Plagiarism

So idk why this didn't hit the boards before, and the mods are already taking action to handle it.

But many of our members have become victims of plagiarism see the poems that have been jacked here (until the account is finally banned)

There are tons of poems that have been plagiarized and many from his own club. Hopefully he will remove the plagiarized poems from his blog before he gets suspended from here.

My Husband James Pike sent a message to google who owns the blog site reporting all the poem links, so hopefully they will take action.

I have now commented under this "gooftastic"'s one and only poem, about 50 (at least) links to poems that he stole from here. I gave proper credit, where it should be, to the original authors.

Larry started it, and Maple Tree & I continued it. LOL

This response accomplishes more. First, he isn't publishing plagiarized poem ON this site, but FROM the site. Just suspending him doesn't keep him from stealing more.
His access to the site has been crippled, allowing all a chance to learn what of theirs he has taken and add comments to his poem accordingly. If enough of us protest to the other site owner they will take action. Finally, someone this brazen should be publicly upbraided.

This guy really went over the top and beyond... as Jim and I were reading each stolen poem from here..trying to find the correct author of the poem, we found one poem that he even had the audacity to dedicate to a girl, and state: "This is for you".... ugh

Jim did just that....but the comment has to be approved by Yunes/Gooftastic himself... so those comments on his blog will not be made public as they are here...

Yes, by all means copy each accusation to his blog and to the owner of each blog site he has. Also, Andrea, could you or James copy all the comments in one to this thread as a single post, please. While public castigation is important, we will be suspending him soon & don't let that work go to waste.

Plagiarism should not be reported in the forum for the purpose that it brings an accused, presumed innocent, to public display while at the same time does not provide the mechanism of dealing with it. A "complaint" from the plagiarized poem allows the moderators to penalize the poet and delete the poem.

In this case, the poems are from this site, not on it, and public outcry is the only means we have to correct the problem: by sending enough outraged people to complain to Google and anywhere else he has posted members' poems.

What scares me a little bit is that one of my poems was supposedly published on his site earlier than on mine, which is impossible actually since I did not upload it anywhere but here..

Edit: Did not only happen with one of my poems, but others too.

Jenni- I think and I'm not sure but on Blogs I believe you can edit the date.... I'll have to dig deeper on that and let you know...

I found alot of my poems posted under other peoples name all over the net. I guess its really hard to stop that, but atleast the date of submission is a prove that the poem is yours, even though its not an enough proof.

Ohh yes Hellon, that really raises alot of question on who the poem belongs to, it sucks.

Hellon, the thing is that it's not only a day difference but 10 actually, which basicially ruins the submission daate as proof.

I wrote my poem "For everything you give me" for my boyfriend and published it here on Valentines day as I thought it'd be fitting, yet it's dated on his site on the 4th of february.

And I saw that it is the case with poems by other people too, which literally takes that "proof" we'd have.

Oooooohh God, 10 days!!
That ruins everything.

But what about the dates on word doc.... For example: all of my poems are written first in my word document file...with the date and time written... and then i choose to post the poem on here a few hours to a few days later... If you have those date and times... that will be helpful....

Yeah I know, but it was last changed on February 12th so that does not really help me either and I do not keep track on the original date I wrote my poems on.

:-( Jenni- I'm hoping that that the numerous emails to google will help ban this guy...he stole so many poems as you can see.... He even went into some poems and changed (he/she) where needed....
My point is... this guy clearly is exposed as a guilty plagiarist.... and I'm hopeful... something will be done.
Not only did he steal Jim and I's poems, he stole a major majority of poems from here... My heart goes out to all of who have been affected by this guy...

Do not worry about me Andrea, I am sure all of us appreciate the effort that has been made so far and by so many complaints, google might close his account instead of remove all the poems that were reported. :)

Plagiarism= Taking credit for the blood someone else had to shed.

Those people piss me off so bad. I dont see my name or poems on that list and I am glad..I used to chase people all over the internet who posted my poems and got into a downright fued with someone on deviant(?) art for taking mine. You may want to check that place as well for stolen poems.

I gave up chasing the plagiarists after that..

Jenni, was the poem he stole from you written for a contest? I saw others he posted that were written, and in that case, it would've been posted in a thread much earlier than you post it to your account due to judging and waiting for the round to be over.

Hmmm I do like that idea... Although, my wish would be to have his IP address banned by google... You think they can do that?

I wonder where his poem that he has posted on his account came from? That could open up a new set of lists for someone else.

Does "suspending" an account, as against "disabling" remove their postings and profile?

If it does, perhaps best not to remove his account completely, as it will make it difficult for other sites to compare notes about his deeds, particularly with him changing dates from stolen poems on his blog postings, etc. Leaving his account, his name, links to his blogsite and his facebook account visible to everyone forever, will make him the "classic posterchild" for the world to see. He would be socially shunned, and this will perhaps dissuade current and future plagiarists from carrying out this felony act. I would say to Larry, perhaps add the link of this blog and/or his account to your Plagiarism article as a citation of Plagiarism. Make him your posterchild, and to all those people who post their poems on facebook accounts, to reference him in as many places as possible, so he and many others like him will be too embarassed to show their face to the world. Their friends, family, neighbors, classmates, workmates and all who know him will be pointing fingers at him for his lifetime. That is bigger punishment than simply deleting his account, I think.

I whole heartily agree with the above statement. I, for one, am a web host as well, and this can be accomplished by NOT deleting his account, but going into the domain's cPanel and banning his IP. This allows his account to still be there, but he will never be able to even view this site and it's content. He would simply get a blank page that says FORBIDDEN across it. This is actually, very easy to do. But I fear, only one person has access to the cPanel here, and that it Janis.

Love the anger that flows from within when one sees criminals and thieves. Just some T - hormones that when channelled to the right portion of the brain will make some great artists, playwrights, perhaps politicians and educationists.
I have to commend Larry, Maple Tree and James in exposing him so well. Hopefully, the blog site administrators will be as astute and make an example of him too.

I have to agree with the ip ban. If you do that he can no longer view any poem we've written. Granted he will still have all our poems he copied and pasted but he will no longer have access to the others.
