Calls For: The HUNGER GAME Contest

This is an official announcement to join us in the game of destinies you are bound to play.

And as we say, "may the odds ever be in your favor."

Through this battleship of poetic creativity and dexterity, you need the GUTS, GUNS & BRAINS to be amongst the Last Men Standing.

Those who blink an eye, scar a finger, or injure a leg so fast are not welcomed in here. No chances for WEAKNESS.

MARK MY WORDS: once you are IN, you cannot go OUT... without Public Punishment.

    Our Rules Are Plain Instinctive

    --------------------------Signing Up---------------------------------
    - Shoot me with a bloody PM if you want to be a part of this. DO NOT state in THIS THREAD that you are up for the game! In the PM, choose for yourself a nickname for the survivor inside of you. It would be your name through all rounds.

    * NOTE: Your identity is not a secret. Contestants will be revealed all at once, when I have the full list of names. However, your poetry pieces through all rounds are TOP SECRET to viewers & judges.

    - DEADLINE FOR SIGNING UP: You have until JULY 30 to sign up.

------------ AFTER signing up / BEFORE the game starts -------

    * When I announce the names of all contestants, they can start preparing themselves for The Hunger Game, where they can:

    - showcase their non-poetic skills (just be CREATIVE & ORIGINAL) to earn votes from PnQ viewers; those votes will be your BONUS POINTS which you can use in a single round that you choose before the game, to increase your chances in survival.

NOTE: "TO EARN VOTES from PnQers", you can bribe your friends, open threads in your clubs, record your singing on vocaroo.com, video-shoot yourself, display your artistic talents, etc... [Special threads will be made fore VOTES, after signing up closes]

    * FOR PnQers: Everyone can place bets on who they think the TWO LAST MEN STANDING would be, and when we reach to that finale, the points one got in the bets, will be added to his/her final score. [Special threads will be made for BETS after signing up closes].

    ---------------------ABOUT THE GAME------------------------------

    - Your poems will be judged by different worthy PnQers through each round.

    - The number of rounds are directly proportional to the number of contestants.

    - Through each round, there will be a certain number of murdered (eliminated) poets.

    - The eliminated poets should stop posting poems for a certain number of days (based on the level they have lost in; range from: 3 days --> 2 weeks).

    - If those eliminated do not stick to the above rule, they will be PUBLICALLY PUNISHED in special threads where all PnQers will be allowed to throw them with Stinky Shoes, Rotten Potatoes/Tomatoes, Sweaty Socks...

    - Without any prior notice, between a round and another OR during certain rounds, there will be tasks given to all poets/poetesses to complete just to earn extra points that would also assist you through each round. That's why you should always be awake. A blink of an eye can make you lose points.

    - If you lose, you would have ONE CHANCE to return back to the game by guessing correctly (through PM), the poets/poetesses of the LOSING poems in the round you lost through.

    - The Last Poet(ess) Standing will receive tokens of critical comments and a virtual HUNGER GAMES WINNER title. YOU WILL BE REMEMBERED IN HISTORY BOOKS!

I got those questions concerning the game, so the answers might be useful for you, too:

1- Will the users know what our nicknames are?

    * Yes, all PnQ will know those who are IN the game (Nicknames can attract voters ;). Due to this, humiliation, awarding, bets & votes can be done.

BUT, their pieces of poetry will be top secret.

2- How many votes does each person have to help their friends? One vote in total? One per round?

    * Before the game starts, anyone can vote to the contestants they preferred while showcasing talents.

You can vote for many contestants, whether you are a contestant or not. Of course you can't vote for yourself. And you can vote for each contestant once only.

WHEN THE GAME STARTS, the voting thing will be closed. (along with placing BETS)

3- When placing bets is there a chance fot me to lose something..is a betting amount required? Can those who are in the contest place bets too?

    * No, you don't lose anything if you place your bets.
    * You get to bet on TWO contestants whom you think they will be amongst the last men standing.
    * Contestants can also place bets.

-- Bets will be closed also when the game starts.

4- So basicially I try and get as many extra points, by begging many people to vote for me, before it actually starts?

    * YUP! You can beg, bribe, blackmail.... or play it clean and put on a show in the thread I will do after the signing up is closed.

5- Do I get to decide when I'd like to use these points? I know that I will have to decide BEFORE I know what the round will be about, but can I freely chose the round?

    * You can decide when you'd like to use the points you have earned before the game starts/when voting is over. For example, you can choose to use the votes in the 1st round, or 2nd, or 3rd, ...., or in the Final one. It depends on how SMART you are, not just on how TALENTED, but SMART..... because you may lose without even getting to use the votes you earned.

Maybe it's because I haven't read/watched Hunger Games but the answer to #5 totally confused me. :/

  • Decayed

Britt, I have edited the answer to #5.
    I hope it's now simpler? :)

  • Britt

So do you only get a heap of points at the beginning, and not per round?

  • Decayed

    YUP!

The voting thread before the game makes you earn points only at the beginning. And you'd get to use this handful of points in the round you pre-chooses!

    --

BUT the 'tasks' between two rounds, make you earn other heaps of votes for the next round.

The average age of contestants till now is approximately 24.25 years.

That shows that the old people on this website are CHICKENS!

    Buk-Buk-Bakeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek-keeek!

and FEMALES apparently are more courageous!!!

    Where are the men??

  • Kevin

I like the theme, but dislike the execution (mwa ha).

Poetry competitions based in any way on popularity are just so utterly crap I shouldn't even need to explain. Your little comp is akin to vanity publishing. There is little merit is such an event.

A really bad writer with enough friends could get much further in your event than a very good writer who doesn't have many contacts.

The reason no men have applied yet is because most men on this site (I imagine and/or hope) don't want to associate themselves with a little hi5'ing wink winking situation.

Real writers should be judged purely on their work, not on how many votes or friends they have etc etc.

Like I said, love the theme and the use of The Hunger Games as a basis, but if I took anything away from that film it is that everyone who took part in those games was a working class slave forced to be involved in a corrupt and messed up system in order to survive. IE, it wasn't a good way of doing things.

This is what you used as the basis for your comp?

    ><

  • Chelsey

Damn.....was it that serious? This is just for fun! Its different. Inspired from the movie, not EXACTLY like the movie... How boring if every site comp had the same rules and regulations......he's trying to do something different and create his own unique challenge, nothing should be changed, its whatever the host wants, not what people request or dislike. Lol I love it :) go women!

My tongue was firmly in cheek, IE I was sort of joking around.

GOOOOOOOOO ABED...damn that's a tough one that I'd like to see.

So exciting, did you brain hurt thinking before you came up with this ? :P

  • Decayed

    Kevin, I understand you.
And there are two brave men that joined.

As Chelsey said, I am trying to make something new...
and I never meant to make this a popularity contest since I said above that those votes can be earned through showcasing other non-poetic talents. That means, this contest is a package of popularity, non-poetic talents, poetic talents, and being smart (how to use the votes earned, and when)....

so it's kind of a diverse contest, 70% focuses on poetry.

------ Nana, haha, yup, it did. but it was basically a small contest for the club.. then I decided to make it site-wide...

How long will each round run? will round one last more than 1 week. I have to decide you see...should I save my rotting tomatoes or give them to the chooks?

Can't commit to this one but...sounds like fun...guess if I give the tomatoes to the chooks I'll have more eggs to throw further down the track. Mmmmmm

  • Decayed

A round will range between 5 or 6 days! (that is not 100% confirmed)

    * it depends on how many rounds there will be. And how many rounds depends on how many contestants there will be.
