Site Judges: March 2012 [Nominations Only]

I believe this three month term will be up at the end of February. It started in December, right?

That being said, we need 5 more judges!

If you are willing to volunteer your services, please post up in here. Nominate yourself or others. If you are nominated, accept or decline via private message to the joint moderator account (this account). DO NOT POST YOUR ACCEPTANCE OR DENIAL IN THIS THREAD! If you fail to accept the nomination, we will assume you have declined.

You will begin in March and be done at the end of May.

I hate to be a stick-in-the-mud (again), but this goofy nomination process is no longer necessary, now that we have the ability to mass PM.

1st PM: Whoever wants to volunteer to be a judge, please do so by _____ (date) by contacting (so and so). All volunteers must be senior (nominating) members.

2nd PM: Get your votes in for the next set of judges by _______ (date). Everyone gets four votes.

Now, everyone on the site has been notified and has an opportunity to participate, instead of a few people getting to make all the nominations and all the votes. Also, this will prevent the awkward situation of nominating people who don't want to be a judge, or who no longer visit even this site.

I've just received a message like this....WOW...magic!

One of the mods sent out a mass PM directing members to this voting thread. Check your PM box, though, because they're still not showing up under account news.

I think having the nominations public helps keep the process transparent, but if people feel that they don't want to share their nominations, they can PM us and we'll add them anonymously.

It's a pity you can't just answer the mass pm directly...members who do not come onto the main boards may not know where to find the P&Q Account...adding a link may help?

Hellon, I thought about it but people should know who the moderators are whether they visit the discussion forums or not. If they don't, we are located on the left side panel, and in the list is the joint moderator account.

I'm not sure I'm liking this idea of mass pming...how could a member who has only just joined the site possibly know who would make a good judge?

Not meaning to offend Mermaid Woman in any way but....the members she has nominated have all commented on her poems.

Hellon, we can't possibly control who nominates who based on whose poetry they have commented on.

I understand the issue of new members nominating, and not knowing who to nominate, but we have set no restrictions regarding how long someone has to be a member of PnQ to nominate a site judge.

Well....this could end up a huge new can of worms for the mods. No one can possibly know who would make a good judge after one week on this site.

Despite the appearance, it's not a popularity contest.

Even if new members are nominating or voting for judges about whom they have no real experience, the nominations still go through the vetting process in the mod room.

Any concerns for individual candidates need to be shared with one or more mods or through the mod account.

Mermaid Women is my mother, she has been checking up on the site via my account. She knows about a lot of the authors on this list. So what if she's new to having her own account, she has still indirectly been on the site.

There appears to be some unhappiness regarding my voting and I would like to address the unhappiness here. First off the voting was open to all members and I am a member so enough said there. Also how am I supposed to choose judges without knowing how they judge, therefore I chose people who have commented on my pieces based on the value of their comments to me; which is perfectly logical and a reasonable way to choose my five. And lastly, we are all here to learn and enjoy ourselves at the same time, so lets lighten up a bit, eh?

Anyone is free to nominate who they think would be a good judge.

Nominating a candidate is a great part of the process and maybe a new member can open our eyes to a fresh judge that we old timers have over looked.
