I've learned that this life is not just a game
just a thin line between the pleasure and the pain!

    I learned:

All want to be suns, but no one wants to sweat.

Peace is a temporary state of truce between two wars..

Hatred is a form of mutated love.

-I've learned that sometimes things suck, and you have to do things that suck, but they have to be done whether you whine about it or not. I feel like 90% of maturity is just learning to bite the bullet and do what needs to be done.

-I've learned that when you love someone, you share the joys and pains of the other person. You feel them, even if they don't happen to you.

-I've learned that I'm now craving hummous.

^ come here Sib, you'll eat hummous in its original taste... ;) I swear you'd eat your fingers after that. You can ask Nana 'bout that.

Man, if I like regular Minnesota grocery store hummous so much, I can't imagine if I were to get my hands on something more authentic. The best I've had was shipped to Ireland from Greece.

Has anyone ever made their own? I've heard it's not too terribly hard.

  • Britt

I make my own! Roasted pepper garlic was the flavor of today. Mmmm. It's super easy and cheap to make.

I've learned... there are a million different ways people spell hummus/humus/hummous. HOW IS IT SPELLED.

In Arabic, you stress on the 'H' part, so it's like HHHommous. (h sounds like a snake).

And yes, we do our own hommous! Home-made and in Lebanon it's almost the same recipe everywhere.

When I tasted it outside the Arab world, I thought.... WHAT THE HELL?

That's not the real hommous -_-

That's why you should come here and have a dip :p lol

    Wait, so...

    Sssssommous? Whaaa?

Also, give out the recipe! Then I can say "My advice is how to properly make hommous. Start with some chick peas...."

  • Britt

I have learned....well, nothing, but Sib is about to learn a new recipe! Heres the one I use:

    1 can of chickpeas/garbanzo beans (15 oz)
1/3 cup tahini (sesame seed paste.. I don't always use this).
    1/4 cup lemon juice
    2 tablespoons olive oil
    2 garlic cloves, crushed
1/2 cup -3/4 cup roasted red peppers (depends how much ya want. I use 3/4 cup, but my recipe calls for 1/2).

Toss it in a food processor, and serve. I heat mine first, I like it warm. :)

Does it make quite a bit? I might need to make myself a snack for the future.

Yeah, it makes a big bowl full. It lasts a couple days in the fridge (though it never lasts that long in my house, I eat it quickly). I eat it with all my raw veggies, breads, crackers, on my sandwiches. I should probably scale back, something about the fall just makes me crave it.

    Ugh, Britt, that sounds amazing.

"^ how's that possible? (the last line :p?)"

    Practice.

I have learned that no matter how hard you try you can never please everyone, and the best thing to do is to stay true to yourself.

I have also learned that when you need to make a decision it is always best to let your conscience be your guide. This way you can live your life with the least amount of regret.

I have also learned that by focusing on the past I miss out on great blessings and opportunities in my immediate future.

No :p lol, not SSSSSSommous, it's more like... damn it, I don't know how to say it in english :p lol

The ingredients of Britt are right (but we don't use 'measures' all the time), and we don't use pepper much...

And Britt, you don' like tahine much?
Well, it's the essence of taste. I mean it's the base!

  • Decayed

Yes, and forgot... we use yogurt, too :) It gives a brighter look and some extra taste to adjust the tahine. [[but it's not a standard..]]

and when you finish mixing the ingredients mentioned, you put extra olive oil (well, we make the dish sink with oil :p) on top of the dish with some boiled chickpeas, some fresh mint, and you can eat that with hot arabian bread, some reddish and cucumber.

  • Britt

I prefer the thicker paste from the beans, I don't add as much tahini as it says. I don't like it kinda gummy... Idk it's hard to explain lol.

  • Decayed

I hear it from lots of people, it differs, and each one likes to add or remove stuff... Tahine's taste can be so, how they say it, sharp? :p
that's why some yogurt can adjust that.

  • Britt

I never thought of that...I am going to try that. Sharp is a good way to put it. I love recipes :)

Side note, the sky just went from grey to a beautiful orange color within the matter of me typing the upper portion of this post. Beautiful but freaky at the same time lol

Though I'm patient with listening to advice on particular matters, I've learnt not to necessarily take it- it rarely makes a difference. You know inside what you really feel like doing. It might turn out well, it might not. But you have a right to do and learn things in your own little way.

In turn, I rarely give advice to people unless pressed, and even then I don't feel comfortable with it. I only tell related stories at most. I'm aware my advice is usually only a way to reminisce and recycle something personal to someone else for more than it's worth.

It's far more important that my friends support my decisions and are there for me when things go wrong, than them trying to stop the things going wrong.

I've learned not to be disappointed if people are laughing at my dreams, I've also learned that life is a beautiful struggle and with some help, knowledge becomes a tool way more powerful than wealth,
I've also learned that growing up looks way harder than it seems, I've also learned to aprrecaite my own before they lay in their grave, because life is too short to spend it wasting my days, I've also learned that the unpredictable is coming so you better learn to deal with pain, I've also learned that before you learn to live with anyone, you have to learn to live with yourself.

I've also learned not to believe every word at every book I get to read, I've learned to love my mom, because without her, I wouldn't even breathe.

I've learned that if you're not ready to have a child, then keep close brothers, because we don't need more young seeds with weak mothers,
I've learned to live life for my sake, not just to please others,

I've learned to love the earth, because earth is our medicine, and wishes don't always come true, if you decide to follow where your pennies are,
and above all, I've learned to stay true to my self, and be genuine, and generous.

I have learnt (Inspired by Britt, Sibs, LP & Yaki):

    THE HOUMMOUS DIPLOMACY

    Hoummous can save the day
for Britt knows the best recipe
how to mix the right ingredients
stir them, even cook them so well
and serve them to bitter tongues on fire
when hot chillies reign on our brains

    Only if Y..i knew
    what L...P already knows
    the taste of hoummous
    prepared by the Lebanese
    is not all that hot
just a yummy treat, not that spicy
only if she could try the sauce
that could be her next best friend.

I wonder if George Bush knew
    what Britt already knows
There never would have been a war
Alas, Britt was too late to give Bush a taste of her hoummous
If only she had thought of it earlier
countless lives would not have been lost
in a pointless war that only hurt our pride
that of a noble nation, saviour of the human kind
