So you want to publish

I have added this to the 'guys' thread by yaki

but I thought I would also open a new thread in case anybody has any questions

    There is a way

The following link takes you to Amazon Kindle self publishing

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_left_cn?ie=UTF8&nodeId=200554840

You can create and publish your work to the amazon kindle bookstore, all the info is on here that you need to get started. For those of you that do not know what a kindle is it is an E-book reader.

The only drawback is you cannot publish anything you have submitted to this site, so you would need to either remove and edit so it is different or start a new collection.

I will warn you, poetry doesn't sell by the masses so you will not be a millionaire over night.

They ask for your bank details, but don't worry this is just so they can pay your royalities to you, there is no fee to publish, they just take a cut if you sell anything.

Your cover and title will be crucial to make your book stand out.

It takes a little research but there are free kindle books that detail how to publish to kindle, including help with formatting etc. There is also a free download that shows how your book will look on Kindle.

Once I stop being a lazy git, I am going to submit a book. I have done 1 self help book on sales techniques which has been published but it is utter crud, (i wrote it in 1 night just to test this whole thing)

    it is here,
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/BECOME-BETTER-SALES-ADVISOR-ebook/dp/B0082Q4DN4/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1347179232&sr=1-1#_

DONT BUY IT! IT IS RUBBISH

just to show you that even a nutter like me can do it.

    good luck everyone

A group of us p&q members (maybe 8 members from memory) got together and self financed a book which we published. I never handled any of the printing, binding etc, but we never had to edit anything from our poems and...they were all already posted on this site. No....you are right Darren....you will not become a millionaire but....that wasn't our intention....we only printed a small amount and they were never sold to anyone else that I know of but...the achievement of having your work in print....bound in a book with some other very special people was reward enough for all invloved.

I just published my collection of poems. I'll wait and see how the formatting translates and if it is ok, I'll share.

    Awesome

You have gone a stage further than me, I don't mind sharing mine on here, but I need to educate myself a bit more first before I think of putting a book together.

    Well done mate

I've self published poems via Lulu.com...None have been sold except to myself,
I did this mainly to keep a record of my poetry in case anything happens to the site or I stop writing for whatever reason may occur.

    Thanks for posting this Darren...
    That's great Kevin about self-publishing a collection!

I got an account for Lulu a few months ago...I have a neighbor who self published her fiction story. But I'm thinking about it more and more....it would be a great way to actually have that full extensive copy of poems over the years or whatever period of time.

I could probably do with educating myself a bit more Darren, but the collection I posted is years old and I'm pretty sure it only has a handful of errors...which, I reserve the right to call "artistic expressions of language".

It'll be ready to view tomorrow methinks.
