Comments & Criticisms:

Going through the boards, I have seen alot of posts lately about people complaining about their critiques. I think it would be really valuable to have an option in the profiles that lets you say if you want critique or not. Some people just cant take it. I think that there should be a "Do you want constructive criticism on your work?" question and you can check yes or no, and then other people will be aware of what you want.

    I agree with you,

    But people are retarded twits,

As you so accurately dub them,

And because they wont do the proactive thing and come to the elf forum themselves and solve their problem I thought I would offer to look out for the people who need a little thicker skin.

I like the comments, votes, and criticisms, I dont see why people have so many problems. If your feedback is not good its because you need to improve, hands down. It makes us better writers and more independent people.

    lol lmao...

but i think it's a good idea so the whiners could stop complaining about their low votes and "rude" comments...they could just get no votes at all. i like the idea...

I think the whiners should get a chance to defend themselves, but apparently they don't read this forum...

Hey! I am sticking up for the whiners!!! Hence:

"And because they wont do the proactive thing and come to the elf forum themselves and solve their problem I thought I would offer to look out for the people who need a little thicker skin."

Thats the only reason I posted this. I am fine with the system, but I am sure that we are making other people cry

    And then cut

And then they write about it

    Then post it

Then we have to read it

And for Gods sake, we dont want another cutting poem

So we could solve our own problem by keeping them from cutting in the first place by being nicer and letting them be whimpy and feel good about it :)

    Well said Friends.

Another idea could be that when new members sign in for the first time, rather than be asked if they want comments, they are politely informed that they will be getting them given that learning is the purpose of this site, and not all of them will be pleasant....and they should be aware of this, and also of the complain function for comments they feel are insulting.

You could also implement this kind of change in a manner so that when it takes effect, everyone gets a message they next time they log in "reminding" them of this fact...

I still think that some people are here to evolve into better writers and some people are here for positive attention that they cant get in their middle schools and high schools from people who are "just like them," although I think a tutorial would be great, I think that all of our problems would be solved and we can know what individuals are looking for by simply having one more yes or no question on the profile:

"Do you want readers to offer criticism?"

I even worry about the word "constructive" being added to that, simply because there would be a dispute about what "constructive" is, for instance many 7th graders wouldnt find JPM's comments constructive, and they could actually be very destructive for their self esteem, they are retarded little twits, but they will grow up.

I think people would be able to be alot happier here if they could just invite people to give criticism or say "no thank you, I cant handle it."

A tutorial would tell them what they can expect here, but considering P&Q is mainly a teen site and a casual poet site, it would do alot of good to seperate the people who WANT to get better form the people who just want a place to vent... thats all.

Good point, but considering the major demographic on this site are kids and casual poets, why not offer an option to cater to them?

    I see your point,

    But...

    Mine still stands.

There is no problem with catering to both sides.

    lmao, too funny.

Well, I guess we cant stop the dicks from doing what they want anyway, but for common courtesys sakemost people would cater to the whimps if they were asked to do so.
