Andrea I don't think anyone can ever say you're cliquey. You comment on more poems than anyone I know and they're all for people I usually haven't ever seen before lol. You're all over the place woman, you don't count as cliquey!

I have only been writing poetry for nearly 4 months now,

So I am thankful for those who have commented on mine giving me constructive feedback,

Maples is one of those, Chelsey and Ben also, (Ben you have 8 months on me fella)

EDIT 1**also I would have to mention Karla, Ingrid and Connie, three exceptional poets.

EDIT 2** and Meme, challenging me with some new forms to try

Hahaha Id rather take your time instead of money any day Ben ;) spends waayyyyy better, although we would need money to go to a Bears game. Just sayin! Lol

Andrea, this topic excludes you! Someone creates an account today and you find their poetry and comment 4 hours later. Its amazing!! You're my freak and I adore your non cliquey-ness bahah

You're commenting because you want to repay me, not because you stumbled upon my poem somehow and were struck by it and it gave you a meaningful response.

    ^ I love you, Jane. :$

    - That's a nice thread. When it comes to me, I do like Andrea said. If a poem touches me, I comment. If it doesn't, I overlook it.

With respect to reading poems, I read all new poems of KR, MM, FOP, LTFR, FS, RH, TC.... and I try to always nominate from outside Kite Runners.

And... I rarely say "thank you because you commented" unless the comment has something that needs a PM... like when Jane showed me a link to a poem in one of her comments... so I told her Thank You :P (I hope this didn't bother you, Jane hehe. I don't do this often.)

    -

'Cliquey' ? I never heard of this word :$

But I guess you meant clubs and friends being alone.... It's natural IMO.... But in here, we can always talk outside clubs!! :)

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha....... ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Oh mercy yes yes yes! ok Ive got the visual now... ha ha

yes, I actually do that.... My poor Hubby hates it when I read poetry... I do it often so he has learned to tune me out... He rolls his eyeballs alot because I do have verbal outbreaks after I read a poem or during a poem! ha ha ha

  • Decayed

I pictured more of a nibbling on fingers... ever seen Role Models? When the kid is like "mmm chicken fingers, I'm gonna run a train on these chicken fingers" and does this weird thing with his hands? Thats the first thing that came to mind, bahah.

  • Blissful

I totally get the image you are trying to portray but I think "nibble" is the wrong word o.o

I think that if a well-known person writes a poem and a unknown person writes the same poem, the poem on the well-known persons page will have a much better chance of getting nominated/commented on. Is this due to cliques, not sure, its more due to the fact that people read their favourites more often, its human nature, everybody has tastes. I'm sure it happens that people comment and nominate in the hope of people returning the favour (I did with comments when I started), but most of the time the poem speaks for itself. Sometimes certain poets/types of poems/clubs go through purple patches of 'popularity' or recognition, I guess it could be called cliquey but I think its probably natural in any walk of life.

YES BLISS IS THE STAR HERE.

we should totally do another round of vocaroo,
many people are spitting gorgeous new pieces :D

I loved putting voices to poetry. Plus, poets read their poems the way they intended it to be read and I love hearing that. I also liked it when others read different poet's poems in their own style.

Hey Darren: I have full sympathies for your concern, this cliquey thingy! A new word for me too. $
I used to comment a lot, (90% in depth and good quality) and spend a lot of my personal valuable time doing it ....several hours a week (when I could have done better things in life, including spending more time with my son or reading), but only a few ever bothered to comment back. So, instead of getting offended by the poor reciprocation and the club mentality, I learnt to enjoy reading poems without commenting, and spending more energy debating on the main boards.

Yes, regardless of who says what, the people who spend a good deal of time appreciating poems of others, by leaving deserving comments selflessly, do spread goodwill. I myself sincerely appreciate their effort, and would always reciprocate their gesture and their time in kind......

No you are the winner, a kind hearted person, just do not be disheartened. Continue to spread your goodwill, without expecting reward.

"Nibbling on a giggling." This is fantastic.

I'm a terrible commenter. Not that I'm awful when I comment, it's just that I hardly every do it anymore (unless it's for a contest, which I've done quite a few of). This is my apology at large for all the beautiful people who comment on my poems, only to wait mournfully for a response, while a tumbleweed blows in the background.

Sometimes I thank people for their comments, when they are especially apt or touching. Jane, I'm going to start thanking you in a PM every time you comment me : )

Darren and Ben....you have both been members on here since June and both of you also have a fair amount of comments and votes on your poems. You are also both club members and a lot of these comments/votes come from your club members so...couldn't that also be considered clicky/clique?

  • A lonely soul

Haha! Did I convert not 1 (but perhaps 2 maybe 3 mods\wink)..... Sweet! Wait till I am done brainwashing you all, you might forget your religion! and become converts to mine......

"Dr. Google", all the way! .....don't believe in half-truths, religion, preachers, or hearsay....seek your own wisdom/truth the Google way!
(double bent back bow to you all nice folks :)

(Yikes! Hellon beat me to the post button by a few secs)

  • Darren

Hellon, if i hadn't have joined a club i would have about 10 comments. Which means i would have felt isolated and jacked this site in. The cliquey i was asking about was more weekly competition based rather than comments, that was the point, that is what i heard, i should have made that clearer in my first post.

  • Hellon

Well Darren..I could answer both ways to your original post...but just thought I'd point out the obvious....if you're in a club you will get more comments/votes I think. As a non club member you just have look at mine..having said that...no one who leave comments on my poems are obligated to do so so....I think I can appreciate them more than a person who is a club member for.....they have nothing to gain...they just like my work I guess? I've been a member of clubs before...some clubs encourage you to leave a comment on three poems that are listed by your club members before you post a poem of your own...maybe that's why some members look better on the score board than others ..I'm not saying all clubs do this...it was just something I totally disagree with and I'm still that way inclined. You comment on the members of your club...they comment back...nicelynicely...couple of lines...does it make everyone happy?

Sorry typing this really fast...forgive my errors...time to Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • sibyllene

I was thinking about this more, and realized that I probably get more comments from people -outside- my club than those inside. To be fair, we only have a small core group of about 6 people, so there's less of an opportunity, but apart from that I think we're a more socially bonded club than a poem-intensive club (those of you who are ex Clubbies know that we can be a little absent sometimes...) Of course, when my club DOES comment, the comments tend to be very valuable, and I maintain that they are some of the best writers on the site.

Just an alternative perspective that I thought was kind of interesting.

  • Hellon

That was one of the things I liked about my time in The Club....you guys very seldom comment on each others poems so there was never any false ego stroking going on.

Then there was the pirate talk and...the story making OMG!

  • sibyllene

Well, I won't say there isn't any ego-stroking... we compliment each other on our attractiveness all the time. ; )

  • silvershoes

Yeah, I think our ego-stroking goes above and beyond poetry. Sure, we also tell each other that we're the master poets of the site, but usually it's "you're the sexiest," "no, you're the sexiest," "no, you are," "no, I love you more," "no, you are the sunshine of my life," "no, you are the moonlight of my life, and the sunshine, and all things good, "coochie coo, who's the coolest, bestest person on the site? You are... you are..."
