I think that as ridiculous as it may sound it might help to add a definition? I couldn't necessarily tell what you mean by "language".. but maybe that's just me. (Yes, I do get what the word itself means, but just saying that a definition would be helpful)

Well I don't think anything will be changed
maybe only a bit more clear for us as people who see results but the judges will put in these ratings the same way they choose a poem now

so nothing would change at all in my opinion

Edit:and people will disagree again but in a new way

lets say a judge gave 4/5 in creativity
some who don't like it would say it didn't deserve that it isn't creative.
see same thing but in a new way

    I agree with Jenni,

    Someone open a new thread...

This is a congratulation thread and my opinion all of the poems deserved the win.

    Congrats everyone!

It is, Jenni. That's why we should brain storm on another thread, so that we could state, define and mention all we can regarding the judging process.

    Edit---
If anyone has another idea which they think is better, I'm all for it.

Max, actually I think it will improve things, since other things will be in consideration in place of the judges' individual and different tastes. Plus, it'll set standards for all poems to be judged on, which should be fair. For example, a judge might not like the message or the topic of a certain poem but still score it according to it's value as a written piece.

Yeah I think you have a point there
but well either it will improve things or not there is no bad in trying something new once in a while

I have made another thread for suggestions.
Let's end our talk in here :P

Max, this isn't an attack against you. I have nothing against you at all. You can go to the comments on a poem of mine called "Broken Rib" and see what I told Abed when he told me the same thing, I encouraged him to talk it openly on here, since I neither nominated my own piece nor judged it and I meant it.

That's a mistake, Norhan. One shouldn't come here. They should comment on the poem.

I remember about that comment. Yes. I didn't like it as a winner because there were better poems back then (IMO), and it was too short, and I didn't get enough... Anyway, till now, didn't change my opinion about it though I have grown as a poet in mind and skills. But... I shouldn't have said this infront of all PnQers. This should be done on your poem.

It should if you have a problem with it, but if you have a problem with it winning in general or due to there being other better poems then comming to me wouldn't solve anything because I neither nominated it nor judged it so I don't have an answer for you. I only wrote it. Hence, you should have discussed it here. That's the difference.

Huh... Okay, I nominated the poem and it's a winner.

I really don't see what the problem is with the poem.
It has imagery, it has a twist, it makes people think, it's a simple poem yet that holds emotion. As stated by people has no grammar errors.

What else is a poem supposed to have in your opinion to be on the front page? ( to those in disagreeance )

And I definitely don't need to know who those people are. They won't add anything to this 'acclaimed' problem if they continue hiding and chatting behind closed doors.

    ^^
I've lost count of the amount of times I've made suggestions or expressed my displeasure at the contest, has anything ever really been done about it, not much, last I remember I asked should swearing poems be allowed on the front page (didn't get an answer), should the computer break tiebreakers, what was the story with different number of judges every week... Why should I keep coming back here every week when potential change it seems will not be looked into.

I'm going over to the suggestions thread. These pop up every once in a while, lets hope some good will come out of it this time, maybe if it does people might not lose all faith in the contest.

Anyway, Nor. That is past now. And I'm not gonna' change my mind.

I don't even know why you brought this up. This thing is different. 3+ people came here and started saying that a poem has mistakes, etc... when it didn't. And they started talking about standards, when previous front page winners also lacked the standards.

Everlasting, you have the right to use your nomination points as you wish and nominate whatever you think worthy. You've earned it. It's judges I'm concerned about, or the reaspickiest they pick the winners according to.

Abed, I merely wanted to show that it's normal to disagree with a winning poem and that it should be encouraged. Yes, even on the main boards and even if it had no mistakes.

Judges been judging the same way since they started their term, relying on the same principles, the ones they relied on when picking the poems this past week...and no body objected ? until now
    ^^^^

Actually I sent a pm to one of the mods regarding the new judges.. voicing my concern about the choices....I didn't get a reply so that's why I brought it here.

If someone wants to object on someone else's poem going to front page, please start by objecting on your own work.

    ^^^^^

This I have done also. A poem of mine won a while back and I thought another should have been given my place. (The member's name was Somma at the time although he's changed it and I can't remember the new name)...I also brought that to the main boards for discussion.

I am on my phone, so excuse any errors. I just wanted to offer a few modly points. 1. Changing number of judges. For this.past term, we have had five judges scheduled, but decided to not search for subs unless the number was.in danger of.dropping below 3. It was.just getting way too hard to wrangle judges last minute, and there were always issues. I believe Larry posted a thread about this a month or two ago. 2. Swearing poems: any poems that are (or should have been) posted in the explicit section aren't eligible. This is from.Janis. 3. If you have questions or concerns about the contest, write to us. I swear im not too.scary.... am I, Britt? I'll write more later with my personal opinions once I am on a compy again.

The other problem is we don't have judges that are qualified to judge... and I'm happy to include myself in there...

We have poets that have been on here for 5 minutes, all of a sudden they are judges. I'm not blaming anybody or pointing any fingers but that's a fact. In many instances the mods have no choice but to elect them as there are no alternatives.. Nobody wants to be a judge. As I've said before its bloody hard work. Limit the number of nominations, limit it to once a month and that may help..

I know I won't put my hand up again under the current system I can't afford the time

Nor made a good point about guidelines for judges to work to, maybe incorporate that as well

Oops, I meant to respond to that in the other thread. Shall we boost it over there?
