Really? You holiday here? Where abouts?
    Happy birthday to your brother!

Happy 4th of July! Thanks to our forefathers for winning independence and laying the foundation for what has become a great nation.
What are the American PnQ'ers doing today?

I'm drinking beers with my family, watching our huge flag flap in the wind. Thinking about driving over to the water and setting off fireworks.

I went to the US on my honeymoon!

We spent 5 nights in LA, then 5 nights in Vegas and 5 nights in Hawaii

Oh we had so much fun in LA... went to Disneyland and Universal Studios, met up with some family friends that live there it was so good!!!

Went to Grand Canyon (kinda freaked me out though it was windy and I'm not too fond of heights)
    but but beautiful.

Also went to San Diego to Sea World which was so good too.

I've been begging my husband to go back because I want to go to NY and visit Niagra Falls.

    Happy Independence Day, y'all!

We spent the morning sleeping in.. all of our friends were doing the first Freedom 5k - our church got together with the city leaders and did a 5k (on our parade route). All proceeds went to a veteran's fund. Three gals that started our towns running club and the worship pastor got it all started. I'm going to do it next year!

I missed the parade this year, too exhausted! We went to our pastors house for BBQ and swimming, though the pool was too cold. Then came home early and put away all our wedding gifts, sorted through our kitchen stuff and have an estimated 2 truck loads full of donations for goodwill! I can't wait to get this stuff out of my house.

I'm not being very patriotic today, though I did put out my Flag door hanger. lol

Pm me your last name lol

I thought it was gorgeous there but I was really freaking out. We walked from one end to this other area (it was probably a 2 - 3 k walk) and I swear I was admiring the view but running at the same time lol trying to anyways.

It was simply amazing being surrounded by such beauty. The sheer size of the canyon was mind blowing!!!

  • Britt

    Smart alek lol

I would probably be scared too, I'm not a fan of heights. I haven't been to any of the places you've been to here. I bet Disneyland was fun :) I love that you went there on your honeymoon.

  • silvershoes

Lioness, I have been to all of those places :) Disney Land, Universal Studios, Sea World, and the Grand Canyon.

I'm sort of indifferent toward the first 3, but the Grand Canyon is breath-taking! My mom made me sit on the edge of a cliff with my legs dangling over. I was a decade younger and more fearless than I am now. Heights are intimidating. I get dizzy in my tree house these days...

I'm glad you enjoyed your time in the States :)

  • Lioness

:O @ dangling... oh my gosh seriously I would have tripped and fell lol

Disneyland was AWESOME. I have always wanted to go since I was a kid when my bro went and he brought me back a mickey mouse book with my name in it lol I was so happy and said next time he goes I will go with him.

Has anyone been to NY??? That's where I really want to go next

  • Britt

    Jane that sounds freakin' terrifying!

I went to NY for a school trip. Times Square was way too busy for my liking. SO many people.

  • Lioness

Lol I think I am used to it with so many people around me in the city. I think it's just something that you need to do at least once.

I'd love to see the snow there. Winter in NY - oh how magical

  • silvershoes

Yes, been to NY many times. Half of my family is from New York and still lives there. My sister lives in NYC.

If you want travel tips/advice for over there, I'm sure I can put together something.

Britt, I'm not into cities much myself... unlike most of my family. I get claustrophobic :\

Lioness, where in OZ do you live? I've been to parts of NSW and Queensland. Would love to get back to Australia one of these days.

Speaking of traveling, anyone been to anywhere in South America? If so, where and would you recommend it for a family trip? We're thinking of going to Costa Rica or Ecuador for 2 weeks in December.

  • Britt

Yes, country is where its at :)

I haven't been, but Jasons aunt and uncle visit Costa Rica often (family is there). They love going, though they don't do anything touristy or travel the cities (they're anti city).

Happy 4th America! Just the most amazing place to be in. I was not born here, but love this country more than any other (including my country of birth). The free spirit, innovation, people and the philanthropic/reach out and help thy neighbour/world attitude most Americans have.

Places to visit: innumerable, Yellowstone, Yosemite..some of the best developed wilderness and nature spots in the world. Alaska, Grand canyon, colorado mountains...gorgeous, stunning. Now you also have a glass bottom cantilever style skywalk in the Northern rim of the canyon to stand on and stare down at the amazing spectacle (owned and operated by an Indian tribe). Amazing cities, also wonderful to visit, if you do not live there. Lived in NY 4 years...loved the city, not the busy life style or the unfriendly attitude to immigrants or strangers. Probably, will rank one of the lowest on my list for being a "People" friendly city/place.
Niagara is definitely awesome, particularly looking at the stunning horshoe falls from the Canadian side. Definitely worth a visit!

Aha! Just made Kevin "J", what do you say Jane? Bet, he wished he was here! Who on earth would not dream to be here.

This land is for the free and the brave (remember the national Anthem) and not owned by anyone or any country, but belongs to those who love it and put in their hard work to make it better. So that claim would be defunct.

Just came back last night from London, and loved the "Americanization" of the people's spirits there...compared to my last visit 25 years ago. So guess who owe's who friend? The descendents of the persecuted Englishmen who boarded the Mayflower with a spirit of Adventure? or the one's still living under the "Crown"? Ha! ha!

  • silvershoes

Haha, I think you've made some good points there, Lonely.

I do love the UK. I want to return one of these days, especially to London and Edinburgh. I have both English and Scottish heritage, but I tend to favor my Scottish blood. I wish England would give Scotland's entire independence back, those scalawags!

:O @ you've been to Aussie - Wow where did you enjoy the most?

I live in Sydney and work in the Sydney cbd.

Have you been to Sydney before? It is the best place. I love QLD - I actually went to Cairns before and it was amazing. I want to go back to QLD where it is not as humid as Cairns. I also want to go to the Hamilton Island or Haymen Island. They look AMAZING

Yes, I was in Australia backpacking and working for 6 months when I was 20. After polo tournament season ended (and so did my job), I spent 3 weeks staying at a hostel in Sydney and roaming around. There was this little sushi joint that made the most amazing teriyaki rolls I've ever eaten! I bought my sushi there every single day, then walked across the street to a convenience store to buy my $1AUD diet coke. I left Sydney and came back for a week several months later. The guys at the convenience store still remembered me. Made me feel special.

I loved Sydney. What a great place to live. Every day I walked to the water, stood on the bridge, and watched ships and ferries go by with the Opera house looming in the distance.

I worked on several ranches in Queensland mustering cattle... Gympie, Goomeri... forget where else. Never made it up to Cairns unfortunately. I will definitely make a point to go to Cairns next time I visit. I also missed out on Byron bay, Ayers rock, and Alice Springs.
I loved Brisbane and Melbourne. Spent time in other places too in NSW, though the only one coming to mind just now is Goulburn.

:O Wow you were here for a while. I thought it was just a small visit but that's awesome.

You're almost Aussie yourself lol Did you accent change at all? Lol

The funny thing is you have travelled more around Aussie than I have :O lol OMG so much shame on myself lol

How nice that the guy remembered you lol

The Bridge is awesome, I did a ghost tour last year around The Rocks which was awesome. If you ever come back to Aussie you should do that. It was great to learn history while crapping yourself lol

  • silvershoes

My accent might have changed a little bit, but my vocab changed a lot! I got made fun of by everyone back home when I came back.

It's often the case I find that visitors make the effort to see all the attractions much more than locals. I grew up inside Oakland about 10 minutes from San Francisco and still haven't been to Alcatraz, though it's high up on my list.

If I come back to Aussie, I will have you help write me up some traveler tips and suggestions ;)

Jane, when you go to Australia next you must visit my hometown, Wollongong. It's a 50 minute drive from Sydney and we're all coast. The Lioness can tell you how wonderful it is. I'm generally in Sydney city every weekend.

As for Cairns, I lived there for two years, that's where I am on holiday at the moment. Gorgeous place and I travel up here at least twice a year. I will add that to your list of 'must travel' too.

Also I'm late but Happy 4th of July!

You guys went to a traditional Hawaiian Lu ow lol or however you spell it lol We did too and it was awesome, especially the drinks but I couldn't watch them take out the pig from the ground coz it made me sad lol hubby took photos but I asked him not to lol

You guys are making me want to travel all over.

Jane, South America would be so awesome. I have a cousin who went to Peru recently, and her pictures were amazing.

My parents are going to Belize and Honduras in February, the scallywags. (Yeah, I know, it's Central America. Still.) I never thought my mom would get to do a jungle zipline before I did.

Luau :) And yeah we did go to one, the fire baton/dancer guy was pretty incredible! I got bored pretty easily though. I was exhausted and it was ridiculously hot that day, I really wanted to sleep. The food wasn't that great either, mostly seafood which I don't like (!).. lol.

They just dug the pit, they didn't actually put a pig in it. I think that's for the bigger luau's.. lol. Isn't that place gorgeous though?! Oh I should be there right now lol.

Lol @ scallywags, Sib. That cracked me up. Why the heck do you people get so fortunate to be able to travel all over?! I'm jealous! lol

  • Lioness

Lol I would love to be back there as well!!! Without the pig though.

I am right now and it is 3am and the love boat just finished playing on tv lol

Yes that's the way you spell it!!! Lol
