There are some things I don't watch of it but my fav's would have to be the diving, gymnastics and I don't mind watching the sync swimming.

I LOVE watching the opening ceremony!

Lol it is so awesome, they make things look so easy but omg!!! lol I have trouble stretching lol

  • Britt

Lol I know! I found a cool trick to touch my toes all the way. After working out, Rachael had me try to touch my toes. I could JUST barely touch the top of my shoe, and it hurt my thighs bad (they were way too tight). So she had me stretch my inner thigh and I was able to full on grab around my foot and more to go. I've never been that flexible before, haha!

  • Lioness

I wonder how you stretched your inner thigh? lol was this after you got married :O lol

  • Britt

    Ohmygod. HAHAHA NO.

Well, yes, it was, but you squat down on one leg, and take your other leg and extend it out to the side with your foot "up", and lean on the leg holding you up.

  • Lioness

Lol oh I might try that lol

I've already tried the other thing lol

OMG me too lol I would love to go there right now but the plane ride is too long for me lol

I absolutely enjoyed it. I was in awe of the rings and then the flame and the singing and lights and show lol

Too bad for us here in the US, particularly on the West coast. NBC has delayed the broadcasting of the ceremony to 7.30 pm throughout the country...so it is on in the East coast and the mid west right now, but we have to wait another 1.45 hrs.
    :(

Hey Liz, why does this one has a title Go Aussie go!. They have yet to start.

I would not hoot for the Aussies, not yet...haha! They are our competitors!

I recently visited the first ancient Olympic sports arena in Olympia, on the island of Katakolon where the first classic Olympics were held begining in 776 BC. Also, the first modern Olympic stadium in Athens, and the visit was to say the least, exhilarating, in particular the ancient site museum.
(I have some pictures of me trying to throw a discus in the ancient stadium, maybe will post it as an Avatar one day...haha)

I will post some history of the Olympics, if people desire.

  • Lioness

Oh that would be awesome to read.

Gosh David it must have been quite magical and emtional being in the first place to hold the Olympics.

I will cheer for my country always lol even if they don't win anything I will always cheer for them

I'm still sniggering at Lionesses comment up there.

I have to say, the part of the opening ceremonies I saw was weird. The giant baby with a broken head and no body? Not ok.

It is pretty cool to have this big global activity, though. They said approximately 1 billion people were watching. That's nuts.

  • Lioness

Oh hun I don't think that it was a giant baby with a broken head and no body lol I think it was the face they were expressing, with the eyes opening and closing like sleep time

  • Lioness

Oh and one billion is heaaaaaaaaaaaaaapsssssssssssssssssssssss

I have to say the opening that was in Bejing was brilliant!!!

That was some opening though I wasn't a fan of the hey lets fake the girl's voice or the fireworks though lol But the drums were my fav part.

Not to forget the Aussie opening ceremony lol :">

^One Billion, that would be in either China or India alone, I would think...lot of interest worldwide.

^^^ Snigger= Austraaalian ahh! for snicker, like the expression in the new Avatar :)
The giant baby with the fractured head on viewing a still picture appears to be a bandage covered head (perhaps), did have a body...covered by some sort of giant white covers held by the nurses. Depicting perhaps an injured baby in a treatment ward. That particular event was part of a tribute to GOSH (Great Ormond Street Hospital charity aka London Children's hospital) performed by actual nurse and doctor's volunteer's to celebrate what the Londoner's are most proud of, their National Health Service. It was a wonderful honor for one of the World's largest children's hospital (outside US/Canada).

Never thought Her Majesty the Queen will agree to a theatrical entrance like the one we saw James Bond style, jumping off a helicopter! What a treat.

The bikers with the fluorescent violet butterfly wings encircling the stadium
    AND
the Olympic rings visual effects show with fire in the sky

^ incredible visual effects treats that I enjoyed in the ceremony. Tell me more about what struck you folks last night.

Liz, can you change the title of your thread to XXX Olympiad (to keep up with the Int'l spirit). I refuse to post anything more here, once the games begin. haha!

    ^^^^

Leave it as it is....let them make their own thread haha (joking!)

One loved the James Bond/Her Majesty's grand entrance...One thought it was hilarious!!!

    GO AUSSIES!!!!

OK Guys you asked for it. So I will open a new International thread and you are all invited to post your comments on the olympics.

(Just realized, one cannot change the title on a thread anyway)

Saw the opening when I got to my sister's house last night. Thought Mary Poppins was a cool touch, but I liked the idea tossed out that they should have had Daniel Radcliffe fly in on a broom to light the flame.

    Hey Guys, Its me...:)

It is so exciting, I am watching the cycling at the moment, but I know we have some good chances today in the swimming, with a few of our swimmers getting through to the finals, this evening.

I watched the opening ceremony, and it was really good I agree, makes me very proud to be British!
But I did give good cheers to the Australian's when they entered the arena, and the Syrian competitors, and the Americans and the Lebanese, all in spirit of my great family here!!

Such a great thing to be a part of. :)

    GO GREAT BRITAIN!!!!

    Are you sure?

    Yeesh!

I will have to take back some of my initial snarkiness, though. I watched again during the lighting ceremony, and that was pretty sweet. I loved the copper torch/flower.

Maybe I was mistaken? Lol it was 5:30 in the morning for me watching it lol I had sleepy eyes though I am used to waking up early it felt weird coz it was Saturday for me

It was so great watching it though. It brings my heart a lovely feeling to see so many countries getting together like that. I felt warm and fuzzy!!!

Lol I like the title of this thread :P but of course I am bias lol

I was watching the cycling and oh man they just ride for hours!!! I am blown away by their energy!!!

There are some strong and fierce competitors out there.
