PnQ has entered the Twitter era! (As Sibs put it, internet 2.0). Yes, the twitter account is up and running. You can find it by searching twitter 'Poems and Quotes,' or '@PnQ12'. Here is the link to the page:

    https://twitter.com/#!/PnQ12

If you are on twitter, please go ahead and follow. If you are not on twitter you can still view the page by following the link above. I think it has the potential to be a good addition to PnQ and a useful resource for the members.

The first few posts, or 'tweets' as they are colloquially known, should prove a sample of what the account will be used for:

    - Quotes of the day. Both famous quotes and some quotes posted here by site members.

    - Weekly announcement of our latest contest winners.

    - Videos. Poetry-related videos will also be shared; readings, movie-clips, etc.

    - Links. Links will be posted to information about different poets, past and present, and about all things poetry.

    - Retweets. For the twitter-illiterate among us, retweets are like copy and pastes of other posts. In this case, posts and links tweeted by other poetry organisations about competitions, blogs, etc. will be shared on the PnQ page for all to explore.

If you have any ideas, let me know and feel free to post here. If you are on twitter, feel free to send links, quotes, etc. to the account, they will be appreciated

Nice to see some PnQ'ers following the twitter account, lets get more numbers following to continue to get it off the ground :)

I am planning on having a 'PnQ POET OF THE WEEK,' featured on the twitter account. Links to this poets profile and to one of their poems each day will be featured on the twitter account. Also I'd like to do an 'interview' with the poet of the week with questions related to poetry that would be linked to the twitter feed also. Hopefully this will widen the exposure of some of the talent we have on the site! If you want to volunteer to be a PnQ poet of the week on twitter, post here or pm me anytime. I wont feature anybody who doesn't give their permission first. I hope to get it up and running within a few weeks and depending on numbers.

Also, I would like to get some QUOTES OF THE DAY from the pen of our own members. So if you would like some of your quotes to be featured as a 'Quote of the Day,' PM me. Again I wont post quotes without the consent of author. Don't hesitate to post here or PM me.

Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions let me know. And make sure to check the account for all the latest #poetry news!

You could choose your poets then ask permission. I think it would give you a wider range from which to select.

Colm you're doing a great job! Twitter is the best way to reach a wide audience with all of our talented poets!

Larry, good idea, I had planned to do that also. It'll depend on the the numbers of people signing up for it too. I would like to have variety rather than just people who come onto the forums, are in clubs etc. so we will see what the response is like and go from there.

I don't use twitter. But, it seems that the content posted is very limited, and a collection of scatterbrain posts, thoughts (or quotes). Not a pleasure to read like a poem, or anything organized in a prose. So what is the purpose that it is serving? A little confused....please explain.

It seems that it is also fast becoming a hotbed for people who are posting links of their own websites...reverse marketing to you! e.g.

Abed, those are sites that have been posted by Colm/PnQ. It's just linking to other poetry contests and stuff. When you "retweet" you are passing on what another Tweeter(?) posted, if that makes sense.

"But, it seems that the content posted is very limited, and a collection of scatterbrain posts, thoughts (or quotes)."

Haha, I think that's just what Twitter is. You can only type something like 140 letters or numbers in a post. I'm not on Twitter either, so I don't know what it's normally like, but short posts and quotes are consistent with what I've seen.

    Sibs,
I think you were addressing David, not Abed?

  • A lonely soul

No worries! If someone calls me Abed, I will proudly put on his hat as well.

After all what is in a name?
By any other name, it would sound as sweet or sour (just a matter of perception!)

    {Modified with a little humor from Romeo and Juliet (II, ii, 1-2)}

But thank you for expanding on my opinion on Twitter......it is indeed for smart "twitter" brains (= young brains on the fly=multitaskers), not for me (I will fail miserably here, being a unitasker).

Whoopsie, don't know how that happened. Do you guys have similar photos right now?

Anyway. Twitter. Hooray. It's all about networking, I expect.

Ha ha! Did you really mean the picture of my kid (when he was 5, now 14), looks similar to Abed!

I will take that as a compliment for him, I hope one day he grows up to be as talented as Abed. He loves math and vocal music for now, but also loves to perform (dance and acting).

Maybe it's because you're both playing instruments? Haha... No idea. I mess up Noura/Nana constantly, I think, and I called Sherry "Luanne" a few months ago. That one was embarrassing, especially considering that I talk to Sher a few times a week and have hardly ever talked with Lu in the past few years... : )

There are posts missing from that thread for whatever reason and more threads were made about a Facebook page for PnQ after the one you have cited. We really did get a page up and running, but it was being managed by one of the members in that thread. Less than 10 people "liked" the page.

It looks like PnQ dissociated its official relationship with the test page made by Tsukuyomi... read this...

"Final answer: No moderator here will be a part of a facebook page for poems-and-quotes! ~~Sher"

Britt's posts are missing, because it seems she closed her account and then came back later. She or Joe may know who has the key to the page you are looking for.
    ------------------------------------
    This one
    https://www.facebook.com/poems.and.quotes

which is active has Jordan's other alias pic (BearAnon), signed in by a person who has the password, but I doubt if it is Jordan. None of the other people on there seem to be from PnQ.

    And this one,
    https://www.facebook.com/poemsquotes

has some quotes and poems, but a lot of borrowed pics...and no person you could easily identify.

One issue that could conceivably come up when you folks (mods) get involved with an external website (such as facebook or twitter), how would you prevent fans/visitors posting pirated/copyrighted stuff (pics, poems, quotes) from elsewhere? Would that not invite an associated liability and a mod to patrol it, when you refer to it as an extension of PnQ?

Seems to me Sher ^ already took the right position.

Moderators chose not to be part of the FB page, but we gave "permission" for the page to be created by a member. It's not like we can really prevent that from happening anyway.
