Janis Updates

I actually like it too. It took a while to get used to seeing it, but I think it's made me more likely to read and comment on poems.

  • Melpomene

I'm enjoying it too, I've come across quite a few poems I wouldn't have found if my favourite authors hadn't of commented on them, their comments made me nosy.

I think it's awesome to see the poem's of your fav authors!

    Easier than looking for them

I like that we can now have a search tool to look for out poems instead of scrolling all the way down to search for it. :)

A message from our lovely site administrator, Janis.

"A couple of things I have done from to-do list:

    33. Have a button that directly links a member to his or her own profile.

I put a link to profile in profile add/edit page.

    37. An ability to sort or search one's own poems, rather than scrolling through them manually.

Done. Also I divided this page so that there are 20 poems in each page."

    and

"I also fixed issue where unapproved club member's club name showed up in member's profile page."

  • L

Sweet! Now everyone can know who approved the praised comments.

  • silvershoes

Yep, now the moderator who approves(d) the praise is listed along with the member who praises(d) the comment.

  • Sylvia

If you use this link to see all of your praised comments, the approvers name does not appear. I deleted the cookies, logged in and out and all the other stuff but to no avail. I did see the approvers name on the individual accounts.

    http://www.poems-and-quotes.com/author_comments_praised.html?id=371678

EDIT: After I deleted the cookies and history in my browser, the poems that I had read were no longer a different color. If I open the poem again, they do change colors.

I didnt know we had a visited poems option..

And how long will it last rather how many poems will it have? If anyone knows

  • Britt

Visited poems option? What do you mean?

  • Larry Chamberlin

Janis put a "visited poems" link on the right menu, below favorite poems. It will provide a list of the last 50 poems you have visited.

If you don't see it, hit "F5" or erase cookies. It only shows poems you've visited since he put in the feature.

  • Britt

Ahhh yeah I see it now! How cool

  • Hellon

Did anyone ask for this feature to be added? I'm not sure how useful it would be...can't think of it being of any use at all right now and...there doesn't seem to be anyway to delete these poems so...the good are mixed in with the not so good at the moment.

Where's my centre feature Janis....I'm sure everyone would have found that more beneficial? Or the ability to delete sent messages...I'd much rather have had one of these features added.

  • silvershoes

I have wondered the same, Hellon, but I think Janis is having fun installing easy features in between the harder stuff.

Can't blame him really. He's doing a lot of work for us lately, all we can do is be thankful and hope the updates/altercations continue.

  • Hellon

Well...I guess he is and..it's his site of course, so he has the right to make any improvements he feels necessary... but this one I don't remember anyone requesting...another...which I can only speculate about because I don't have a favourites list is...the people who have me on their favourites list and I make a comment on another members poem it shows up on their account somewhere...is this true?...spooky if it does...

  • Melpomene

Indeed that is true. If a member has you added to their favourite list and you post a poem or comment it'll appear in the account news under "Latest poems, quotes and comments of your favourite authors."

  • Hellon

Well...I knew a new poem would show up on their list but...a comment? I know people can go read your comments if and when they find them but...having them in their face when they open their account up...that's a little weird to me? Of course it makes it much easier for those who want to praise a comment....they don't even have to read the poem anymore....this is a crap idea Janis....sorry!

LOVE THIS VISITED POEMS BUTTON... x0x0

    ^^^^

Really? How many times will you visit before you get bored and realise you can't delete them?

  • Failing Stoic

We can't control who adds us as a favourite. This update means that we can't control our visibility. I think this could make people a bit more self conscious when commenting for fear of who's going to see it. But that's just me, I could be wrong.

  • Britt

People can always see a comment. I've actually commented on more people that I have never read before before of that new feature. I really like it. It's gotten me to branch out. When a favorite of mine leaves a comment, I assume the poem is worth reading, as I like their style already. :)

  • Failing Stoic

    That's a very good point

  • Lioness

I was hesitant at first but now I love that idea.

It is so good now that you can see when someone has posted a new poem instead of going around searching for it!

Brilliant. Makes it easier for those who may not have a lot of Internet time etc...

  • Sunshine

I agree with lioness! The comments feature made me comment on a bigger number of poems since it was added...
And hellonzzz you shall know that your catch the wind poem was nominated after i saw a comment by one of my favorites! But didnt have the time yet to leave a comment, but supposed to do that tonight! Trust me, its beneficial XD

  • Sunshine

Sorry my phone didnt allow me to edit

wanted to add, regarding the visited poems section, its actually very handy! I usually read a bunch of poems at my uni break, using my phone...it helps me get back to them when I'm home! Hence more comments for people XD less time searching for them!

  • Paul Gondwe

These changes are really great. Exactly what i needed. Especially when i just log in and it shows the comments or works recently done by those on my fav list, i found it very handy.

  • silvershoes

Has there always been an option to view "Best poems" under poem categories?

  • Sylvia

The Best Poems under the categories showed up a week or so ago, I think about the time they showed up on the front page.

  • Larry Chamberlin

    COLLABORATORS!

This is in from Janis from his 'honey-do list':
"14. For collab poems: a. A way to link both author names to the one poem. (like by ___ (link) and ____ (link) at the top of the poem). That way readers can be directed to either profile. "

Janis: "I've implemented this one. I did not want to make submitting poems more confusing that's why I added this option only to <edit poem> page. Co-authors email address (the one s/he used to register) is required to do this."

Janis is going on vacation (well deserved!) and will see what can be done to duplicate "WIN" flags in the event a collab poem takes a weekly prize.

Here's an example of the new feature:

Haha, when you posted the link without, http://www.poems

I wrote that, but without the http://www.

    okay, anyway, thanks :P

  • Decayed

Nice one, but if the link to the poem is there, it would be better, not the link to the profile.

  • BearAnon

New to the site, but it might be nice if we could secure urls for our profiles.

    ie. www.poems-and-quotes.com/yournamehere

    just a thought...

  • silvershoes

I think that's an excellent idea, though probably not high on the list of priorities.

  • BearAnon

    Understandable.

Has Janis fixed the clock? Last week when you looked at posts made on the main boards it was using a 24 hour clock and the pm system an am/pm...now they both look the same...minus the am/pm on the main board clock but....I think I can still figure it out...?

  • Larry Chamberlin

    I don't see a change.
Still 24 hr clock on Forum & am/pm in messages.
