For your eyes only by Yaki

Wow. This has to be one of the best poems I have read in a while due to its raw emotion. It was so real and stripped of any fronts that I felt as if I personally knew the person having these thoughts. I couldn't help but sympathize with this mother and offer her a hand but her fighter gives her all the love and life she needs. I loved how you described normality and that there is no fight in it. Going through hardships and having things not go your way is what makes you human. Such beauty in your words! Still cannot get over it. The ending...seriously had me close to tears. Just a wonderful way of ending this masterpiece. I honestly have no more words because you have left me speechless. Bravo!

    Reflection by Senyru

Just a brilliant poem of how time flies by us! I think we all have that one moment, where we either look in a mirror and ponder about our reflection to see how much we have changed or look at our life and reflect on the chances we could have taken. We become so busy with our hectic lives that we rarely have the time to appreciate the moment until it us gone. I love how you used each sense in your poem and I felt as if I was sitting by him pondering about my reflection as well. The imagery you painted was flawless and the poem as a whole flowed so smoothly. Your descriptions seemed so natural without anything seeming forced or out of place. Beautifully done! (7)

    ---

I really do love poems that are so descriptive that you can actually visualize the poem in your head- This piece was mouthwatering beautiful and it left me sitting here feeling so many emotions. First of all, I want to say that the title had me visualizing a pond...so serene-

As I then continue on to read, the First part of the stanzas have me feeling the beauty of nature and upon the first few stanzas I actually felt like this was more of a nature piece, and then I was twisted to learn of an elderly man... and him seeing his reflection... passing time away and trying to come to terms with father time-

    The ending line was breathtaking-

"Oh my, how time goes by."

I found this poem to be sad, heart gripping, gorgeous and just elegant!!! Powerful and touching poem!!!! well done Senyru (7)

    Sun Tree
    by Ms SunShine

I truly feel drawn to this metaphoric piece of art- I call it art, because its visionary word display is so captivating that I can picture every word within this poem- Beautiful and heart breaking poem.

The title: What a bright and elegant title, it displays the strength of a woman, struggling to get over heartbreak along with nature tones, and describes the poem in great depth, just in the title alone...beautiful!

First stanza: Starting this poem off with a powerful force, the author grabs me from the start- Thanking the one who hurt her, with grace. Starting the metaphor off with a bang! When flowers are beautiful in a garden,(such as love) it's all good at the beginning, and when sadness erupts, in the end they die- Perfect start to this piece.

Second Stanza: Even dead flowers have a sent and comparing the person who hurt the woman is just a creative and explosive, descriptive stanza... awesome word display!

    "Alas, easy to
    disregard!" <-------- I love this ....

A great explanation with a painful tone... when the heart is broken, it truly is a great thing to be able to let go or try to... to be able to overcome the hurt and pain...a lot is said within just four words!!

Third stanza: I love this stanza the most and to me it's a powerful beginning to the heart of the poem... Sun trees last all four seasons... unlike flowers that eventually die... stating to the won who has broken her heart... you will always remember me....what a powerful stanza with such strength!

    "when on earth, light crawls
    at the edges of your
    cold bed." <--- WOW.....

these twelve words tell the reader

"I will not be forgotten, the coldness of your heart will always know my warmth" that is how I felt and I love this part of the poem.... I can't express enough the explosive emotions that are display within these words....

Fourth stanza: I love the power to overcome pain and heartbreak... this stanza conveys that and so much more....love this stanza!!

Ending stanza: Even in winter, she still will shine....sighs.... I'm telling you... this ending makes your heart feel...and I want to applaud the writer!! Just an explosive ending, full of strength and positive energy. Sun trees are positive and strong...

Final comment: This poem deserves to be highlighted! The metaphoric tones throughout were priceless...the nature feel is so positive and again I could vision that precious sun tree sitting outside the "dead flowers" window! I can't express enough how much this poem touches me and very well written....such a talented author and it deserves to grace the front page... Well done Ms. SunShine

Penning Her Freedom by HOLLY ARMER

What I loved most about this poem was the title! So creative! I loved how you drew the scene right from the beginning so the reader doesn't have to wait too long to figure out the setting. I like to become one with the poem therefore setting the scene in the beginning, as a writer, is ideal. I loved how you described the stars as blossoming. That was so unique and fit so perfectly with your poem. You could have easily said twinkled but I am so glad you didn't! I love how the title was worked into your poem towards the end because it just tied everything in together nicely. Sometimes poetry is the only way we truly do feel free because we are tied down by so many constraints in our lives. Nicely written here!

    Tamed
    by Lonely Rider

This, in contrast, was blissfully short, and managed to say so much in so few words. Every word was used efficiently and words such as 'sandpaper' and 'miscarriage' carry quite a weight in meaning and significance. Though not stated explicitly with things such as 'I feel..' 'my heart..' 'depths of my soul..' etc etc the reader gets a clear and more powerful picture of the unbalanced or harmful relationship. The poem is much better for not elaborating with such subjective or clich© phrases, and the poem is quite original for it. The phrase 'I oblige' say so much: that you are submitting and/or going along with his plans, even though his embrace is one of rough 'sandpaper' and almost an imprisoning one. Maybe you are deeply in love with him and you think your imperfect life with him is better than life without him, maybe you feel afraid to try and escape or fear for your safety. This poem with many possible metaphors is open to interpretation and gets the reader thinking. Well worked and one of the most thought-provoking and profound pieces of the week.'

    Believing in greater (Double Tetractys)
    by Chelsey

I have to say, I really love this form, and it's a fun one to write, the hard part is getting it to flow...and the author did just that and more.
The message is so rounded spiritually that it can touch us all, no matter what path of spirituality you follow and that is another reason why this poem touched me so...

The title is beautiful... "Believing in greater" It's powerful and is such a perfect title for this formed poem. Usually I break down poems stanza by stanza or line by line, but to be honest this poem as a whole says so much all together...

Believe and rejoicing in the beauty of a higher power... I really needed to highlight this piece, because the message is inspirational, the writing is elegant and the form is spot on-
    Well Done Chelsey

I'm Fretful In The Garden by Skycarp

I simply adored this verse, how original to give a voice to a dying rose! A lengthy poem, that captivates the readers' attention from start to finish. The part where he catches a glimpse of himself in the mirror is what lifts this work far above average, how cleverly written. The end was hilarious, although I suppose it was not meant that way. The pompous rose laying there, cast aside like a piece of garbage! I a way this could be read also as an analogy about those who feel they are indispensable, because we are not..or are we? Magnificent work!

    Im fretful in the garden:

'This is one of the most enjoyable longer poems I have read in a long while. Have to say I was interested throughout and you managed to keep my interest. Two other important things you managed to do is personify the rose excellently so that the reader could feel it's emotions in human terms and relate to it possibly. Secondly, I thought for the most part the rhyme scheme was good and it flowed well, especially for a long poem. I was kind of expecting and fearing more forced rhymes as I read along but they didn't really come, except in one or two occasions I felt (e.g. 'savouring the long kiss we share was a little forced). But overall it was well put-together and flowed well.

The poem reminded me of a few of Oscar Wilde's short stories, in that they use personification so well and are ultimately quite sad and deeper than one might think. It also has traces of 'Picture of Dorian Gray' where the reflection of the rose tells the true effects of his ageing, something he himself did not notice. This poem, while on the face of it may seem silly (basically a flower saying 'pick me') actually deals quite well (and not too deliberately) with themes such as love, death/ageing, vanity, jealously and self-evaluation. You make the reader genuinely feel for the flower, something that is easier said than done. It was different to most other poems this week and stuck in my mind more than most of the others too. Well done.' (10)

Sweetheart, You are Remembered [Terza Rima] by The Poetess 7 points

Another beautiful verse from Noura's pen. What makes her work stand out is that her fragility and feminine nature oozes from each syllable. This is a dedication to the victims of 9/11 and a beautiful one at that. Reading her words, you get a sense of the madness, of how far we have wandered from paradise. Let our children lead the way, oh yes. Well done, a very moving statement.

    When Love Dies by Lostlove1

No cheesy love poem by this writer. The tone is bitter and sincere and it was refreshing to find this amongst the traditional love poems. The rhyming is unforced and the poem has verve, love the pace. Underneath the poem the writer states she wrote it in a very short time, I think she should do that more often. Well done, truth has been spoken here!.

    Circle of emotions
    by Lioness

I felt it was difficult to pick a poem to award the four points to but this just gets the nod due in part to my positive first impression when reading it initially. It gives a good picture of the relationship and doesn't over-elaborate. The breaking-point description was effective and I thought the poem ended well and linked together at the end. The language was decent throughout and had an appeal. There is enough room for little details such as 'caressed my back while I slept.' - This image gives a much better picture of the relationship than saying something direct like 'he loved me.' You showed rather than simply told on a few occasions in the poem which I liked. At times I wondered were the short lines necessary, or would the first two stanzas in particular flow better with longer sentences. Also the hyphen after and ('and -') only disrupts the flow the way I was reading it, so be careful about structure and punctuation. All in all not as stand out as an obvious winner but a good read that was quite accomplished, keep it up'
