GOOYCZ Round Four Poems

Here they are, folks, in all their regal beauty.
May you have as amazing a time reviewing them as the poets had drafting them.

    Round Four Entries

    1 Renascent Doubts (Shakespearean Sonnet)

Born in the desert just like a sandstorm,
pulling every inch of strength to strike.
In the matter of seconds you transform,
from the fiery sands suddenly you spike.

Everything bows to the tone of your rage,
and time neglects its meticulous pace.
It's hard to determine what is your age,
you easily pause life for those you face.

It takes just one visit from you to plant,
the seeds for this long journey to begin.
An eternal torture is what you grant,
the weak souls of those you maturate in.

The furtive movements adopted by you,
conquers any heart without further do.

    ----------------------------------

    2 Dream Interrupted-- Shakespearean Sonnet

When we embraced upon an empty field
The soft tempo of our hearts intertwine
    Engaging a rhythm only revealed
When the moon persuades the stars to align
Many whispers we exchanged on the breeze
Until our eyes only remained speaking
Time went on, our moments began to freeze
While above a sun is slowly sneaking
I feel your tempo escaping my chest
As dawn begins its reign over the sky
Another absence I'm forced to digest
My being can't stand another goodbye
Six o'clock a.m. my alarm clock screams
Tearing away the woman of my dreams

    ---------------------

    3 Death Race

Pedal to the metal then slam it in four
    Adhering rubber to steaming pavement
Smoke filling the air with the engine's roar
    Unforgettable scent, strong and vibrant
Cruising on mountain roads without a care
As rock and roll music blasts through the noise
Relish the feeling of wind blowing hair
At home behind the wheel with unknown poise
Lights flash, sirens blare, a Smokey is there
Dust trail behind, the world becomes a blur
Tampering with the law, powered by fear
Blistering speed, headed for the slammer
Curve off the road to an old mountain trail
A single soul chose death, instead of jail

Smokey - Old American slang for a police officer

    -------------------------------

    4 Unforgiving

    Tonight's dream was the choreography
of every moment I described you as
an acoustic city; your rib cage has
a sailors compass and maps modesty,
your language as unknown as honesty
and fierce like the identity of jazz.
Tonight was the last time I saw you as
    the morning after curiosity

    the familiarity of a scent,
the brush strokes in Monet's garden of France,
a thirty dollar cottage not for rent
housing an avalanche of starving ants
yet home to this unforgiving sonnet...
and the beauty of decay in romance.

5 The Sonnet of the Sun and Shadows
    (Petrarchan Sonnet-Italian Sonnet)

These old feeble eyes weep 'neath raven's call
As thunder's distant edge doth touch the sand,
Born shadowed mist drifts, burning skies and land
As time flows in whispers, only to loll.
And through thorny dreams, cruel sleep shall crawl
Drowsing in the webs, of thy trusty hand.
Meadows blooming daisies shall wake and stand
A rising of breath for all big and small.
Mists melt into rainbows, from far and wide
As mountains of green tip blue painted skies,
While the moon slumbers ,'neath the breast of dawn.
Rays red as roses blush from the moon's bride.
As sprouts on the hilltop all start to rise,
Until the sun's curtains are slowly drawn.

    (Petrarchan Sonnet-Italian Sonnet)
The first 8 lines is called the octave and rhymes:
    a b b a a b b a
The remaining 6 lines is called the sestet and I used -
    c d e c d e

BUT WAIT...THERE'S MORE!!! God...sometimes I love living in the future!!!! While Larry's sleeping I have a cat-hat/mops/ladders/poles..etc etc..to give away but...no one wanted them so...while the judges are out....Larry I really don't want Fred so...l think the hosts (that's me and you Larry) should now get involved and past participants of the contest (not the final 5 ) should be the judges...

Just for fun Larry...I challenge you to write a Rictameter???

    Syllable count 2,4,6,8,10.8,6,4,2

First and last line should be the same.

I'll also write one and post here...this is for fun but...hey...I'm willing to accept your votes haha!!!

A contest between the hosts...has it been done before?????

    Ok..Larry..I'm game for some fun..

    Reality bites (Rictameter)

    Empty
    life regressing
    greedy depression steals
    last grain of reality from
confused mind..lost to the hour-glass effect
    illusion..perhaps, delusion
    merging as one dark thought
    before draining...
    empty...

    The Promo Queen (rictameter)

    Forms here
    a wish I'd known
    how much that my partner
    would give away from my warehouse;
    no poles, steamers or cleaners would be gone;
    my hat would smell of no perfume;
not heard "but wait there's more"
    only brilliant
    forms here.

I think Larry may post the results tomorrow...not sure but...he'd taken his Akubra off and was wearing a top hat...ringmaster syle last I spoke to him..thinks it cool but it's lined with Fred the cat hat so...give him a wide berth haha!!! I just want to thank everyone who participated in this contest and...if you learned one form then...you are a winner in my books...One final thing..

    BUT THERE'S MORE...

Last time I visited The Shed...I managed to Blag (that's scottish for steal) some mini ladders....you know the ones you use in your kitchen?....they have FOUR STEPS...would you believe that??? and he had plenty so.....each one of you are awarded a step ladder to climb right into Chelsey comp....how good is that!!!
