This was actually written in spanish,
I saw it on facebook, and said I'd translate it for my muses, because it was too good to keep to myself,

thought I'd share here too, the more people get the message, the better... I think, anyways.

    ---
a doctor entered the hospital rushing,
after being called urgently to attend a surgery...he tried to answer as fast as he could, changed his clothes and enter the surgery department..

on the way he found himself with the father of the kid who needed the surgery,
the instant the man saw him he started screaming to the doctor

"WHY DID YOU TAKE SO LONG? MY CHILDS LIFE IS IN DANGER, DON'T YOU HAVE A SENSE OF RESPONSABILITY"?

The doctor smiled and said;"I'm sorry,I wasn't in the hospital,I came as fast as I could, now won't you calm down..I'd like to do my job"

"YOU WANT ME TO CALM DOWN?
WHAT IF IT WAS YOUR CHILD IN THAT ROOM,WOULD YOU CALM DOWN? IF YOUR CHILD WAS DYING RIGHT NOW..WHAT WOULD YOU DO!?" said the father very aggravated.

The doctor smiled again, and said
"I'm going to tell you a verse from the bible..."From ashes we come, and to ashes we return...bless the lord" we can't prolong your childs life..but we are going to do everything we can...do all the possible with the grace of god"

"GIving advice is in easy, when we aren't in each other shoes" said the dad..

the surgery took a few hours,
but the kid was okay, the doctor came out smiling "thank god, you're child was saved"

and without waiting for the response of the father, the doctor looks at the clock
and rushes out and said "if you have any questions ask the nurse"

"why is he so arrogant?" says the father to the nurse, couldn't he wait a few minutes for me to ask him about my child?"

..the nurse looked at him with tears in her eyes and said..

"Yesterday, the doctor's son passed away In an accident, when we called him to come in he was at the cementery burrying his child..
And now he is done saving your child's life,
he is going back to finish burrying his."

    ----

Moral of the story : never judge anyone, because you don't know their life..
you don't know what they are going through.
    be kind, always

This was truly a amazing story that I find really touching. It is so true that we can't judge someone else when we just met them. So many different things could be going on in that person's life. Anyway, thank you for sharing!

Beautiful story Yaki. Indeed, "others & "service" for the needy comes before "me, I, and my family", traditionally in this Profession, which unlike many others (servicemen in the military, police & firemen, etc) is fast being corrupted, by the infiltration of businessmen and business-minded people.

The Hippocratic oath did not address this directly, but it was an unwritten dictum for many who went in this Profession, that service to others comes before your own needs.

A portion of the oath which is close to this thought:

"I will apply dietetic measures for the benefit of the sick according to my ability and judgment; I will keep them from harm and injustice." It should also have included here "I will place the need of the sick and the needy before mine."

PS: Larry, I think the CAPS, are the missing "volume" button that was needed here to capture the loudness and anger in the parents voice, so in my opinion they were probably used very appropriately, here.

It is indeed a transformed new Yaki!
So I take it you have yourself adopted your moral ^ after reading the story. YAY! But, I think there is another thread in here somewhere that still needs your and some other folks blessings, ......

"To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant, to enact gratitude is generous and noble, but to live gratitude is to touch Heaven.
    Johannes A. Gaertner ..."
