Best comment praises

Everyone now knows that mods don't rely on the praiser's note when deciding to accept or decline the praise.
Consequently, we've been getting some great tidbits instead. Thought I'd start this thread for the ones that really hit us as "praiseworthy"

    First entry:

Must have been a big methane producer (fa....)!
He was only 23, partying with his friends and wanted to put on a show for his friends...must be practicing for the traditional kiwi fire dance, ha!
He even managed to drive himself to the Royal Hospital....!

Moral of story: Do not light cigarettes near your rear end if you have a big methane build-up!

But, lucky to survive. A guy right here in North Carolina in Feb this year, lighted a cigarette after drinking gasoline thinking it was beer. Exploded in flames! and unfortunately did not survive.

Moral of story : Do not light cigarettes after drinking high proof alcohol, you might become toast too!

Thanks Larry and Mel for reigniting humor. So is the raspberry nymph stuff 60 or 80 proof?

Omg leave it to Luce to leave the du,best but cutest joke hahhaha

Hellon, lol! Its about stuff people say when they press the "praise comment" button . When you praise someones comment on your poem you know how you have to send a message to the mods saying why the comment is praise worthy? Well a lot of people just say stuff to make the mods laugh and that is what they are sharing, :)

  • Hellon

Well that's what I thought originally but...I'm always so serious with my praised comments...I tell the mods why I think it's praise worthy ect...and what it meant to me because I remember a while ago a one liner comment was not considered praiseworthy no matter how the author of the poem felt it mattered....I did have a couple of comments I'd praised recently rejected so...bugger...the new trend is to tell a joke...yeah?

For example...this comment on Fukushima was rejected although I thought it was very worthy of my praise because...although it was not the longest comment I received in this poem...the reader was more accurate in their interpretation than others..

    Haridas at 2012-07-29

Beautifully written. The umbrellas and raincoats to protect against nuclear attacks are cleverly used words and to me show the helplessness of common citizens in today's world. The calamities to follow found reflection in the serpentine queue in front of the empty shop. Thoroughly enjoyed.

The story above I found when researching the full story of the kiwi incident was in this link:

    Nice thread, Larry.

aha, I heard it on the radio, thought it'd give the mods a bit of a giggle. It'll be nice to share them here for everyone else to see.

Could've been me, Hellon, though I'm not sure. I go through quite a few comments a day, approving and declining.
The comment you wanted praised was, in my opinion, right on the "hump" of worthy or unworthy of praise, and I would opt the latter (then, and now). My standard for praise-worthy comments is a bit strict, I suppose.
That being said, we do get sooooo many praise-worthy comments!
    Keep it up, guys.

  • Hellon

Well Jane...if it was you who rejected it I hope it had nothing to do with the fact that...at that point..you had also left a comment which I hadn't praised?

It wasn't that I didn't appreciate your comment and think it praiseworthy it was just that you had asked a few questions that I felt I should answer before I pushed the praise button...a series of events stopped me from answering your questions straight away and then the site started acting up and I was having problems staying logged in. When I finally got back Sybs had already praised your comment and you approved it yourself.

Larry gave me a giggle today with this one:

A rope went into a bar & ordered a drink.
The bartender snarled: "We don't serve your kind in here," and tossed him out the door.

The rope twisted himself into a tight knot & began frantically scraping himself against the brick building until strands were popping out everywhere, then went back into the bar and ordered again.

The bartender stared at him & said,
"Aren't you that rope I just threw out of here?"

The rope answered haughtily, "Sir, I'm a frayed knot."

Ok..I guess it's joke time so I will contribute...

When I lived in Korea I had this book that I left in the dunny (that's a toilet for non Australians) and it has just been posted back to me after four years...The title was...Visitors to my Dunny please read and contribute ! well I could take over this whole thread with the hilarious writes that I have here but just one for now..

A little old lady is in the lift of a posh department store...the door opens on the first floor and a very attractive blonde gets in she turns to the old lady and says..Giorgio Beverly hills $100 an ounce..

On the 5th floor another attractive young thing gets on...Channel #5$150 an ounce...

The old lady looks unimpressed and as she's leaving she farts and says...brousel sprouts...49c an pound!!!!

Hellon, I think Jane would be the last one to be insulted that a comment of hers wasn't praised... I doubt she even noticed.

Honestly, sometimes we have such a volume of praises that we just have to go with our gut, make a decision, and move onto the next one (after looking over the comment, of course). I've also accidentally declined praiseworthy comments before, but if I realize it I generally PM the person who praised it and ask them to do it again.

I started writing nonsense in the praise justification box a while ago. Once, when Britt was still a mod, she found one by me where I had paraphrased an article about the mating habits of octopuses.

OHMYGOSH I forgot about that, Sib.. that was hilarious!

  • silvershoes

I approved praise for my own comment? Lol. That's embarrassing... And I'm slightly confused about how it happened. I apologize for how bad that looks.

Sibs is right. I could care less if someone praises my comments or not. I'm glad you appreciated it though, and thank you for answering my questions.

I didn't think the comment you wanted praised deserved it; not to say it wasn't a nice comment! If you want to go ahead and praise it again, looks like Larry will approve it for ya!

  • Hellon

Actually...I didn't answer your questions and..that was the reason I never praised your comment straight away.

I thought Haridas'comment was praiseworthy because he got the fact that I had used umbrellas and raincoats as symbols/metaphors to say that...in the event of a nuclear disaster the thing this...the common people..that's you and me Jane...wouldn't stand a chance. He also got the fact that (and some questioned this also)..people who have lived through disasters..be they manmade or natural...know that supplies run out very quickly so...they form a queue...

^ I agree with hellon here.

Despite that mods should have standards for worthy comments, but also, no one can know the message behind a certain poem, as much as the writer him/herself.

So sometimes, even short comments with a deep analysis of certain symbols or meanings would be deeply appreciated by the poet, and only he/she can understand why it should be praised. Just like the above example.

    Just my opinion though...

I see your point, Hellon. It's a good comment, but I'm going to stick to my guns here and say it's still not up to my personal standards for "praise-worthy." I look for more than 1-2 aspects of a comment that make it an acceptable building block toward receiving a Praised Comment Award.
It's true that I'm human, and fallible, and sometimes I let comments slide under the bar when other times maybe I wouldn't.

Do you think this comment was praiseworthy?

  • silvershoes

    Did I write that comment?
Nope! I don't think it is.

Hellon, is it really that important to you that that comment didn't get praise?
Loads of comments don't get praised that subjectively deserve it.

  • Hellon

Well....it's on your own list of praised comments so I guess it's yours?

Yes....when I see comments like the above being approved then I do feel the importance of pointing out the fact that a comment which was a few lines longer and actually said something about the content of the poem being rejected then...hell yes...I think it's important...to me anyway.

Then there's these ...just so you know I'm not singling you out ...
