Quick Writing Exercise Part II!

Now, take one of your answers (white sounds like doves flying, happiness is fleecy) and incorporate it into a poem to post here.

You can change your wording around a bit.

People who didn't answer in the first post can still participate. Just be creative with your associations!

For those who missed the last post:

    1. What do birthdays smell like?
    2. What does purple taste like?
    3. What kind of music would stars sing?
    4. What texture is most like happiness?
    5. What flower is most like love?
    6. What weather would your mood be?
    7. What does white sound like?

    ....and why?

    Lillies of the Nile

Lillies of the Nile I answered,
eating dulce de leche as we sat together on the roof,
investigating the stars singing Clair de Lune
    and whispering to each other.

    He touched my woolen sweater,
bringing me to life and death as if
we could change the color of our skins,
    our perfect shaped tears.
but it was a white night when we lost
the pleasures of being just ourselves.

    I used to be sunny.
Can't find where I lost my sunburned hope.
    Where are we?
    Are you listening to me?

Let the past open the eyes of this dead woman.

Wow. That was awesome. Very clever. Is it ok to focus on one concept within one poem only?

I'll definitely be doing this later

    Cotton Escape
    By maple Tree

She is the breeze of a tropical
    midnight, drenched in rain drops,
    drowning from yesterdays
    sunset, eyes become fixed
    on highs and lows
    of a horizon's melody.

    Lights of a thousand
    wishes, engulf her
    spirited cotton
    shadow, becoming
    one with the sky,
    hearing white
    sounds of doves flying....

    Nice, guys!

Yeah, you can use as many associations as you want. I was just thinking one, but then Karla managed to use all of hers. : )

Sibs: Can we post our poems or do you want us to wait? Is there a part 3 to this exercise?

  • sibyllene

Nah, go ahead and post them. We're keeping it casual, baby.

    I don't know about a part three. We'll see!

    Chi

Beyond white walls wild winds flail
    wrought iron beams about,
    further breaking burnt bridges.
    Rage irradiates from rioting citizens
    shouting in streets shutting down
city lights and mowing riot police
    down with molotov cocktails.
    Upwind with tomohawk mocktails,
    lightening shocks flailing iron rails.

    Beyond white walls, bridges burn,
bright white brides of agony ride
right into tides pushing tightly into
    nooks nicking licking flames
    flickering, fizzling, popping
    as the storm quiets down.

    Beyond white walls
    lie questions directed at authority.
    Beyond white walls
people are in pain and nobody acts.
    Beyond white walls
is an uncontrolled energy waiting to explode.
But in the eye of the storm
    rests all of the power.

    Purple rain

    Purple rain, heavenly sent
sweet music to a dead spirit
    would you be the one
    to show a path?

    Lightening strikes
    ripped up a tranquil heart
    but, there wasn't a medic
    to patch it back up

    A singed soul, trapped
    in a cosmic storm
    searching for that
    elusive ambrosia

    Hoping, some day
a second Sun would rise again
    from the deep pits
    of an unmarked grave

    Happiness is like wood shavings
    from dross in sculpting:
it occurs as a by product
    of doing something important.

    Seeking happiness is like
    tasting chiffon spun cream:
    so attractive, smells so sweet
    but melts away threadbare.

This looks like fun, here is my attempt..

    The thought counts

No flower is most like love
    than the thought of you
to remember when I was born.

    If the stars could sing,
    instead, they'd serenade my day,
since they can't, a simple ice cream
on a rainy night and the taste
of a purple grape in an empty room
are enough to make this day
smell like cake all over the face,
than the presence of a man
    who has forgotten
    his girlfriend's birthday.

    Lucero

    ---------------------

    My answers:

    1. Cake all over the face.
    2.Grapes
    3. Serenades..
    4. Ice cream... :-s
    5. None
    6. Rainy
    7. White sounds like an empty room because empty rooms are peaceful to some degree.

What's next Sibs? Are you going to give some comments/critique on the rest of us

    Enjoyed everyone's work. Thanks.
