The mod powers are just buttons that make us easier to find people's information. it's all stuff we could see before, but now it's easier to get to. Should come in handy for spammers and stuff!

Elizabeth's name is missing! in that list..

Yes... Elizabeth actually asked to be demoted as a mod, last week. It had nothing to do with the site, but I expect she will be posting up a thread for herself in the near future. We're pretty bummed to lose her, though. Our little list is so tiny looking!

So now that you became 4 mods instead of 5, would there be any threads concerning who wants to be a mod.. or something?

Mods do! Mwahaha. We're currently throwing some names around, and trying to figure out if we want to bring in one or two. We're pretty little at the moment.

LP: I know there was a thread going on a few months back when we were talking about getting a mod, and people were tossing out names. It was kind of nice to see, just to have some input into who the general members thought would be a good fit. Of course, we would try to look for someone who was generally liked - but that's just one of several qualifications that we'd look for. Some other factors are: activeness, longevity, level-headedness, self-awareness, ability to be respectful, and a personality that would meld well with our already-existing team. It's a big balance.

Yes, however the mods also have to pick someone who they feel will be a team player - I think it's important to realize how incredibly important that is. If they don't mesh with the group, you're going to find a lot of arguments that will show itself on the main boards eventually. I think it's important for everyone on the mod squad to get along, and if they can't, then at least be able to fake it.

In other words, you're saying that mods must pick a mutual friend?

Not what I said at all. You can get along with people who aren't your friends.

I don't think that's what she means LP. I must agree with Britt though, it's important for the mod team to get along, after all they work together to make the site a better place, but it doesn't mean you have to be buddies with them in order to be elected as one. I don't think they are biased when it comes to selecting at all, it's more so picking someone who is best suited for the job. It's not supposed to be a popularity contest.

Yeah... when we asked Elizabeth to be a mod, I know I hadn't even spoken to her personally much (or at all!) before. But we saw how she comported herself on the boards: she always gave good, thoughtful advice, didn't seem to get into heated arguments, and she had been an active member for a long time. Same with Larry - we didn't all know him well at all!

We also try to represent as many of the members as possible when picking a mod. If there is someone whom I barely know personally, but I've paid close attention to them on the main boards, and they get along with a lot of the members, then they could be a candidate.
