One more thing that you missed SIB
when you're sending a PM to someone, before, It didn't say the name to whom you're sending the PM to, so if you are sending two pm's at the same time you could get mixed up on who you are sending what to,

if that makes any sence @ all

yet now if your sending a Pm to sum1, it says to who your sending it to, not a major change, but it's nice to see

  • sibyllene

Really? I thought it did that before...

But yes, I may have missed some, so speak up!

  • The Princess

I think it did show who you were pm'ing, too, before. It just wasn't clickable, now it is?

    Is 'bata' duck?

    EDIT:

Good call, Sibs, I removed the appostrophe from the poem, then cut & pasted it, and it showed up, with the other formating intact.

    Experiment:

These characters have been problems in the past, but only when copied from a word processor:
' single apostrophe " quotation mark - hyphen
Some characters were simply not available such as the copyright symbol, paragraph symbol, section symbol and so forth.
The following characters were never a problem:
    , . / < > ? ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ + { } | = [ ] \ : ;
    , . / < > ? ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ + { } | = [ ] \ : ;

The top row was cut & pasted, the bottom row was direct composition on PnQ

I just spent a good 20-30 minutes adding a comment to a poem I nominated earlier, and it would not update, though the acknowledgement that your comment has been posted was there, and the comment # went up appropriately from 2 to 3. I did it twice with same results. Then since I had the comment copied, I mailed it in a pm to the author for safekeeping, and the message said sent, but the entire pm disappeared. This is the second time in 3 months that I have encountered this glitch. Has anyone else had a similar problem ?

  • Larry Chamberlin

Was there an apostrophe in your comment? if so remove it and try again

  • A lonely soul

Yes, there was Larry, only in one place But that could not have been the reason, as it would only mess up one word.
When commenting, I put the original stanza's in quotation marks, and my comments under, like many, and that has never been an issue.
Not only that the comment will not post twice it would not let me post again on that poem at all!
This issue has nothing to do with the server change, as it has occurred before with me....
on this poem (My Best Poem) by Ms. Sunshine:
    http://www.poems-and-quotes.com/misc/poems.php?id=1175904
The comment (posted x 3) does not show up till today, but it showed up for a few minutes on Nana's side, she praised it, and then it disappeared from her poem. It was the last one on her poem, and made the numbers go up from 23 to 26. However, it is visible to me and should be to everyone when I search my praised comments using this link.
    http://www.poems-and-quotes.com/author_comments_praised.html?id=457599
I reported this to the mods then, but I do not think they had a soln.

This time, not only the comment will not post, the comment, when copied as a pm to the author for safekeeping did not reach the author or shows up in my sent message list, after being accepted as sent. Unfortunately, I did not save the comment after I sent it in the pm, so it is disappointingly gone, with my 20-30 mts of time.
I find this one really mysterious! Has anyone encountered this issue before?

  • sibyllene

"Yes, there was Larry, only in one place But that could not have been the reason, as it would only mess up one word."

Not quite. Now, a pasted-in apostrophe will delete the whole text, in my experience. Not sure about the sent messages, though.

  • A lonely soul

So is it a random thing?
As my other comments in the past and after the server change which had apostrophe's did not get deleted. Also, why does the comment show up in the praised comment list here, but not in Ms. Sunshine's poem?

    http://www.poems-and-quotes.com/author_comments_praised.html?id=457599

and why did it show up for a few minutes to her ...just long enough for her to praise it and then disappear. It did not get deleted either when I copied and pasted it to her in a pm. Enigmatic?

  • Britt

It's a glitch that just started happening while Janis was fixing the.copy paste issue. He will fix it, you just have to wait.

  • A lonely soul

I am sure Janis will fix it. But, it did happen to me months ago, as noted above, with Ms. Sunshine's poem. To me, this is a repetition of what happenned months ago...just the lucky guy. This time I do not even have a copy of my comment, I spent quite a bit of time writing it and as generally happens, the poem I nominated yesterday morning, disappeared from the nomination list this morning...got kicked out by poems from senior authors or others with 2 or more nominations. I hope that is fixed too, soon. It is a real discouragement to the underdogs.

  • Britt

I'm sure Janis will fix it.

  • A lonely soul

He can only fix the technical glitches, the poem scoring/judging has to be remedied by a consensus and a self realization by the mods, seniors and the usual judges that something is really very wrong, at least in the eyes of all the others who do not write any comments on some of the winning poems any more, because they have already figured it out. I have thoughts on this but will wait till the next forum on its gets started, as suggested by Sibyllene.

  • sibyllene

In Britt's defense, the technical glitch was the only one you mentioned in your post.

Regarding your other issue, we're just about to switch judges, so maybe now is a good time to bring up any reviews of the process. Not in this thread, though; let's leave this to Janis' site updates and glitches.

  • Larry Chamberlin

There are more than one issue here being rolled together.

For the time being, a single apostrophe in a posting of any sort copied from a word processor will prevent the post from appearing. Janis will be fixing that problem.

If you can specify the poem on which your comment appeared & then disappeared before the server switch, there may be some unique issue that can be addressed.

Nominated poems that 'disappear' are actually pushed onto page two of the nominations which is not visible. Janis is addressing that issue.

Perceived fairness of the weekly contest as it is set up is not a glitch, but a process issue which, as you say, should be addressed in a separate forum.

    Sir Larry:
    1) The comment which disappeared/never appeared was on this poem by a new member yesterday night:
    http://www.poems-and-quotes.com/sad/poems.php?id=1181295

It was composed directly on the site's comment page, not copied from a word processor. Then as it was already copied on my Ctrl C ( temp clipboard) I used Ctrl V to post it directly in a pm to the author, for safekeeping, hit send and got acknowledgement, but when I searched for it in the sent messages, it was not there either! There was no error on my part as I looked at each step as I went to next, remembering what had happened to me earlier a few months ago.
    2) The poem on which it happened a few months ago was Ms. Sunshine's as mentioned above (8 comments above your qn here), but I will repost it again:
    http://www.poems-and-quotes.com/misc/poems.php?id=1175904
The only place I know the comment is now visible is on my praised comments page here:
    http://www.poems-and-quotes.com/author_comments_praised.html?id=457599

    3) When you mention that the nominated poems appear on a 2nd page that is invisible, does it also mean invisible to the judges, or just the members?
    4) I agree with your comment on the "process" issue above, and will wait to suggest until a new dedicated forum is posted again.

Thank you Sir Larry, Sibyllene and Britt in looking in to my concerns with the site errors.

Addendum; My sincere apology to Britt, if their was a little cynicism in my last post. Am I not allowed to have one?...just once in a while....may be I am in need of good mothering or a ......g influence to my broken mannerisms! I guess I come from a place, where in depth analysis is the only way, to stay honest, and not just to please.

"3) When you mention that the nominated poems appear on a 2nd page that is invisible, does it also mean invisible to the judges, or just the members?"

The judges cannot see it either, unfortunately. Neither can the mods. It was on our list of "most important issues," though, and it sounds like Janis will be back to work next workweek. Hopefully it will get fixed! We never had too much of a problem with it a long time ago, because not as many poems were being nominated. Now that we get a lot of participation, there are more poems that are going unseen.
