"If you find a girl who reads, keep her close. When you find her up at 2 AM clutching a book to her chest and weeping, make her a cup of tea and hold her. You may lose her for a couple of hours but she will always come back to you. She'll talk as if the characters in the book are real, because for a while, they always are. Date a girl who reads because you deserve it. You deserve a girl who can give you the most colorful life imaginable. If you can only give her monotony, and stale hours and half-baked proposals, then you're better off alone. If you want the world and the worlds beyond it, date a girl who reads."

"If you can only give her monotony, and stale hours and half-baked proposals, then you're better off alone."

I'm not sure, but I feel like that part it borderline offensive. Mostly because it is so vague.

Other than that, it's a pretty good guideline.

    Depends what she reads.

If she wakes me up at 2am crying because her "british trains a-z 190-2010-" upset her.

I won't treasure her, I'd kick her out the bed.

Also, there are better ways to get a women to go to sleep than make a cup of tea, and yes I mean sex.

    My favorite part is the very last;
"Date a girl who reads because you deserve it. You deserve a girl who can give you the most colorful life imaginable. If you can only give her monotony, and stale hours and half-baked proposals, then you're better off alone. If you want the world and the worlds beyond it, date a girl who reads.

Or better yet, date a girl who writes."

    Goes out to all poets!

I like the idea of this, but figure it can go across the aisle to men as well. Basically, "People who love to read and learn and live in stories tend to be capable of complexity and imagination and passion. If you are like that, find another reader."

My fellow hardly ever reads novels. When he does, he reads them very slowly. I'm a "novel at all times" type of girl, so it's odd to me that he has more trouble getting into fiction. On the other hand, he'll take a textbook on physics, history, astronomy, philosophy, and read it straight through. I like my non-fiction as well, but I need it in small doses.

I am a Reader with a capital R, and I don't think I'd be overstepping by saying that reading fiction has largely shaped my opinions and personality. It's a huge part of my life. But I would never doubt my boyfriend's capacity for a complex inner life. He's one of the most interesting people I know. I will stand up for books forever, but really it comes down to a person's ability to be thoughtful, curious, and interested in life.

Well said sib! My boyfriend is the EXACT same way, sometimes he's more of a hopeless romantic than I am, and I know he doesn't read romance novels. He was just raised by awesome parents who are old fashion and taught him how to respect and treat a lady.

I however, will always be influenced by books and will admit, I want to live in one lol

I feel so sorry for myself...

    I rarely read.

I think the total number of arabic and english (novels) I have read is like 9 or 10... maybe less, too.

    :/

I am a voracious reader. Usually I have 4 - 5 books going at once (office, car, upstairs 'library', downstairs 'library', bedside). It ranges across travels, mysteries, sci-fi/fantasy, histories, psychology, non-fiction . . . .

Rosaura reads web sites & magazines constantly, leaving the latter marked for me to read also.

I recall a study that said women who read mindless romance novels have the most active sex lives.

Whoa, I eat books actually lol, I ate books until I published my own :D so I guess that has made quite an effect haha.

Lol that statement makes me want to read more Larry and see if its true. Hahah I can see why it would be. If your guy acts like the romance novel character, or you try to feel what that character is feeling.

Nema.. oyu published your own? That's awesome.

is it a novel? or poetry?

    what's it called?

Well, I used to be such a book junkie...
but then I got.................................a blackberry.. teehee

but when I read, man I read....
I read like, the world can be finishing around me and I am in the book. a few days ago, I read

    "The gift" by danielle steel

and I got so lost in the story, I finished the book in an hour or two.. it kept my mind off so many unworthy things....

you know, what's the best thing about reading tho,
it expands your vocabulary... it nurtures you, and best of all... you always walk around with a new story to tell...

whenever a conversation gets boring, you can always tell someone about a book you read... give life to the characters..

I don't know... people always tell me
I make a "good story teller".... but I mean, they are some books I just get so passionate about I wanna tell the whole world about them...

    Teehee
