    Bonnie Rait, GUILTY

Yeah baby, I've been drinking, and I shouldn't come by I know
But I found myself in trouble darling, and I had no place else to go
I got some whiskey from a bar man, got some cocaine from a friend
And I had to keep on moving, till I was back in your arms again

Well I'm guilty, yeah I'm guilty, and I'll be guilty for the rest of my life
How come I never do, what I'm supposed to do
Nothing that I try to do ever turns out right

Well you know how it is with me baby, you know I just can't stand myself
It takes a whole lot of medicine, darling for me to pretend that I'm somebody else.

Im sorry there is no whiskey there. But it is not necessary because Pink Floyd has always made me drunk.

I remember my dad used to sing a song about cigarettes and whiskey and wild wild women....not sure what came after that...must be a really old song though.

"For my dear mod larry.Im sorry there is no whiskey there. But it is not necessary because Pink Floyd has always made me drunk."

That's alright. Was Roger Waters ever sober? Well, maybe from alcohol.

Hellon: sounds like most Nashville songs I grew up with.
    For a modern take:

"Rain Is a Good Thing" by Luke Bryan

My daddy spent his life lookin' up at the sky
He'd cuss, kick the dust, sayin' son it's way too dry
It clouds up in the city, the weather man complains
But where I come from, rain is a good thing

Rain makes corn, corn makes whiskey
Whiskey makes my baby feel a little frisky
Back roads are boggin' up, my buddies pile up in my truck
We hunt our honeys down, we take 'em into town
Start washin' all our worries down the drain
    Rain is a good thing

Ain't nothin' like a kiss out back in the barn
Wringin' out our soakin' clothes, ridin' out a thunderstorm
When tin roof gets to talkin'; that's the best love we made
Yea where I come from, rain is a good thing

Farmer Johnson does a little dance
Creeks on the rise, roll up your pants
    Country girls, they wanna cuddle
Kids out playin' in a big mud puddle

    Rain is a good thing,
    rain is a good thing,
    rain is a good thing

All I can say is....Thank the lord I don't stay in Tennessee.....I probably would be tempted to slug down some whiskey if I did :)

    Brad Paisley - Whiskey Lullaby
    (feat. Alison Krauss)

She put him out like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette
She broke his heart, he spent his whole life tryin' to forget
We watched him drink his pain away a little at a time
But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind
    Until the night

    [1st Chorus]
He put that bottle to his head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away her memory
Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength he had to get up off his knees
We found him with his face down in the pillow
With a note that said I'll love her till I die
And when we buried him beneath the willow
The angels sang a whiskey lullaby

    (Sing lullaby)

The rumors flew but nobody knew how much she blamed herself
For years and years she tried to hide the whiskey on her breath
She finally drank her pain away a little at a time
But she never could get drunk enough to get him off her mind
    Until the night

    [2nd Chorus]
She put that bottle to her head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away his memory
Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength she had to get up off her knees
We found her with her face down in the pillow
Clinging to his picture for dear life
We laid her next to him beneath the willow
While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby

Colm....I'm surprised you didn't give The Wild Rover a plug haha!!!! It's one of those songs that you know most of the words but...sometimes the verses get mixed up/added to....I know we have our own Scottish version of it!

Carrie Underwood - Wine After Whiskey

Once upon a time our world was on fire and I loved to watch it burn
Wild and reckless, never any limits, guess I had a lot to learn
Cause fire turns to ember, embers to ashes that blow away too soon

    [Chorus]
Now everything's after you is like having wine after whiskey
It went from do anything for you babe to you don't even miss me
Once you've tasted a love that strong you can't go back
And you can't settle on anything less
And that's what gets me. It's like having wine after whiskey

Looking back I guess it was really for the best, still you're something that I crave
Even though I know it was right to let you go. You're a habit hard to break
I got used to being high and nothing that I try seems good enough right now

    [Chorus]
It's also watered down like having wine after whiskey
It went from do anything for you babe to you don't even miss me
Once you've tasted a love that strong
You can't go back and you can't settle on anything less
And that's what gets me. It's like having wine after whiskey

    [Outro]
Once you've tasted a love that strong you can't go back
And you can't settle on anything less
And that's what gets me. It's like having wine after whiskey

Whiskey For My Men, Beer For My Horses
    Toby Keith with Willie Nelson

Well a man come on the 6 o'clock news
Said somebody's been shot, somebody's been abused
    Somebody blew up a building
    Somebody stole a car
    Somebody got away
Somebody didn't get too far yeah
    They didn't get too far

Grandpappy told my pappy, back in my day, son
A man had to answer for the wicked that he done
Take all the rope in Texas
Find a tall oak tree, round up all of them bad boys
Hang them high in the street for all the people to see that

Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we'll sing a victory tune
We'll all meet back at the local saloon
We'll raise up our glasses against evil forces
Singing whiskey for my men, beer for my horses

We got too many gangsters doing dirty deeds
We've got too much corruption, and crime in the streets
It's time the long arm of the law put a few more in the ground
Send 'em all to their maker and he'll settle 'em down
You can bet he'll set 'em down 'cause

Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we'll sing a victory tune
We'll all meet back at the local saloon
We'll raise up our glasses against evil forces
Singing whiskey for my men, beer for my horses

Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we'll sing a victory tune
We'll all meet back at the local saloon
We'll raise up our glasses against evil forces
Singing whiskey for my men, beer for my horses

David Allan Coe-You Never Even Called Me By My Name

    RECITATION:
WELL, A FRIEND OF MINE NAMED STEVE GOODMAN WROTE THAT SONG
AND HE TOLD ME IT WAS THE PERFECT COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG
I WROTE HIM BACK A LETTER AND I TOLD HIM IT WAS NOT THE PERFECT COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG BECAUSE HE HADN'T SAID ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT MAMA,
    OR TRAINS,
    OR TRUCKS,
    OR PRISON,
    OR GETTING' DRUNK
WELL HE SAT DOWN AND WROTE ANOTHER VERSE TO THE SONG
AND HE SENT IT TO ME,
    AND AFTER READING IT,
I REALIZED THAT MY FRIEND HAD WRITTEN THE PERFECT
    COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG
AND I FELT OBLIGED TO INCLUDE IT ON THIS ALBUM
THE LAST VERSE GOES LIKE THIS HERE:

WELL, I WAS DRUNK THE DAY MY MOM GOT OUT OF PRISON
AND I WENT TO PICK HER UP IN THE RAIN
BUT BEFORE I COULD GET TO THE STATION IN MY PICKUP TRUCK
SHE GOT RUN NED OVER BY A DAMNED OLD TRAIN

    CHORUS:
AND I'LL HANG AROUND AS LONG AS YOU WILL LET ME
AND I NEVER MINDED STANDIN' IN THE RAIN
NO, A' YOU DON'T HAVE TO CALL ME DARLIN', DARLIN'
    YOU NEVER EVEN CALL ME
WELL I WONDER WHY YOU DON'T CALL ME
WHY DON'T YOU EVER CALL ME BY MY NAME
