Should there be a change in how Judges score on the Weekly conte

"My whole issue is still with the tie break situation and how such nominations can affect who ends up winning...if a poem has 10 comments and only one nomination...does that make it any less worthy of a win either? And...I still don't think anyone still really knows which of these poems would take out third place....that's my point."

What did you think of the idea of an additional judge or mod choosing to break the tie? Then it's at least another person's opinion choosing the winner, rather than the site choosing based on number of noms or comments.

I honestly don't prefer the idea of someone breaking the tie... The computer is not subjective at all. It chooses the poem which is more popular. That doesn't suffice?

Popular doesn't always mean better. Look at the "all time favorite" poems... Not many of them have won.

    True^
One of my poems in on the all time favourite and it's total rubbish in my opinion, would never deserve a win.

Ummm./.. it's kind of different here?

When judges choose poems, they're not supposed to be rubbish, only if judges are rubbish... but that won't ever be the case.

    THAT'S AN AMAZING IDEA SIBS.

Maybe this is an idea Sibs, though that is the decision of just one member, wouldn't it be better that in the case of a tie, the existing judges would choose which poem they believe is the winner?
After all the judges assigned the points, shouldn't they have the final say?

But if two poems are in a tie...its obvious there is a disagreement between the judges...

Not necessarily though, If someone gave a poem a 10 and someone else it a 7, the other poem wouldn't necessarily be assigned points by those same judges,
So all the judges should get a chance to add there input, for example someone may not have given that poem a score, seeing as there are so many poems to choose from?

Someone has a point here ^

    OFCOURSE NOT,every judge gets one 4,one 7,and one 10 -_-'

I like Tara Kay's idea, but the problem is getting everyone online and able to cast their last vote for which would be the winner, AND get it back to Nana or a mod to place the vote to make it the winner over the other. I would assume we have judges on different time zones (at least not all on the east coast for example), so we run into the issue of getting the information in on time :/

Good point Britt, I don't think before I speak (Type LOL)
Unless we could change the days of final votes, instead of the sunday at noon, say saturday, and then judges would have until sunday to make the last vote,

Maybe I'm thinkng outside the box, or maybe there is no conclusion to the question,
    Hmmm

I like Sibs idea. The mods or a sub fill in when there is a judge unavailable so they should be qualified to step in in the case of a tie. The judges arent supposed to know who each other are and getting together to discuss what poem should win would cause more hassle in my opinion.

The judges arent supposed to know who each other are.

    ^ like that would happen.

  • Tara Kay

I'm not saying they'd have to discuss, Each judge would PM there descision and back up comments to the contest host and mods,

  • Yakari Gabriel

That's just more work for the poor host...

I was just putting my opinion out there, throwing ideas around,
    Fair point.

It seems like more work for a judge. Maybe it's not that much, but it would still have to all come in, Nana would have to vote or let a mod vote for it, and what if there is a tie or something off with the judges? I see room for more issue.

Ideas are good to throw out - it's just smart to try and jump ahead to find issues or loopholes so we can run it all smoothly as a site :)

I would say my favorite idea so far as well is having a mod sub in and break the tie - I trust their judgment and like Colm said, we have them jump in if a judge can't one weekend for whatever reason.

We need Janis to hide the votes & revise the ordering of poems.

We can institute tie breaking immediately. Each mod or sub judge can rotate Sundays on call in case of a need to cast his or her vote. At worst, if it's missed, the site will select by the current algorithm. No need to change anything currently being done by Nana or the judges.

Question: should the tie breaker write a comment?

We'll send the request to hide votes & not shift the poems by votes to Janis. Personally, I think the best way is to randomly sort the nom's each time you open the thread.

    I think so.

I like the idea of randomly sorting the nominations, that would be a great idea.

Gotta lock this thread, yokels. We can start a new one, though! Thanks for all the discussion.
