    Repeat but sorry

I wanted to clarify and join in the discussion about anonymous judging and what ever .... But I became seriously ill and was out of it for a few weeks. All better now so don't even go there.
What I wanted to offer and probably doesn't ring by now but as some of you have suspected I am an old time member since 04. The beginning of the contest that originally had senior members voting or promoting poems we weren't allowed two time winners in a row as I remember. In fact we couldn't even nominate a two in the row. Also Bob kept us honest about mods not even being allowed nomination wins. Why do you suppose all that? Originally it was to give all more recognition and encouragement to write. Who the hell wants to be on a sight when every freaking week the same names go up time and time again?
And I will say something else and I ain't blowin no horn but i've had a long life of writing. I've appeared in magazines and newspapers and local publishing's. I was a onetime winner of a Nashville song contest out of 2200 entries. Although I never published any books and don't claim to be a Emily Dickenson I damn well can tell good writing that when I read I feel it in my bones. And I'll tell you something honestly and again not to discourage anyone at all but only to open some eyes into and open some depths into the piece of foam between their ears , some of the wins are real crap. Thoughtless, sometimes from ignorance or lack of life experiences.
What I would like to see more on here is real concern and more interest into writing and meaningful extensions and limited more likening someone because they're nice. And also there are lots of people on here that write some damn good stuff and not even get a read.
    Anonymous judges??? .... Eh
    Thanks for letting me unload.

I have been a judge off and on all the time, and I never voted for someone because I liked them. I voted for people I never knew or talked to before, and also voted for someone I had a very public battle with.

It's not all about friends. There are new people up constantly. I don't get the issue here. Mods don't vote unless they have to sub in literally last second. I don't see a mod winning every week. They are members too, why shouldn't they win? I always thought that was a ridiculous rule before and actually felt that as a mod it discouraged me to write and grow.. not because I wanted a win, but because after I did win (mods weren't voting), I was told I was a shitty writer and they only voted for me because I was wishy washy as a mod so they liked me. I know who the judges were... we did NOT get along.

So, what? Your mad because you haven't won, or supposedly it's the same names up there time and again? Some of which the poems don't meet you standards? That's why there is more than one judge, it's all done fairly, but you know that I suppose. Every name up there deserves its win. And I've seen a lot of unknown members win over the corse of re joining myself. I guess we're going to have to agree to disagree here. However there are some poems I've read an thought, how the hell did that not win.

Dan, I note you rejoined this past November. I don't recall seeing your name as having made any nominations. perhaps the most direct way of making the change you want is to participate.

Perhaps I shouldn't say this, but well, since I manage the contest and I am responsible for collecting the votes and comments from the judges, trust me I have witnessed some miracles :P like a judege voting for someone they just argued with on the main forums, and/or a judge voting for someone I know they aren't on the same page with.

However this may not be the case, I understand where you're coming from somehow but trust me it's hard to please everyone, and if judges are taking sides, then you will have to blame those who are nominating ? which isn't right, we all went through this discussion before. People read and comment, then nominate what they like, judges read and choose what they like.

Many poems are well written yet ignored, most probably the author isn't active well enough to be recognized (not blaming just saying how it might be going) but one thing I know, I definitely I'm seeing new faces each single week..

You write to win? Poor thing. (I don't mean YOU in particular.)

Don't give a damn about winning. I don't. I write because it's what I am good at, what I relish most of the time when I am down or something. I don't write to have a 'win'. That's just ridiculous. (Again, not meant to you, Dan, I mean in general.)

I have been a judge once and I can tell you it's such a hard job to choose between all those beautiful poems being nominated. You only have three choices. Yup, that sucks.

Maybe you could go to the forum where you might ask for nominations whether for your pieces or others!

    Iced tea is yummy.

Please don't misinterpret what I posted. I am only pointing out that this sight really is for the young. Older folk like me are not participators as such ,but only readers and can offer if we think we can alter or have something to offer. My purpose was to offer that all who sign up must be afforded the chance to be critiqued and the luxuries of being included.
Yes there are many on here who write simplistically. There are also those who with great constipation effort seem to think by squirting what they think poetry the same are somehow contributing to the world of poetry.
And of course there are those who are in fact on their way to maybe being. I see nothing but benefit by issuing proclamation that one who wins can not be nominated again for reasonable certain period of time. I pure judge should spend all his/her time reading and surmising. (Larry)... before I had removed my original account and in the beginning I did vote and I did submit those. Because I resigned my original sign I am no longer eligible senior member. Therefore...
And to the juvenile issue " I (me) am some how upset because no one votes my poetry so I never win" eh?
I am not trying to cause trouble I am only offering an opinion that is directed at helping those who seem to be lost to the wind.

See, there's your problem: you have not even written 3 praiseworthy comments since returning yet decry the lack of comments on quality poems. Many members leave & return regularly. Doesn't take them anytime to rebuild their nominating status of 10 praised comments. Again, become the force for the change you wish by leading.
