LOL! My ex hated food whenever I am around. He snorts when he sleep as well. No wonder we broke up, haha. God, I will always stay alone or find someone like me with the worst attitude ever! Haha.

"I find chewing loudly and obnoxiously rude!..lol its Mannerism ..i was taught to chew with my mouth closed.......so when i hear people smacking their lips or grunting and groaning its just gross...i find it can be a controlled thing. Its not that hard to shut your mouth while chewing and if it is, take smaller bites lol"

Ah, this whole time I thought you meant even when people are chewing with their mouths closed and trying as hard as possible to be polite!

I can't stand when people chew with their mouths open. Horrible, horrible manners. There's no better way to make yourself look like a pig -_-

  • nouriguess

Hahaha! Seriously. Loved the pig part. Haha.

    1. Yaki, I love your hair.

    2. I'm probably a bad chewer. But my ex boyfriend made me really self-conscious about it. Apparently I gulp loudly when I'm drinking? Anyway, he thought it was indelicate. But I think he's rude. So my loud-mouth gulps are a quiet form of retroactive rebellion.

    3. I've heard that in China (at least parts where this person was from) it's considered good manners to eat noisily and with much gusto. Lip smacking, even belching. If you eat quietly and demurely, your host will think that you're not enjoying the food. Fun possibly-true fact.

I feel insecure gulping too loud around my sister. Of course when you pay attention to swallowing, it's that much harder to make it quiet and natural.

Ice kills me. Hearing it in a glass even makes me cringe, but Jason chews it. Mouth open. Now I think he does it to tick to me off, but I seriously tear up when I hear it. It physically hurts me.

  • sibyllene

I can't handle ice chewing. Nope. It's worse than nails on a chalkboard.

On the other hand, I've heard that people who chew ice have greater sexual appetites, so.... score for you, I guess. HA!

  • Britt

    No comment lol.

Apples kill me. A friend always eats them right by me and I want to slap it out of his hands. He chews chips with his mouth open too.

    (o_o)

Listening to all who feel perturbed by others "mannerisms", cognitive behavior therapists (or TRT therapists) should not feel scared of running out of business anytime soon. :)

I am bemused Sibs, you are the most down to earth person here, haha! We all have some eccentricites, none are perfect...if people are seeking perfection they will end up with a select group of folks (OCD's). I agree with your completely.

"BUUURRRP" .... if you try to hold that one in, guess what will happen in 12-24 hrs, F..T down the other end! But, sure one can learn to burp gently or not to "gulp" down the food or water (which is what generally induces the most violent of these, other than the nervous "aerophagic's")
    ------------------------------------
    On a more serious note:
Yes, tinnitus masking devices (principally based on using a white noise to mask the unpleasnt sound/s) in your ears (some look like ipods/mp3 players) may work in retraining and deconditioning the mind for the unfortunate few who have a serious issue with this condition), just like they sometimes work for those afflicted by tinnitus. (Not guaranteed, but may be worth trying, so they may live alongside their loved one's easier). OR simply put on your ipod/mp3 or other distraction device when "eating" or other noises bother you.

I chew ice. I drink fast, gulping, so it doesn't melt in the glass. I wonder how many people I have bothered. Couldn't give a toss, but still.

Unless it's a margarita, I prefer my drinks without ice entirely. I think that's separate than my dislike of ice chewing, though. I mean, I'll melt an icecube in my mouth just fine, but thinking about the texture of chewing it gives me the major willies. The major ones, I say!

  • silvershoes

I chew ice. I chew most things not meant for chewing. Ice, hard candy, pen caps, pencils, toothpicks.

  • abracadabra

Me too. My god we're sexy.

And I adore the sound of someone eating a crisp apple. A large hunk, pulled off and crunched casually at the side of the mouth, with sweet juicy lips slightly open with each bursting chew. Hot.

  • silvershoes

I love it too. A few weeks ago I listened to my crush eat an apple I gave him while we were on a bus together. Each mouth-watering, juicy crunch made me squirm uncomfortably, and I don't mean in a bad way ;)

    Hahaha. We're weirdos.

Yeah Britt! Fleischkeuckle for the win! Also, I just had a margarita, and the ice didn't make me flinch. But that's because I didn't chew it.

Apart from having the intended effect, this thread is making me hungry.

  • Chelsey

I looveeee chewing ice....lol @ the greater sexual appetite saying....wonder how true that really is...

What I hate, is when I don't have a straw and all the ice hits my lips, and it blocks the liquid from coming into my mouth....I get realllllyyyy frustrated. I love ice, so I can't NOT put it in there but its really annoying when it hits my mouth lol....I try to never be out of straws in my house!

  • sibyllene

That's why I never drink things with ice in them! I'm bad at it. I always end up spilling. I also don't like when it melts in my pop and makes it watery.

After a cursory google search, I have seen that people who chew ice are either:

    -Sexually exuberant
    -Sexually frustrated
    or
    -Sexually depraved

Looks like the jury's still out on that one ; )

  • Britt

Haha Sib I can do margarita ice... The blended. But when people bring me drinks with ice I have to wait until it melts down. I actually prefer pop to be warm.

Warm soda?! And who the heck says pop?

  • abracadabra

I love the sound of ice cubes cracking and popping merrily in a glass, it's the sound of good times.

You non-icecubers are "warm pop"-drinking, asexual freaks.

Per, scientific reasoning, an excessive (pathological)desire to chew ice (pagophagia) is a sign of pica, seen with iron deficiency and that you could be anemic. Abnormal craving for non-food items is called pica. Ice eating is the most common, but eating starch, paper, pencil/lead or geophagy (soil, chalk, or clay typically) are also common forms of pica.

Sorry to disappoint, but ice is not an aphrodisiac, though your margarhita may be, in the right amount. No wonder, people might believe mistakenly in ice, instead of the Vit A being the aphrodisiac. However, the act of ice eating can be visually stimulating (sensual).

  • silvershoes

Pretty sure I just like chewing ice, not anemic.

  • Larry Chamberlin

Special for those who, like me, enjoy every aspect of eating, including ice crunching (although there is, sadly, no ice crunching herein):

^^ same here....nor sexually frustrated lol

And I loooveeee the sound of ice clinking the glass and popping too...it does remind me of a good time like a party, that or summer when u chuck a glass full of ice water.mmm

  • sibyllene

I have a friend who always drinks pop warm. I was over there so often that it doesn't bug me at all, though I'd prefer it cold if I had the option.

There was a bucket of beer and ice cubes on my porch today. I musingly picked up a cube and put it in my mouth. I tried to bite it. Nope nope nope.

On the subject of ice crackling... how about when there's a thin sheet of ice over a puddle in the street, and you get to step on it? That's the best.
