Please vote, without comment, whether you believe the requirements for praised comments should be raised in order to achieve senior member status (SMS). Answer "Yes" if you think they should be raised, or "No" if you do not. |

I think the use of praised comments to assert seniority is silly. If this has to be how it is, then I think five praised comments (if they're actually reviewed and approved as worthy) is plenty. If you have the ability to think critically about poetry, then you shouldn't have to prove it an outrageous number of times just to get voting rights. |

No, amount of praised comments should not be a factor at all. |

* Editing this because I still have an unanswered question further up there ^^^^never ask a second question until your first one is answered satisfactorily...I believe. |

"Is there a time frame on when a comment can be praised or...could someone praise a comment from a year ago for example? |

As much as you want a yes or no Larry..I'm sorry but i can't, I agree with Ingrid, praised comments is not the answer, i've seem a lot of great critiques go unpraised yet many less than satisfactory ones that do, I know, i know its down to the mods to decipher them. |

Sorry to keep continuing this without just adding an answer, I agree with Narph, Ingrid and Nicko. |

Praised comments can be an evidence of activeness on the site (not just in clubs), and the senior status should be measured by activeness (number of poems, number of comments, number of praised comments, the last visit date...). And speaking of activeness, can't a button be added in the profile of everyone here which allows us to know if someone is active or not? like.. it measures how many times one has logged in per day, and it shows something like a bar graph... or any statistical graph! |

Narph, but you have to consider that many prefer to stay away from the main forums for whatever reason so they just stay either on their clubs or own their own. While just leaving comments on poems. |

I think the deal with the raising the praised comments is to make it more equal to the other two ways of being a senior member. Writing 100 poems takes a long time, and being a member for a year takes... well... a year. Three praiseworthy comments, however, could be done in a night. This doesn't change the other ways in which you can be a senior member, it just alters this value to make it more in line with the other two. I think counting good critiques is actually a pretty fair way of judging "activity," and it allows people who read a ton but don't write a lot to be involved in the contest. (And since the judges are basically readers and commenters anyway, I figure that works.) |

On another thread we will ask opinions & votes on other issues. Re the standard for praised comments: the mods deny praised comments more than you might expect. It takes more than a couple of lines; we look for insight or productive suggestions. If these standards should be different discuss them on the contest thread along with the other issues raised in here. |

Seems to be another step toward excluding those members not popular on the site... |
Britt

It's not about popularity, it's about activity. Senior member status anywhere else is reserved specifically for... senior members - the active, the ones who have been on for a specific amount of time etc. |

I said 5 to bring the average down, and because I think that's all the comments you need to achieve a senior status. If "No"s were being counted in the total average as 0s, I would say "No" to bring it down further. From Larry's calculations, it doesn't seem like it, as I expected. |
