New Janis Updates

Janis left us a post saying that there are some new changes! You should now be able to:

1. Reply to a comment left on your own poem.

2. Submit poems using center alignment.

3. Search function for PM's

4. Link on homepage to weekly winners

5. Pms in sender's "correspondence" do not get deleted when the recipient deletes them.

6. Everyone should now be able to see the list of nominated poems, even if they are not senior members.

7. Link on right for all comments made

8. If author uses reply link that is located under comment, his/her reply will show up just after that comment.

9. Now you can see up to 200 latest activities of your favorites.

That is interesting!

Isn't replying to a comment essentially the same as just commenting on your poem? I just did a "test" and it seemed the same.

Didn't it show up like just another comment? Weird.. I wonder if the person you hit "reply" on gets a message/notification?

Janis:
I made it so that collab poems do show up in collaborator's profile as well as in his/her full poem list. If poem is a contest winner, "WIN" symbol will appear accordingly.

It would be somewhat complicated to make it possible to add unlimited number of collaborators. For time being lets leave it at one collaborator only. If there will be strong demand for multiple collaborator option, I'll think how to implement it.

I do not know if this was possible before, but I just realized you're also able to make the window bigger where you type things into. May it be the comment box, PMs or even posts.

I think that one was possible before. At least for some things.

The "reply" seems to be a dud, as all it does it end up at the bottom like a normal comment. Maybe it's a work in progress?

It may cut down on mistakes in praises and complaints

Making the window larger was possible before, I've been on here for years though and I only discovered it a few months back!

As for the reply system, I don't think it's cutting down many mistakes in praises and complaints. We may need to speak to Janis about tweaking it a bit.

Maybe its been discussed but what do mods and members think about setting up a PnQ twitter account? As a way to share poetry links or blogs, possibly connect/communicate with other poetry organisations, etc?

Haha! I am not on Twitter, but I suppose it's a possibility. Any other mods more social-media savvy?

The "reply" on comments as it is now is worthless.

The way it works on other sites is that the reply is directly under the comment and is indented, so it is obvious that it is a reply to a comment and not a new comment. If another comment is made in that same thread, it gets further indented, and so on.

Also (in an ideal world), all comments would have a notification feature, which would appear in either "Account News" or somewhere else on the links bar.

I'm on Twitter but don't see PnQ being a success... people follow their friends and celebrities on Twitter, not their favorite websites.
Don't want to shoot you down though, so I'm open.

Well there's also a good few poetry-related and writing-related organisations. It might allow PnQ to have a sort of news feed too, post links to weekly winners, classic PnQ poems, articles, etc. and retweet other poems/articles of interest. I agree it mightn't work but then again it might? I don't know how many people are on twitter or what sort of response it would get.

Another question under the heading of Janis updates, any luck with getting the newsletter up and running again?

I'm on twitter as well, and I think that PnQ has potential to do well there. It'd be worth a shot, and get the site more exposure.

Would either of you like to set it up? I can help/add my name to it if you feel like you need a mod.

I'd be glad to set it up, and I think it'd be good to have at least one mod on there. Or I can just give all of you mods the password and username for it.

Colm has taken the horse by the reins and set everything up. Confirmation email has been sent to the pnqmods@gmail.com, and I'm going to approve it now. All mods will have access to the Twitter account (and Colm).

I just noticed that today too.

We can now search for specific private messages by entering keywords :)

Oh, I had originally made the top post when only changes #'s 1 and 2 existed. When Janis made more changes, I added numbers 3 through 9 into the list with an edit.

ALERT FOR MODS/JANIS:

The reply feature under messages is totally disabled (at least for me)...can compose but cannot send the reply to anyone's pm's (tried various times in the last 36 hrs), since the latest Janis update on 12-11-12. However, I seem to be able to use the pm link under the profile of the person without an issue. Is anyone else having this problem? Mods, please alert Janis, before people think that I am being rude by not answering to their pm's!

I've had no problem replying to PM's the past few days. That's odd

I had that problem before but maybe it's cause we are using a diffent system like i am using Windows 7 i think and it lets me see and email the PMs although in another computer i had that problem so it sucks check what WIndows you have or go to google Chrome
