Sweet, I'm liking the updates. I can even see the clubs where the poets are part of.

oh yes, so true, so nice..so sweet..lol

  • sibyllene

If you go to a profile, it will say what club they are in. That's new since a few hours ago!

  • L

    Oh, before.
Whenever I went to see the profile of a poet.
I couldn't see the poetry club in which they were.

  • Britt

Woo hoo, I like that one!

  • sibyllene

I think that one will be handy. Especially for things like keeping track of the clubs that contest winners come from and such...

  • Sunshine

    Yap, nice nice..nice..

  • Britt

I think so, too. It'll also be handy for people who want to invite someone into their club. I recently invited someone in MM forgetting they were in another club. Woops.

    YESSSSSS!!!!!! This is exciting.

Go Janis. I take back all the bitter things I said. Keep it up, big guy!

  • Britt

LOL. Janis is online still too. That's good - Hopefully more stuff is being done.

He's actually looking at the "vital" list of things the mods drafted up. That's a good feeling. Maybe he's not posting anything for us to read, but he's definitely reading [some of] what the mods have to say.
    We're getting somewhere!

  • Britt

Start editing the list and putting the uber important stuff up. Lol. It seems like he's done the 'easy' things though, right? The smaller stuff. Maybe he's planning on doing that first.

Omg all this speculation. We're like kids waitin' on Santa.

  • silvershoes

Yeah, I don't know if he's made hacking undoable yet. Hopefully that's coming soon.

Janis posted in the mod forums.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He has changed a bunch of things and will be changing more. I'm calling for a site wide holiday!

  • Britt

LMFAO. This is a big friggin' day!! Did he say what he'd be updating?

  • sibyllene

Yes, he's working off of the list that we all compiled for him!

Most of the updates so far are ones that we've already seen here, but it sounds like (fingers crossed) he will be sticking around and working on some of the other issues.

Oh! One new thing: He's added a captcha for registration, which should cut down on spammers and bots a huge amount!

  • sibyllene

I feel like I just found out that Santa is real after all.

  • Britt

Oh sweet! That is really helpful (captcha). I'm really excited changes are being made, and even more excited that the site hasn't been taken down yet to make those changes.

""but the authority should listen to its public, shouldn't it?""

Uhh no.. I want the mods to pick someone who is trust worthy and who can actually take on the responsibilities of being a mod. Just because someone may be popular or the public 'wants' someone as a mod isn't always going to mean it's going to happen. There are things the 'public' doesn't consider when wanting someone to be a mod, that the mods HAVE to consider when asking someone to come on.

VERY happy to see some things changed. I was always soo down when I saw the 'Last update 2008" nice for things to be refreshed. Good job Janis keep it up and feel free to stick around for a while ;)

    I'M SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!

Janis is doing some major work for us, guys, and he made a huge post in the mod forum to review all future work to be done.

    Friggin' awesome.

For the record, Janis has addressed 14 out of about 40 issues we compiled. The ones he's addressed or is now doing so are the ones we had assigned highest priority (security, user friendly, accountability). He's asked for feedback on others, which darling Sibs supplied while he was still logged on. We've pointed out the other important issues and he says he expects it all to be in place by end of year. He also asked to point out glitches that developed since the switch changed, so we're using the list to which you have all contributed compiled by Joe. Keep the comments coming.

Regarding new mods. We're all in agreement that Liz stepped down for entirely valid reasons unrelated to the site and when she wants to discuss them I'm sure she will. I respect her to the utmost; it will be difficult to replace her.

We've identified certain potentials, but of course it would be inappropriate for us to name them. On the other hand, please give us your take on the matter. For the sake of privacy, if you want to volunteer your own services, you should probably PM a mod. If you want to suggest someone else, tell us, we're all ears.

Also for the record, I did not know any of the mods at all when they asked me. In fact the only former mods I had any connection to were Brit & Bob. Since I was a relative unknown, you can't say it was a popularity contest. Come on guys, face it, it's my dashing good looks!

Liz was known only to me, and I declare to the world it was not a personal thing for me, since I have always maintained she was the best person for the job.

Whoever accepts the position should be prepared to commit a good amount of effort for a very long time, be passionate about safety and callous to barbs. We have developed a good team process and everyone has grown pretty thick skin. We are all still works in progress and appreciate your calling us out when we slip up.

Got anyone like that in mind?

I am really excited that he is communicating and getting kinks worked out as well as doing new things! I never expected it to be over night, heck we have all waited three years. Lol. Yay! :)

Larry, I have someone in mind:

    'A lonely soul'

^ He's just too good to be true, always omnipresent, friendly with all people and when he talks, he knows how to balance his words, and most of all, he is very helpful.

  • Liquid Grace

I would like to say thank you to the mods for keeping us in the loop as much as you can. It's appreciated.

In regards to Liz, I think we should respect that she chose to step down (not to say anyone isn't respecting that). But it goes to show that when you volunteer your time as a mod there's more then meets the eye. Liz from what I've seen did a good job as a mod. So thank you Liz for you time on the team. I'm sure she was just as great behind the scenes as well.

So thank you to Larry and others for letting us in on what's going on with Janis. I agree with Britt we've waited 3 years I really didn't expect any major changes, at least not to the degree that has been reported or seen. So that's really a huge plus.

If I could make one suggestion (it's not major so obviously I understand if it's not looked at) But when you travel from page to page, (between the front page and forums) the members tool bar does not stay the same. You have less options when you are on the forums and it's a minor pain to go back to the main page to 'submit a poem' 'view contest nominations' 'search poems' 'view favorite poems/authors' etc. Again this is a minor detail but something I figure I'd mention.

  • sibyllene

    Some more updates:

-The "rns" should be gone, and poems should be formatting properly

-the black diamonds and funky characters on submitted poems are being worked on

-and.... drumroll.... clubs and PM's should be safe and private!!

Edit: I agree with your suggestion, Amanda. I'll add it to the future list!

A Happy Thanksgiving present from JANIS....just received this pm from him re: the issues I had pm'd him when I saw him yesterday:

    Janis Krumins ( F D ) at 2011-11-24

    Hi,

Thank you for your notice. Issues 1,2,3 are fixed. I will deal with issue 4 as soon as I can.

    regards,
    Janis

    1) The rn characters (html codes)and loss of formatting when you post or edit a poem.
    2) The inability to look at "more" poems in any members account. The server gives you an error. I have posted a temp solution to it in the recent threads.
3)The difficulty loading new pictures/avatars....though they are sized right and are correct format...the server says they are not JPEG, although they are JPEG.
    4) Special characters like ^a^ which appear when you copy and paste stuff from a word file, in place of " or other letters.

Anyone for a Thank you poem contest/collab? ....perhaps best to come from the pen/s of those who know him the longest.

From my side, many thanks for listening to your loyal site members. Happy Thanksgiving JANIS/Charlie of Charlie's Angels (if you can't figure this one out, go visit Sibyllene's winning poem titled JANIS.

^ Hehehe. Can I be Lucy Liu?

  • A lonely soul

To Yaki: Hmmmmm. Good question. It may take me a few years, to forget this one. Let us see, how long did the original Charlie's angels run........1976-1981. Perhaps that many.

But, I think your brilliant analogy had enough open barrels in it for this reader to reload more ammunitions in to them. But, now all the ammo is gone, I rest my case as the bullets seems to have hit the intended 3rd eye (the one which watches out for the right balance in life), for I, nor anyone here would want to hurt the heart of all the lovely Angels who police the PnQ in their spirit of volunteerism, night and day. They are simply magnificient. I think I may have overlooked Sherry Lynn and Elizabeth in assigning roles. Any suggestions for the recast Yaki, Sibyllene and Jane or anyone who knows them well.

  • A lonely soul

    To Jane:
Re: Can I be Lucy Liu?

Aha! You kept quiet (like a wise girl you are)when a role was assigned, now want a change! OK, Sibyllene took Jaclyn Smith, so maybe ask Yaki, the director who orchestrated the episode. But, if Lucy Liu in the 2003 film, is what you relate to in looks (you know that better, I am just a guy)...you can have it. But, think again carefully...I got you this time Jane...would you want to be really identified as her playing Ling Woo in the television series Ally McBeal (1998-2002), or with her lifestyle as quoted in the magazine Jane (Oct 2003), about her gender confusion. So maybe you want to color your hair and become Farrah Fawcett, instead, as Sibyllene traded that in already.

Wow, I had to look all this up, as it has been a long time since I watched the original TV series, and do not recall ever watching the reboots or the 2003 movie.

That's a whole lot of stuff over one Charlies Angels comment.

Janis tells us he corrected the non-ASCII character issue (the black diamonds of doom). I'm nowhere near my computer. Someone please use their word processor to generate a message with ' " and - in it, then copy & paste it into a message here!

  • sibyllene

Um... It's not letting me post anything. I wonder if Janis' solution was to make it impossible to copy and paste in the forums. I'll try to post a poem.

Edit: When I tried to post my text as a poem, it said it posted, but then when I clicked on the name it told me that my poem had been deleted. I think we've got a bigger problem here!
