    Number six
    By Lioness (7+4)= 11 points

I thought it seemed really rare to read a poem based on this condition that was creative and not clich© like so many can be. I read this once, twice and three
times because I just couldn't fathom the perfection in this, the flow was absolutely flawless and the wording was strong and flowed well but then it was heartbreaking yet strong and brave and really touched me like nothing before it on this content.(7)

    The Number Six
    by Lioness

I really like this poem. I think the fact that I recognized how good it is before I realized how I can relate to it is what made it even more great. The tone is set wel and it never falters. The metaphors are very straightforward but not in a way that makes them boring. The idea that the mind can be a prison is such a scary thought and sometimes it takes guts to say that. A big head nod goes your way. (4)

    Hands
    by Kiko (10+10)=20

This poem dedicated to Mona Eltahawy and other victims of the Egyptian Security Forces carries a powerful messsage to oppressors the world over and clearly melted my heart. In addition to being assaulted, groped, and knocked to the ground, journalist Elthahawy was blindfolded for 12 hours, beaten, bruised and had broken bones, but her will power made her survive the ordeal and write about it, for the whole world to know. It speaks to the heart and minds in all of us that such brutality still exists in a nation trying hard to rid itself from the shadows of dictatorship with history of human right violations.
The poet has done very well in capturing the brutality with his imaginative and creative pen. The poem carries a much needed warning for all of human kind that still behaves in an unacceptable nomadic way towards women and other helpless victims. It therefore, in my opinion is a deserving winner. (10)

    ---

I'm glad that this poem was brought back again this week. If this doesn't get the number 1 spot it at least deserves to be in the top 3.I see true art here - not only is the poem very well written but it goes to great lengths to describe an issue which needs to be pushed and taken care of.
    Magnificent work. (10)

    Scolding Mothers
    by The Queen

For the sake of my sanity, poems like this should only come across once in lets say every 6 months or other wise my heart won't be able to cope.. To say I'm impressed would be a huge understatement.. this poem is complete and utter class.

I love how it starts with "I dream"..with that it sets a very calming atmosphere in my opinion.. also loved "pillowy pancakes" The Image is very beautiful and it kind of takes you to some magical place very "dreamy" indeed. But then the poems gets really intense, and it kind of snaps you back right into reality with

    "while your slanted eyes cursed
    my unready tongue"

oh, that phrase is wonderfully crafted by the way..

"(What you do know might hurt you
but it's what you didn't know
that will haunt you in the coldest of days.)"

    such wisdom and truth squeezed in one phrase..that phrase will probably become legendary with time..I'm ready to see it in some famous book..beyond clever really. Then all of the sudden the writer brings the protagonist into the act;

"there is something in the air tonight, Mother."

    although with ;

"Was it the exhaustion in your eyes
or the smell of your hennaed hair?
I was too naive to understand,"

she kind of gives it out a bit, it still has an impact to have it confirmed that the poem is about the relationship between a mother and a daughter, and in all levels that subject will always be a sensitive one, no matter from which perspective it is written..And what is more glorious than a heartwarming, heartbreaking,heart-catching write,

    the ending of course

"(I miss you more than I probably should, Mother,
though, I know, I've never been much of a good
    daughter, either.)"

The vulnerability the writer showed here brought tears to my eyes.. how she is humble enough to admit that she was wrong too..

I could ramble on for ages, &ages..metaphors,emotion,flow and lets not even start
on how perfect the punctuation was.. This poem has it all, and even if it doesn't take the front page,I'm sure it probably has already taken the hearts of everyone who read it. (10)

    What a feeling
    By Yaki

    I hate to admit things,
    but this has become
    endless-

    this anger
    contaminated the purity
    that once ran
    through my veins..
^It was this part here that caught my attention, it just flowed flawlessly and spoke with a tone that was so sad and emotional. I read this and thought
"this is gonna be worth a nomination I am certain"

    and those smiles
    I portray,
    and a misshaped
    heart tattoo on
    one side of my hips,
^The imagery here was fantastic, the way the writer described the tattoo as being misshaped as though her heart was too was amazing.

    are a reminder
    of how I tend to
    love others,
    in ways I'll never be
    able to love myself..
^ I could relate to this and it is so true which is why it is my favourite part of the whole poem,

In general I was amazed at the creativity, it seemed a little lengthy at first sight but once I began reading I was hooked and I just loved how the writer could
capture me and make me feel from the beginning until the end.(10)

    A happy place
    By Ronnie

What a delightful poem this is, excellent rhyme and meter makes this poem flow seamlessly,
its bright fresh and adorable, indeed a sprinkle of happiness... loved the imagery, a worthy 10. (10)

    -------------

    Because
    By Melissa

This metaphorical write is crammed full of meaning as if to carry your love upon your sleeve for all to see. "Sucked every pretty word from our imagery, dulled it to prose". These three lines carry such weight and a great example of how best to use metaphors,
with subtlety, impact and strength. Cleverly written. (7)

    A Human Touch
    by Lostlove1

Second week in a row, I find this poem heart melting. It is exquisitely beautiful in the way it depicts the love between a mother and a child, a Disney film story. Built around a storyof kindness and love, bestowed u pon a destitute child (a songbird here) and her rescuer, who adopts her as her own child it lifts your spirits up, miles high. The ardent appeal in this story is to every soul who has ever witnessed the love between a doting mother and her child. It just warms your insides out! The title could have been a "mother's touch" and the songbird could have been a destitute human adopted child, and the story would have been the same. This poem is well deserving of its nomination, and the hard work put in by its
author to bring forth the story of a loving bond between a hapless child (a songbird in this case)
and her adoptive mother. The thoughts projected in this lovely poem are heartwarming, when thinking of those loving moments., for all readers like me and all the animal/bird lovers in this world, who have witnessed selflessness in motherly love and protection. (7)

    In circles
    by The Princess

Another one of those poems with an intro that pulls you in such a clever way.. "I guess".. sparks curiosity immediately..I love how this piece is stuck between..
certainty and doubt.. she takes it off with "I guess",to later go on with "You will"..

    the writer then takes a trip to sugarcoat land as she starts coating all the details with very vivid images such as ;

    "beds of reddening leaves"
    "the sun in my eyes"

also,I give kudos to the writer for managing to incorporate the word "eyes" not one, not two but three times in one stanza yet it doesn't get boring or cliche at all, if anything it just added more emotion...
and then the doubt in certainty again in the last stanza

    "I guess,you'll"
I love how playful the word choice was, specially the champagne part, for some reason champagne directly made me think of a party and having a good time,
which leads me to believe that the writer will only remember this person during the best of times..

I could be wrong, but that's what I gather from it anyways. Also, I had a little hard time pondering on how to link the title with the poem..
but then I went back to the

    "You will, I will,You will ,I will"
and that it will go on forever, that it will just keep happening,
    the two lovers,

(I guess they are lovers anyway)
    will always remember each other
in different ways, time after time.

    such a refreshing little poem
I love all of it. (7)

    Inundated
    by Jenni

I was very impressed by this piece the first time I read it. I can tell that English isn't your first language, but I think that this makes the poem all the more charming. I love the use of the word 'vertiginously'...it sort of smacked me in the head as I read and I thought
"Wow, where did this word com from?" It hooked me because it is so much different from the rest of the vocabulary you used.

    "One breath
    before surfacing;

    perhaps emerge
    and recover. "

I love this. There is no definite answer and you're left wondering what's going to happen next. The fact that you achieved this in only 12 short lines is a huge one up in my books. Beautiful (7)

    We Can
    By Girl

How inspirational is this piece? It couldn't be any more inspirational in my opinion. I really enjoyed the strength and confidence in this piece, and there was a tone of sadness not quite visible until the end, I just can't stop reading this. What an amazing piece of poetry. (4)

    Free Bird Parade
    By Maple Tree

What an emotive write from beginning to end, for me there was no weakness. To decipher a poem is fraught with danger, but in the first stanza it's almost like you clench your teeth to hold back tears? From there the poem opens up and is strong throughout, culminating in a powerful finish, it flows well and is a joy to read. Well done (4)

    Bleeding Crimson Rain
    by Hellon

I could not overlook this poem as it simply stood out, though the author requested that it not be considered for the contest for this week, as it had earned HM's the last week. It did not win last week because of too many competing good poems. But, this week it just
stands out by itself. Hiroshima and Nagasaki are unending stories embedded in our mind. A human made disaster of incredible proportions to remember for generations. What happened then, should and never ever be repeated ever. The calamity of human disaster depicted in this poem, reminds us over again that it was no ordinary event, the blackest of the black days in human history, when entire city populations were wiped out in mere seconds, and a generation of never ending suffering that ensued that should never be forgotten. The poem captures the essence of the misery of the atomic bombing. The last stanza was the most moving for me:

    Seventy thousand paper cranes
    drift o'er Hiroshima skies
    each one carrying a memory
    of an innocent who died....

Kudos to a great Poetess to remind us of something which humankind should never forget.(4)

She doesn't know but I wept too
    by Karla

Ah,this write. I can't put it in just one word, this poems is so..soo..soo vulnerable, and tender, and sad and loving and heart melting..the writer in the first stanza,
    describes it all ;

    "drenched my heart
    with jasmines, guitars,
    Mathematics tests, ex-boyfriends"

I love how jasmines and guitars sound so beautiful, and then mathematics tests and ex boyfriend sound so incredibly painful..which made me think of the word "bittersweet" ..I mean, I guess the writer felt both pain and happiness at the same time.. pain ; because of what awaits perhaps, but happiness to at least have someone there weeping for her and with her.

    "and I can't remember anything
    but love emerging in me
like a huge wave carrying me away
to a kind of cosmic sea of love."

I love the passion in this write, It is absolutely beautiful..the love of a mother is said to be
unconditional and infinite and the writer brings this forth when she says
    "She is my eternity."

also loved how the writer went for
"use-by" date when she could have said something like expiration or so,It sounded more lovely
and way more poetic..again it links with infinity something that will remain forever..

    "She couldn't see
but I wept when she held me"

I had tears in my eyes, writes as loving as this one have shaking effects on me..The wording was smooth, no tripping over complicated metaphors and complicated words.. Just a humble woman explaining all she feels for the child she created.. stunning write, stunning. (4)
