Wish you all success in spiritual cleansing and finding God's love in this 9th lunar month of your calendar.

AND yet we have bloodshed in places ?

    Quoted from http://www.northjersey.com/news/opinions/100414459_The_significance_of_Ramadan.html

"During the fast, Muslims are required to abstain from all evils, as petty as they may be. Indulging in immoral talk, abusing, cursing and fighting are strictly prohibited. The idea is to spend maximum time and attention toward improving one's spiritual self and striving to attain the love of God. To ensure maximum attention toward one's spiritual development, all physical pleasures are best avoided during the day while fasting. Conjugal relationships between husband and wife are permitted at night only.

In particular, I found this most interesting:

"If a person does not avoid false talk and false conduct during fasting, then Allah does not care if he abstains from food and drink," Muhammad said.

    AND this :

"According to scholars the Prophet Mohammed, although not a vegetarian, did prefer to eat vegetarian foods and had a great love and compassion for animals. His favourite foods consisted of yogurt with butter or nuts, cucumbers with dates, pomegranates, grapes and figs. He was known to have quoted: "Where there is an abundance of vegetables, a host of angels will descend on that place."

    David;

"If a person does not avoid false talk and false conduct during fasting, then Allah does not care if he abstains from food and drink," Muhammad said.

    ^ Very True!

And for the fig and yogurt and dates, etc... that's very true.

In fact the Quraa'n and Prophet say that eating meat should be very moderate. We have garlic and onions and fig and olive and many other vegetables mentioned in the Quraan.

Abed: . Thank you for your comment. I enjoy learning the teachings of each religion. They all have many fundamental similarities.

Just one question on the translation of the Prophet's word in English here:
'"If a person does not avoid false talk and false conduct during fasting, then Allah does not care if he abstains from food and drink,"

Did the translator imply this instead?
""If a person avoids false talk and false conduct during fasting, then Allah does not care if he abstains from food and drink,"

which carries a slightly different meaning to it.

Davz, despite of the translation, the real meaning is, as the following statement:

Even if you absatain from food and drink, if you gossip and lie, and harm others, or do any deed that falls under such titles...then you're fasting is Invalid.

Before you fast from food and drinks, tie your tongue 1st from untrue stuff, and harmful ones. It's not about starving yourself, but rather disciplining it.

    Hope this cleared it!

What is the minimum age for a child to follow the rules of ramadan? I'm using the word rules because I can think of another right now haha!!! I'm just talking about not eating/drinking during certain hours?

  • Sunshine

Between 9/10 for girls, or..to be accurate when they both reach puberty, they must start following..

  • Hellon

So...if they are late developers the age could be extended to perhaps 13....in my eyes 13 is more a realistic figure of when puberty would happen?

  • Max

Yes it could be extended till they reach puberty

  • Hellon

Could or would? How do you know when a male has reached puberty for example?

  • Max

It is Extended to be more accurate cause that person if he\she didn't reach puberty they they don't have to fast thro Ramadan but they can if they want to

I guess it is thro physical changes I can't name in English cause I am not very good at it

  • Decayed

When a male reaches puberty, semen is ejaculated while in sleep. So in the morning, he feels that there is something in his underwear. He looks: White stuff.

    => PUBERTY!

  • Sunshine

Hellonz, yes until they reach puberty, they are not responsible;e but are free to fast and pray if they wish

as for males, despite the physical standards, in 98 % of the cases they start by the age of 15/16. Scientifically :P

  • Sunshine

Ewww Boudiz, baby did you have to be so damn accurate. lmao disgusting dude !

  • Max

For ill people who are on medication (and travelers, too), they are free not to fast, but they should pay a certain amount of money ( for every day they didn't fast through) to orphans or needy people.

My mother who is on daily medication for example, she has low levels of Serotonin and other medical problems, and when she fasts, she cannot move. That's why she doesn't fast. She pays money instead.

  • Max

But travelers when they are home again they can fast they days they missed after Ramadan or as you said they can pay certain amount of money for everyday they didn't fast thro
which equals a meal good enough for one person
and for Ill people as long as they are ill they pay money for days they miss
and if they became fine again the can fast the days they missed cause of illness instead of paying money

  • Hellon

That's ok...I get what you're saying and the reason I'm asking...I was brought up catholic and back then (I believe it's changed now) we receive holy communion at the age of 7, this meant back in those days you had to fast for 3 hours prior to this. During lent...the six weeks leading up to easter (something like ramadan I would imagine) we were encouraged to attend mass and receive holy communion before going to school which mean a lot of 7 year olds were very hunger and many fainted during the service....we were also expected to give up something we really liked...a special lolly, that type of thing. At the age of 7, according to the catholic faith then....we had reached the stage of understanding.

When I reached 13....possibly the age a child would expect to follow the ramadan rules I was already asking questions.

    *Edit...

Obviously a lot of posts were made while I was trying to respond to Max!

  • Max

Catholics here still follow what you just said

  • Hellon

Well...I wouldn't really know for sure. Think you don't have to fast for as long now and....you will NOT go to hell if you don't attend mass on the sabbath....

  • Max

Hellon we never know if what we do is right or wrong
so we can't be sure about if somebody is going to Hell for something or not right??

  • Sunshine

True...no body can assume or decide. All i know is, we shall do everything in life with good intentions ..

  • Hellon

OMG..you actually believe there's a hell?..yeah so do I....we're here already! It's when we die and whatever superior being we worship says....Man...you seriously F***** up last time so I'm sending you back.....

  • Max

I think there is no going back after the point of death
death leads to one way with 2 passes
one leading to hell and the other leading to heaven
that is what I believe in

  • Hellon

So...there's some sort of crossroads...with a person (guess I can't say St. Peter so...can I use Abdul?) directing the soul traffic? Can you honk you horn if he's trying to direct you one way while you really wanted to go the other...if so...is there any chance of chucking a U turn further along the way?

  • Max

There is no chances after death
cause you had all your chances thro your life time
and I think somethings should stay away from talking about cause we will just keep thinking and will reach nothing after all

somethings only God knows about and we can never guess it right

  • Decayed

    Who is Abdul? :P

Hellon, I believe that God drew your start and drew your death. And he gave you the choice to draw your roads from the start till death.

So your cleanliness of heart, body, and soul is what directs the souls traffic along those roads you drew to one of the both ways.
