Weekly Contest: Final Changes

You CANNOT go only from favorites because then you can get senior membership just by being popular. (not necessarily good)

you CANNOT go only by poems uploaded. then you will get spammed with shotty poetry.

you CANNOT go by poetry rating because you can just vote 5's for all your friends.

the only option left is to have a high standard of praised comments. resetting it to zero.

if you cant be bothered to read someone else's poetry and comment on the poem, without some sort of hidden agenda to make others win because of who they are and not the art they have made, or strive to reach senior member status for the sole purpose of dictating winners of a contest...

then you don't deserve the title. you hardly seem mature enough to participate. (in my opinion)

have you all become so vain? by washing one hand, you are cutting the other. i will likely loose my senior membership. but that is okay. i do not abuse the title. and those who would, do not deserve it.

    i approve of the reset.

It would be interesting to know how the very first front page evolved? When the site started at first...what were the actual requirements to be a nominator/judge/moderator? History has a way of repeating itself so...I'm really interested to know...who were the first poets to be on the front page...how did they get there ect! I imagine things have changed a great deal from then but...would love to know the progress the site has made over the years?

    Kuro, you're right.

But again, with this annoying issue.... many people here, and not 'unconsciously', do not praise praiseworthy comments because the commenter is not their friend. Meanwhile, when their friend comments, they praise it for them. Where's the justice?

I've seen that, and if you want proof, I'll post it...

I was wondering that too, Hellon. Did the front page contest even exist before the old judging methods? I expect it was something like "highest rated recent poetry," or else nothing at all. It would be interesting if someone knew. I feel like Italian Stallion would be the one to ask.

    And... ummm...

I'm sure that most people here ask themselves this question I recently had in my mind, so excuse me for breaking the Berlin wall again,

When should we assign new moderators?

And I'm curious to know the time each moderator has served,,,, if it's more than 6 years, isn't the time for them to take a break and enjoy the life of the public?

---- and a very personal opinion. Why are moderators only from USA and the "1st" world countries?

    Shouldn't there be equality?
look at China, it's one of the general security council members, and it's not considered a 1st country just yet......

I know Sher has been a mod since... well no, I don't know. But it's been a long time! I'm sure she'd be interested in an eventual retirement.

After her, Jane's been a mod second longest, and I'm a half-year or so after her. I think I became one in November, so it's been... a year and 2 months. Just a baby.

    Then Larry, then Mel!

"---- and a very personal opinion. Why are moderators only from USA and the "1st" world countries?"

This does seem to be true, but it's definitely not a conscious factor. We were glad to get Mel, because it spreads us over timezones a bit, but that's about the only way country of origin has played into it. Several people we've considered for moderating come from all over the world. We'd be chuffed to have people from somewhere NOT U.S. ... or not a female... but I think that would always be a secondary factor after personality, activity, etc.

Oh please don't change moderators again.

Equality doesn't always mean the best is chosen if you are just trying to justify having someone from each country, besides not all mods are from the U.S.

I see the question was answered. Sorry for the interjection.

Haha, yeah, moderators have been dropping like flies this year. We're aiming for a little more longevity this time around! Our little team now seems pretty stable.

    Personality?

cyberspace is not a factor that makes you understand personalities, that's for sure.

I wasn't targeting Mel.. I just thought that a 3rd worlder amongst you 5 would modernize the site.

    but thanks for the answers.

    Sibs and Hellon.......

In the beginning Dainz (Janises assistant) chose all the front page winners according to his own personal taste in poetry or his favorite poets.

    A very democratic process indeed!

Abed, I really find your question about the nationality of the moderators relevant. There are many people from everywhere:India, Netherlands, Egypt and etc.Why not a mod from a different country, somebody with a different background?

I just read one of the most amazing, thoughtful, and insightful critiques, which should be praised by everyone.

Did I mention it was written by Karla?

You've been holding back on us.
    Way to go!!

Isn't that what you all want?

I don't want to be praised by everyone.I want my right back.

An insightful and honest critique is worth its weight in gold. I've only gotten 3 or 4 of them in all the time I've been on this site.

So, yes, it's DEFINITELY what I would like. :)
