news all day and haven't heard any more updates about the east coast being slammed with more snow, so it sounds like either 1. They don't care to report it or 2. It's gotten better (hopefully). East coast has had a terrible time! :/

  • nouriguess

Well, a week off would be so nice, but I don't think the government is generous enough to give us something like that. At least, us the students. x)

Hmmm, Britt, I don't think they don't care, I hope it's getting better. =/ Joeeeeee, any news?

EDITED: Oh sweet God. It's raining! :D

Haha, I was wondering when this would show up. My college got about a foot overnight. The next day there were trees and branches down absolutely everywhere.... needless to say, the whole valley was out of power, ANND then the generator died.
So all students were evacuated on Sunday (it was a mess), and we were fiiinally allowed back Wednesday. Just to give you an idea, even four days after being evacuated, the school was housing some 200 workers/electricians/emergency crews that were working nonstop. I hear some buildings at other schools still don't have power. Blegh.
But yeah. Freak storm. It's waayyy early for that much snow.

^I'm glad you are okay! :O

  • Italian Stallion

Well, people are still out of power here. Currently the number without power is 300,000.

  • nouriguess

Does that mean something good or bad? lol

  • Italian Stallion

Bad...originally the number of people here in Connecticut that lost power was 800,000 and that was over a week ago. Now having been over a week that the storm has hit there are still over 300,000 people that have no power. That means 38% of the people who originally lost power still don't have power. Meaning they have no lights, heat, hot water, etc. In all honesty for the northeast (being that we deal with this kind of weather all the time) this is unacceptable. Power should've been on for everyone with in a few days not weeks.

I remember during the 2006 war on Lebanon, electricity and water were off for like 4 days under bombs and ghost-like planes.. and if they came, they would come for like 3 hours/day.

I know.. it's terrible not to have power.. water..

  • nouriguess

That sounds so terrible. The government must do something, because 38% is such a big, big number. I hope you are all alright there, Joe, keep us updated, okay?

  • Larry Chamberlin

Unfortunately the government can only fund it. The power companies have to do the work putting in new power lines and connections. When Hurricane Ike came through Houston back three years ago our north side was without power, lights & phones for 5 weeks. They had crews come in from two states away working on it. Over 400,000 powerless.

Good luck, Joe. Hope you're back up soon.
