"they can burn down our flag as much as they like, for they could never burn our national spirit" -liss, myself.

does anybody have any ideas for both affirmative and negating sides? prefrably affirmative if you can, but negating points are very helpful in bumming the opposition out. any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

i personally think this is a very interesting moot.

    thanx guys, liss

flag burning is not aginst the law in the us, its looked down upon. And they are trying to make it aginst the law, but as of now its now. So there for who ever wants to burn our flag can I suppose. If they are not americans then it should not have as much meaning behind it then it should for us americans.

there is one positive reason why you should your burn your flag.

If your flag is tatterd and distroyed the proper disposal is to burn it.

Protesters burn it because they beilve the government is "tatterd and destroyed" .

on this website you will find what i said above:

My flag is old and ready to be retired. What should I do?
Section 8k of the Flag Code (see below) states, "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning." We recommend that you contact your local VFW Chapter and ask them for help properly disposing of your flag. And be sure to consider providing a small donation to them for their assistance. Or you can contact your local Elks Lodge (who created the idea of Flag Day, established officially by President Truman, himself a member of the Elks) or the American Legion. Some Boy Scout and Girl Scout troups also can provide this service.

"The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning."

Burning a flag in protest is not dignified. It is an act of defiance.

Flag burning is an act without speech and so should not have any connection with the first ammendment. Using that as an example I could burn down a school, government building or government officials under the first ammendment.

People burn flags because they unhappy with one person or half the government. When you burn a flag you burn your family, your town, your county, your favourite home grown personalities, inventions, way of life... you burn yourself.

People who burn flags in protest should burn themselves instead.

i don't agree with that! after all, burning a flag is just burning a flag. it's not like when u burn it your whole country or anything. I believe people have the right to burn flags to protest against something. i would GLADLY burn finlands flag if i could find one available anywhere. but the reason i would do it is just cuz i hate my country so much! argh. but yes, i think people have the right to burn their flag, and especially if they paid for it themselves so it's none of the other people business what they do with their own purchased flags. i know this sounds really retarded but that's the way i think. some people are probably totally against what i think and i'll accept that cuz i know people can have different views about things. it's just that i hate my country, and i'd gladly burn it's flag. whadda u guys think?
