Have Fun with this one - discover the true you

Though I am not a psychologist, I thought since Jane and Gaurav started talking about the personality types, one can have fun discovering who we truly are. So here is a fun thing to do.

So in Step 1: Read through these 16 Personality types (Carl Jung-Isabel Briggs-Meyers classification) and see where you seem to fit.

    http://www.personalitypage.com/high-level.html

Step 2 : Take a free Jung Typology personality test

    http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp
or you can pm me your favorite site and let me post it here for all of you and tell us what the test told you. :) Best to take the same test for all for standardization.
If you need to know what each of the 4 parameters here are really about, check this page out:
    http://www.humanmetrics.com/hr/you/personalitytype.aspx#Section_JungBasics

Yes, you may be surprised that the two (i.e who we think we are, and who we really are) may not always match.

It is not astrology, or rocket science....just an instrument based on psychological theories, so don't be offended if you discover something that you think you are not. Personality is always evolving, as you mature and grow older. :)

And Jane (or whoever feels more competent) , if you are a psychology major you may want to monitor, comment or even take over and run this "Game".

And anyone who thinks of making this more fun, feel free to use your innovation and add to the Game.
    ----------------------------
EDIT : So, thanks to Gaurav's pm and more links, I will make this more fun by adding :
Step 3: The Keirsey Temperament Sorter II (KTSA-II) is the most widely used personality instrument in the world. Don't worry it is still free. Here is the link to the test:
    http://www.keirsey.com/sorter/register.aspx

Dr. David Keirsey has identified mankind's four basic temperaments ....the Artisan, the Guardian, the Rational, and the Idealist. Learn more here: http://www.keirsey.com/4temps/overview_temperaments.asp

Might be best if everyone edited their own post and added the results of the Keirsey II in it after a separator.
We are not done yet, more to come...thanks to Gaurav's researched links.

Oh i love this! this was my result:

    ENFJ - The Giver

Popular and sensitive, with outstanding people skills. Externally focused, with real concern for how others think and feel. Usually dislike being alone. They see everything from the human angle, and dislike impersonal analysis. Very effective at managing people issues, and leading group discussions. Interested in serving others, and probably place the needs of others over their own needs.

Though it's supposedly a rare type, I always test the same as Gaurav - INFJ. Let's see:

-prefer outside life to be orderly and systematic, but...
-have a spontaneous and intuitive inner-life
-understand things intuitively (and usually accurately) without necessarily being able to verbalize why
    -sensitive to conflict
    -stubborn
    -selective about friendships
-have keen insights into the motivations of others
    -hold selves to high standards
-prefer independence over leading or following

    check, check, aaaand check.

I got ESFJ - The Caregiver

I've done one of these before but never really read results. Reading now, I disagree with a 'few' things, but some parts really are spot on, such as:

"With Extraverted Feeling dominating their personality, ESFJs are focused on reading other people. They have a strong need to be liked, and to be in control. They are extremely good at reading others, and often change their own manner to be more pleasing to whoever they're with at the moment. "

It also says I'm not shy about expressing my opinion... I think everyone here would agree lol.

In reading this it sounds pretty similar to a Gemini - people person, friendly and caring, but also manipulative and need to be in control.

"He or she might also be very controling, or overly sensitive, imagining bad intentions when there weren't any. "

So true - I hate that I assume bad intentions where none were there.

^^ But two individuals of the same type may not be identical in their behavior. Perhaps these personality types describe the general characteristics of INFJ individuals. But Two INFJ individuals could be radically different in their approach towards life or towards their tasks.

For example. Sibs, you could be an optimist. Although I will guess, you are an optimist at heart and 50% realistic and 50% pessimistic by your intelligence.

Where as I am totally pessimistic about humanity, as whole by intelligence. But I am a defensive pessimist in my approach, I prefer watching both sides before crossing the road- even on a one way street. If I am preparing to carry out an activity. I will mentally devise all possible outcomes, all possible hurdles and mentally assign solutions to each individual hurdle. Implementing a method to propagate maximum output. I observe enough before initiating a conversation or trusting anyone. And I am somewhat of an optimist at heart. Getting into hacker culture you learn, that if things can be done right once, then it shouldn't be done twice. =)

See the difference? ..And you come off as a socially warm person. A teacher has to be welcoming, naturally. She not only passes down her knowledge, but her wisdom as well. If you say that we share common traits, that would be surprising.

I am sure you are aware of what I am trying to explain. But I just had to point out the difference. I cant control the compelling urge :p

But we do share the common traits that you have mentioned.

    These tests are not accurate.

    Very cool! I am an

    ESFJ - The Caregiver

Warm-hearted, popular, and conscientious. Tend to put the needs of others over their own needs. Feel strong sense of responsibility and duty. Value traditions and security. Interested in serving others. Need positive reinforcement to feel good about themselves. Well-developed sense of space and function.

^^ Gaurav... I think you are more realistic than pessimistic.

Okay, Apparently, I'm a ISFJ - The nurturer

Though, I am not fully in agreeance with the following:

"ISFJs need positive feedback from others. In the absence of positive feedback, or in the face of criticism, the ISFJ gets discouraged, and may even become depressed."

    -- I can accept criticism. . .

^ Lu, One nice thing about INFJ personality type is that they do not like following or being bound to the per-ordained protocols of social conventions. Or in simple words - living the same life that society has designed for themselves, going round and round in loops. I personally seek something new to learn all the time.

Ugh, I cannot compose small posts. :P

Observing myself enough. I do not fall into the pessimist or realistic or optimistic category. I will not engage in a glass half empty - half full argument, because technically the glass will always be full. Half air - Half water (or any other substance). Problem solved once and for all. I enjoy eliminating problems.

I will explain myself better with a famous quote.

The Optimist Sees The Doughnut; The Pessimist The Hole!

    - Oscar Wilde

^ I will see the doughnut and the hole. And immediately start analyzing it. What are the ingredients?..why should the center hole be a circle?..why not a square?. . why not a rectangle or a hexagon? ...was the inventor shooting for symmetry?. .what must he have been thinking while making the doughnuts?. .could the taste be made better by experimenting with the ingredients?. .And I will, on the inside wish that I could spend sometime with all the inventors that I have read about, pick their brains. Learn. . . And then I will start devouring the delicious doughnut.

What am I . .a pessimist?. . a realist?. .or an optimist? . . .may be I could invent a new name for such a personality type?.. In the long run I'd rather be a pessimist than be an optimist. Although I'd like to cut myself out of the equation all together, since I've always been an observer.

I'll leave you with a beautiful quote. Very meaningful.

An optimist is a person who sees a green light everywhere, while a pessimist sees only the red stoplight... the truly wise person is colorblind.

    - Albert Schweitzer

I got ISTP this time but have done it before and think I got INTP. A lot of the questions I don't really know how to answer, could go either way so it's hard to nail down a definite type, although some similarities come through each time I guess

  • sibyllene

Ehhhh, I don't know if I'm an optimist. Or, maybe, I tend to try to be optimistic in my hopes and actions, but I think my natural state is one of suspicion and doubt.

I would agree, however, that very different people could somehow share a personality type. These types seem to refer to how people approach their feelings and their actions - the channels that these things go through, rather than the root substance that's doing the traveling. The shape of the river, rather than the water itself.

My turn to reveal myself, which I never will wish to do, but this test is too damn accurate in reading me. I guess I share the same persona as Ms. Sunshine, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Reagan, Clinton, Obama, Tony Blair, Gene Hackman & Sean Connery. Amusing!
    ENFJ - Extravert(67%) iNtuitive(12%) iNtuitive Feeling(38%) Judging(1%)

But, as a youngster, I was a shy, introverted young man till I crossed 21 maybe, and could have been an INFJ or even a INFP. See, I knew personalities change with age and worldly experience, though psychologists will tend to disagree.
Britt: Not to worry, I am a Gemini, but do not match the Astrological type in many respects, so I trust the personality tests more.
Gaurav: Love your quote and link. Thanks.

    -Perceptive, warm, genuinely caring, selfless
(sounds like a good recipe for what the girls want in people :)
-no desire to lead or control others, or vice-versa. They need space and time alone to evaluate the circumstances of their life against their value system, and are likely to respect other people's needs for the same.
-artists (strong affinity for aesthetics and beauty...I take it kind of picky/selective in their tastes...haha)
-Doers,/artisans, not laid back, using "hands-on" approach....good for you guys...your family/friends will love you for it.
    - creative...unusually gifted at creating and composing things which will strongly affect the senses.... both fit very well.
    - life is not easy for them, as they take life so seriously....every perfectionist does that, never to be satisfied with one's art.

Thanks for posting that for me. Yep, that's me. Nice of you to leave out the negative traits :)
I think I come off as the ENFP that I am in person more than online, at least these days. I've been a bit monotone and distant on pnq.

Best types for a relationship: INFJ, INFP, ENFJ, ENFP, ESFJ
Possible types for a relationship: ENTJ, ENTP, INTJ, INTP,ESFP, ISFP
Least likely types for a relationship: ISTJ, ESTJ, ISTP, ESTP, ISFJ

Oh, that one was totally clear for me. If I walk into a classroom, I will go swiftly for a back corner seat. I like being able to see everyone. If I sit in the front or middle, I just feel prickly the whole time.

  • Hellon

Well...it never mentioned a chair Sybs...that's just my way of thinking...if there's a chair I will most likely sit on it regardless of where it's situated but...it never asked that so...that's one of the questions I wanted to question lol!!!!

  • silvershoes

I sit in the back corner, preferably on the side of the room closest to the door. Won't be caught dead sitting in the middle or in front.

  • sibyllene

Exactly, Jane. Although I'd prefer being able to see the door, rather than have people walking in behind me. Maybe I'm just overly suspicious.

Hellon, clearly you are a DLTBCBOUA/OIQ. It stands for Doesn't Like To Be Classified Based On Unclear And/Or Illogical Questions. It's a somewhat rare group.

And I thought this was a personality test page....haha. I would like to definitely know what Larry, Mel, and all the others who were invited above, test as....will be fun to learn, and comment :)

Hellon, did you really test INTJ, or did you fake some answers?
INTJ - The Scientist . ??? Did you purposely flunk science in school? or did you not enjoy it? There is no mention of Art....whatsoever in an INTJ personna.
I have a feeling you answered the qns little differently, on purpose, to get this mismatched result. No wonder the MBTI refused to do matchmaking, however hard I try.

An INTJ is extremely Introvert, often aloof and reserved, spend a lot of time inside their own minds, and may have little interest in the other people's thoughts or feelings.
The only things I relate in here is your ability to chase details (minutia), unless you want to admit to this one too "...the INTJ may become obsessed with mindless repetitive, Sensate activities, such as over-drinking." (pardon my sense of humor please :)
Love to see what you see in the INTJ profile that reflect the real you.
And, I kind of agree with Sib above "Hellon, clearly you are a DLTBCBOUA/OIQ. It stands for Doesn't Like To Be Classified Based On Unclear And/Or Illogical Questions. It's a somewhat rare group." (No real offense please, just having some pun).

And I think you have a wonderful sense of "weird" humor, which the INTJ lacks, which most of us will agree to :)

(.......Now let us see who is next.. )

  • Hellon

I did say further up that it didn't sound like me but....I took the test twice with the same results so...who knows LMAO. I must admit....I hate questionaires as much as I hated science in school...some of the questions I feel would depend on the circumstances...what I mean is...I would be more inclined to give in to my family than I would to a work mate for example and....as I'm now retired I don't have any work collegues/desks to tidy etc so...a lot of the questions I only speculated on LMAO!!!

I quite like Sibs definition of who I am....haha!!!

I think most will agree though, that I'm not introverted in any way..I also blew up a test tube in school...removing my eyelashes and eyebrows so....definately not scientific. My conclusion....the questionaire sucks haha!!

  • Sherry Lynn

Congratulations on completing the Keirsey Temperament Sorter-II! Your results indicate that your personality type is that of

Idealists (NF's) are passionately concerned with personal growth and development. They strive to discover who they are and how they can become their best possible self -- and they want to help others make the journey. They are naturally drawn to working with people, and whether in education or counseling, in social services or personnel work, in journalism or the ministry, Idealists are gifted at helping others find their way in life, often inspiring them to grow as individuals and to fulfill their potentials.
Highly ethical in their actions, Idealists hold themselves to a strict standard of personal integrity. They must be true to themselves, and they can feel quite guilty when they are dishonest or insincere. They believe in giving of themselves to help others; they cherish a few warm, sensitive friendships, usually with persons with whom they can bond emotionally and spiritually, sharing their deepest feelings and their complex inner worlds.

Idealists are relatively rare, making up no more than 15 to 20 percent of the population. But their ability to inspire people with their enthusiasm and their idealism has given them influence far beyond their numbers.

Like the other Idealists, Champions are rather rare, say three or four percent of the population, but even more than the others they consider intense emotional experiences as being...
