Members: Can you all join me in a surprise support for Madison's (Adreamer) day of silence (today) for Peace and Love. Many of you know her. She is our 13 year old PnQ Poetic wizardess. I like to call her Ms. Prolific Poetess.

Please show you support to her in her thread link below, perhaps posting some poems, quotes or advice, perhaps as anonymous, but with your PnQ name.

    {EDIT: Just realized that perhaps this link does not need to be on another public website, to maintain privacy, hence removed. But, PnQ members,can post any words of encouragement to her pledge right here in this blog, when she finally reads it.}

She has pledged a vow of silence just for today, so please hurry.

Thank you Meena. The story behind this vow of silence is something only she can reveal, I cannot. I will show my whole hearted support. You may recall she is one of those unique PnQ members who goes out on a limb to praise people's poems and more, selflessly and often sits out in the comment section of discussions handing out free comments.

She is practicing Mauna vrat (vow of silence), generally considered a religious practice in various religions, originated in Hinduism and then became the center stage of meditation practice in many others...Jainism, Buddhism, Vestal virgins (ancient Roman religion). I believe it is also practiced in certain forms of Christianity. It's main purpose is to cleanse one's thoughts by self-sacrifice of something desirous or exercising intentional self-control by giving up something which one cherishes...for a certain period of time. It is truly an extended form of meditation. The word muni (Indian for Sage) traces its origin to this practice. So a person who can exercise self-control in any form despite all the temptations in this world is on the path of self-enlightment, something Buddha, Mahavir and many others followed and found.
So, in my opinion our young friend here has found a way at this tender age to seek wisdom from maun.
Blessings to her and her cause. May she find Peace and Truth in her quest for enlightment by maun.

Mahatma Gandhi practiced this mauna, one day a week. No wonder, he did not have to raise his voice or hand to get attention.

Is this like a version of lent? We sacrifice something for the 40 days leading up to Easter Sunday.

Sorry, I just noticed your queries.

Emily: I have removed the direct link for her blog for privacy reasons.

Britt: Yes, you can say it is kind of the same concept as Lent, but is specifically a"vow of silence", as against other self sacrificies in Lent or similar traditions. Ascetics in various religions do this more rigorously and for a prolonged time. It can be considered an exercise in "self control" as described above.

But, I would repost this from her blog so you have an idea of her purpose:
    ---------------------
    Dear Students, Friends, and Family,

On Monday March 19, 2012, ..... I would be delighted to see some of you joining me. I will take a vow of silence for the day in honor of inner peace. I will write love sayings and mantras on my skin. And I will be adding an extra touch as a surprise. If you support this, please paste it as your own status and please join me.
    -------------------------------------------
So, to honor her pledge, if anyone wishes to put any words as posts here, even this late, I am sure it would give her encouragement.
    ------------------------------------
Here are a few quotes that I posted in her blog:

"Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without." Buddha

"We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves. " Buddha

"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." Jimi Hendrix

"Let us forgive each other - only then will we live in peace" Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy

    ------------------------------------------------------
This one was from Meena Krish:

As human beings we all want to be happy and free from misery. We have learned that the key to happiness is inner peace. The greatest obstacles to inner peace are disturbing emotions such as anger, attachment, fear and suspicion, while love and compassion and a sense of universal responsibility are the sources of peace and happiness. - Dalai Lama
    --------------------------------------
This one was from an Anonymous PnQ member:

Peace is the never ending (what should I call it? thing)
that everyone seeks. A few are able to find it but I think peace is found in our souls. Peace is achieve by doing the right things because if we do the right things then we will have peace in our minds and thus we can think clearly and take the best decisions.
    -------------------------------------

So if you like to post Quotes, Peace/religious poems or prose or anything that will support her self-sacrifice day of "maun", I am sure she will love your thoughts, original or requoted, right here.

First of all sry for the delay:)

Everyone in this life seeks for 3 things happiness, love, and peace. But many cant find these, to take ur step towards happiness u need to love, and after loving you'll forgive, that willl lead to peace.

To know that there are people who supports you, in my opinion, this is encourging, and inspiring. As I look around here in P&Q I can see a lot of people who says that you're a great person, and they always have your back and support you( for example A Lonely Soul). Let me tell you, you are lucky, not everyone is like you. Its because you have a huge loving heart:)
