My own inspiration

    Following on from Nema's post I would like to add
    my own, this is from the excellent 'ted hughes - Crow or songs from Crow'

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Crow Blacker than ever
    When God, disgusted with man,
    Turned towards heaven.
    And man, disgusted with God,
    Turned towards Eve,
    Things looked like falling apart.
    But Crow . . Crow
    Crow nailed them together,
    Nailing Heaven and earth together -
    So man cried, but with God's voice.
    And God bled, but with man's blood.
    Then heaven and earth creaked at the joint
    Which became gangrenous and stank -
    A horror beyond redemption.
    The agony did not diminish.
    Man could not be man nor God God.
    The agony
    Grew.
    Crow
    Grinned
    Crying: 'This is my Creation,'
    Flying the black flag of himself.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Very dark poetry expertly written.

    Ted Hughes is an interesting character... I feel traitorous to Sylvia Plath when I read his poetry and enjoy it.

    Yes Jane, there is tragedy behind this write, both his wife and lover killing themselves, one taking his 4 year old daughter with them.

    too sad

    and such a waste of life

    That's VERY dark! Thanks for sharing Darren :)

    P.S this is the first time I know that Assia Wevill, Hughes' lover also committed suicide in similar fashion to Plath. Whoa..

    Thanks nema

    TBH the whole book is very dark.

    I read the book several times before I found out about the man himself, Now I know where his darkness came from.

    I remember doing an 8 page essay for school about (mainly) Plath and (some) Hughes. It was miles too long for what we were supposed to be doing but Plath and her poems really interested me. I wish I could find it to have a read at it again. I think I vaguely remember reading this poem back then.

    I studied this book as part of my A levels at college, it was an eye opener that poetry could be 'interesting'

    Against the Wind
    by Bob Seger

    It seems like yesterday
    But it was long ago
    Janey was lovely, she was the queen of my nights
    There in the darkness with the radio playlng low
    And the secrets that we shared
    The mountains that we moved
    Caught like a wildfire out of control
    Till there was nothing left to burn and nothing left to prove

    And I remember what she said to me
    How she swore that it never would end
    I remember how she held me oh so tight
    Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then

    Against the wind
    We were runnin' against the wind
    We were young and strong, we were runnin'
    against the wind

    And the years rolled slowly past
    And I found myself alone
    Surrounded bv strangers I thought were my friends
    I found myself further and further from my home
    And I guess I lost my way
    There were oh so many roads
    I was living to run and running to live
    Never worried about paying or even how much I owed
    Moving eight miles a minute for months at a time
    Breaking all of the rules that wouldn't bend
    I began to find myself searchin'
    Searching for shelter again and again
    Against the wind
    A little something against the wind
    I found myself seeking shelter against the wind

    Well those drifters days are past me now
    I've got so much more to think about
    Deadlines and commitments
    What to leave in, what to leave out

    Against the wind
    I'm still runnin' against the wind
    Well I'm older now and still
    Against the wind
