Plagiarism Round 2

With a little investigation it seems that the site has been abandoned. The main admin is Charles Konsor and then his brother Patrick Konsor deals with the servers. I managed to find Patricks direct email
    p@patrickkonsor.com
I have yet to find Charles' though.
It seems that after reading some of the forums that Charles has abandoned the site after offering a 100.00 dollar prize for a contest he ran, only had a couple of submissions then stated he was reviewing the contest entries and ditched the site and never paid up. Don't know if this is factual just what I read.
Other members stated that they have emailed both Charles and Patrick and to no avail there have been no replies. They have no other moderators other than themselves. Plenty of people have stepped up to the plate to offer moderating and it seems that the request have gone to the wayside.

I also understand that the flagging was an automatic take down because of how many people flagged her. It had nothing to do with the mods/admin there or requests to do so.

While I agree partly with what Colm said I also believe that the only way to prevent these types of plagiarist are in numbers. P&Q was on that same sinking ship up until recently with Mods stretched as far as they could go and manually having to do things. Now that Janis is back and making updates our boat has smoother sailing. We are passionate about our works and I know it is a risk that we take but nonetheless one we can help with our fellow members by attacking these plagiarist in numbers.

Can anyone else confirm that "Lady Amai" has been shut down, after trying to get into her pages a few minutes ago this is the site response:

"This profile has been closed by the writer."

But doing a little investigation, I see a new writer rigistered as:

    http://www.writerscafe.org/Puramu%20Amai

    Puramu Amai
    I'm cute...admit it!
    Norwich, CT
    Offline

"Puramu Amai" with no poems yet, please keep an eye on this new registration, I suspect she has a new account. If it is the same person and she continues with the same tricks then we should continue to give her hell!

I agree with you, I didn't see the new writer but indeed it needs to be watched in case it is her.

There obviously won't be any help from the mods there.

But the public pressure is working, she had to shut down, so we shall continue to provide the same pressure!

I went to check again as well and on her profile it says:

"This profile has been closed by the writer."

But I have a feeling she is still there going by other names...but no poems yet! I will keep an eye on it as well.

"You must be this writer's friend to see the rest of their profile."

that is what it says for me when i looked at her profile. does this mean none of us can see if she has posted anymore of P&Q's poems?

^^^From what we have been dishing out on the site, I really doubt she will have many friends, unless they are also the same like her- a parasite!

The poems are still there. She has a new name:

    rwar ish me

    http://www.writerscafe.org/Cherry_Blossom

Paste the link of the poem and you will see it. This girl is very smart and Writers Café is not a serious site. She plagiarised more than 20 poems of mine. I am really angry.

Yeah the poems are still there. I couldn't view all of them but did manage to view a bunch. The admin there has ditched the site about a year ago so no help will be given to us in our endeavor.

I think now our best bet is to take it to google.

I will work on that in a bit.

Thanks Sherry, I also think that is our only hope.

I know I don't speak for everyone but I would just like to thank you Mods, whether we have disagreed or agreed in the past. That site is a ghost town and very symbolic of what could have happened here. A special thanks to all the Mods past and present who did not give up hope and abandon ship when you could have.

Thank you mods, Dixie, Cynnie and everyone who did their best to get this solved. However, I have been sick of this. Plagiarists are everywhere. Why the heck are we trying to stop them? I just find no point in this. It's sickly and ugly but what can we do? We can't make all this fuss out of plagiarism. If everytime we are to get busy searching, reporting and getting upset, we won't have time nor the peace of mind to even write.

Well said Dixie. Thank you so much Mods, for all the work you do behind the scenes :)

    Well Noura...

right now I have no peace to write because as you can see most of my poems were stolen. I know we run risks but it is a shame to allow someone disrespects a lot of poets who write regularly here and who dedicate themselves to this site.

I understand Karla, I seriously do. My poems are being plagiarized as well. Not the best feeling and we must fight it, try to stop it and all but we shouldn't get upset about it.... I see lots of members leaving the site, stopping writing or I don't know just because of this. It just ain't worth it, I believe.

  • Solus

Interesting...it seems I've missed a lot. It there a way to find out via the mods on here if they have uncovered one of your poems that have been plagiarised?

  • Karla

You know Noura, people see things differently. My poems are the result of my creativity. It is hard for me to write in English and I do find extremely difficult to see that someone else stole my pieces. For me my production is special in both English and Portuguese. She can steal my poems but not my inspiration/creativity and above all my sense of justice.

Hey guys. Congratulations on (hopefully) getting the profile closed. I hope that lessens the stress for people who had poems taken.

Like I said in an earlier thread, I think it was important to take public, group action here due to the sheer amount of poems that were taken. We can't very well track down every time a poem is stolen, but if there is an incident like this, it can't hurt to have more of the site step in.

I would just urge people to try to go through official channels as much as possible. We can write administrators, flag profiles, and post statements referring to the original works. But I really don't think it helps anything to pepper a person with personal insults through messages or forums. I know we're mad and all, and a person might actually be a dirty rotten thief, but I just don't think it's going to solve things by sending them 10 emails saying it. I know we can't control what members here do on other sites (they are your poems, after all) but I don't really like to see a group anger mob originating here. We're all better than that.. that's why we don't steal, because we're decent people who are confident in our talents.

Others might feel differently, I just want to urge everyone to try the other methods first, and be the bigger person when we're dealing with annoying people who clearly don't share the same values.

As for these new accounts that might be popping up... keep an eye on them. But don't jump to any conclusions until there is a good indication that they are the same person, and are intent on stealing again.

  • Karla

I suppose the stress is the same because nothing changed at all.

  • nouriguess

Karla, I seriously am not defending her! I am defending you guys! All I said was to calm down and don't be too upset because an immature child stole your creativity. I see no wrong in that.

  • Karla

Noura I feel I dont have to comment what you said. I don't understand you and you don't understand me.

  • sibyllene

I used my account to look into what it meant to "close" your account. I think her account really is closed, not just blocked from view. I can't find any other way to make it say that. This is what I saw:

"Closing your account will close your profile and remove you from the Writers Search. However, if you would like your stories, poetry, articles, or books removed, you must delete them yourself. Your name and photo may still appear on the website where you have previously reviewed or on your Cafe Friend's friend list."

So I think what you are seeing is the ghost of her former account. We had a similar problem here, where if someone got suspended, their poems were still available if you entered the old link. They are just stored or archived separately. So, my feeling is that, while the poems are still technically there, they won't (under that account) be viewable or able to be attributed to her, unless you already had the link for them, as we do. No one else should be able to stumble across them, and I doubt even she saved links to all those poems.

I did the same thing yesterday.

Thank you guys who are doing something on this issue, my poems were plagiarized as well and it hurts me so bad. Just hope she gets what she deserves.

Plagiarism is something that used to really upset me, but unfortunately it happens. All art has or will be stolen by someone else.

I see.....well a simple no would have worked but I guess completely ignoring me works as well.

Use any advanced search site, such as google, to locate your poems if they have been plagiarized.
