Well.....I have some concerns????

It's racist, yes, and I'm worried the color scheme is the underlying cause of PnQ's continual clash of culture and diversity. How can we respect each other if the color scheme pays zero tribute to any skin color except for a fair Caucasian with minimal tannage?
Either we incorporate all available skin tones into the layout or we abandon skin tones altogether.

I like the green suggestion, maybe with autumn hues. The color scheme could be seasonal. Some widgets would be nice. A couple bunnies and a deer. Interactive? Even better.

Nana and Abby, if you're not with us, you're against us. I had hoped this thread wouldn't turn into a needless argument, but I'm getting a little bit heated over the lack of care for color appropriateness on PnQ.

Although, I must say I am a LITTLE intrigued by the animal avatar option, actually, the more I think about it.

I've been going through such a depression with my poetry lately, that having to feed this virtual animal might help with the ol' writers block. I mean, check out my latest poem for goodness sake. I actually think it is GOOD. This is what has happened to poetry here. So... I am all for creating any incentives to write it, like feeding virtual animals/watering virtual gardens/furnishing virtual houses/etc... as long as it's only on your personal profile.

Let's just not get too crazy with butterflies and everything.

I assume, Jane, you're laughing your ass off. Really, the color scheme does not actually match ANY human on this planet any more than Homer Simpson yellow.

  • Sunshine

Lol if that was true, then my whole farm has rottened, I've not written for a while, until today.

HOWEVER eemm Jane makes me feel bad, well why not have ALL the world's flags scattered ALL around the website XD less hard feelings :P and people will focus more and you know..get em excited

    edit:

Let's just not get too crazy with butterflies, though.

ya ya..I agree, I'd like to see some cows though, Inspiring

  • silvershoes

Butterflies might be a bit much, I agree. This is an adult community; we don't want poets from other sites to not take us seriously.

    The flag idea isn't bad.

  • nouriguess

Of course, it's good, Abby. It's inspired by me.

Whenever the winners are announced, I'll nominate it. Want to see something so refreshing on the front page for a change.

    Butterflies win. I want butterflies.

  • sibyllene

"Really, the color scheme does not actually match ANY human on this planet any more than Homer Simpson yellow."

Hey, I happen to be a very pale, Irish pink. I feel pretty well represented. I'm just worried about everyone else.

"Whenever the winners are announced, I'll nominate it. Want to see something so refreshing on the front page for a change."

Er, Poetess... I don't think you'll be able to nominate that one anytime soon...

  • nouriguess

PnQ just disrespected my Sibs... that's just NOT right.

    Edited: Why?

  • Sunshine

Irish pink, proud ? you selfish woman, I want the scheme changed right now

  • sibyllene

Because of the section it's in. Explicit poems can't win, I'm afraid.

People, new ideas are great, but don't forget to vote.

  • Larry Chamberlin

Pink is a stereotype. No one is actually pink unless they are sunburned.

    I want Dragons and Daleks

  • Maple Tree

I agree there are more pressing issues to bring to Janis's absent table... but I have to admit talking about color scheme's is a nice change of pace to talk about...

  • silvershoes

See, this is exactly what I'm talking about. People like Sibs are letting the color scheme influence their sense of authority because it perfectly represents their rosy, Irish skin (or alternate heritage with similar tone). If this mindset can impact Sib, it can impact anyone. We could be entering an age of oppression when oppressors can't control an intrinsic feeling of superiority due to color representation.

  • abracadabra

    Et tu, Larry? WTF.

Edit: I agree that this is a nice discussion, and I'm happy it's generated so much enthusiasm. It's just the amount of priority and furious support that it's being given that is surprising me.

  • sibyllene

I don't know, I'm pretty pink... or maybe peach, with cool undertones.

But that's the problem, Jane. I want to feel better than everyone else because of my intelligence and creative skills, not because of my skin color. I want a site that will keep my unwarranted feelings of physical superiority in check.

Also to Noura: I don't want to be that person, but I noticed you haven't even commented on Abby's new poem yet. You weren't going to nominate it without commenting, were you?

  • silvershoes

Ugh Noura, please tell me Sibs is wrong ^
    This is very disappointing...
Or maybe I'm depressed because the colors suck and they're affecting my ability to understand others.

  • Sunshine

Favourtism again, because she's hher friend, she wants to blindly nominate..

  • sibyllene

I don't want to say that, exactly, but it doesn't really set a good example. You know?

  • Sunshine

AND don't tell me it's a coincidence that your names as MODs are BLUE and the mod position is written in RED. reminds me of the american flag. don't play innocent

  • silvershoes

Sibs, exactly. You are superior in most ways, but the colors might be muddling your sense of self worth, and therefore your approach to PnQ as a whole.

Nana, I've also noticed the red and blue lettering against a white background that's associated with mods. It embarrasses me how obvious it is that these colors were chosen intentionally to represent the American flag! Anyone who claims they haven't noticed is flat out lying.

I can't talk about this anymore. It's very upsetting.

    Please cast your votes.

  • sibyllene

Well, lots of countries have those colors in their flags. I can't think of any right off the top of my head, but, yeah. It's something we'd have to consider.

  • Sunshine

    GOOD. -_-

  • nouriguess

Hey, I'm hurt. I have commented on Abby's latest as required. She hasn't returned the favor, though.

    Why can't explicit poems win?

So... when some Arabs won the contest once or twice, you called the judges names. Now, we have no right to complain, ha?

    WHERE'S HELLON!?

  • Sunshine

Because young readers who are not even members of this website might read explicit poems on our front page and get spoiled.

is that what you want us to be presented by ?

and also because Janis came up with that...

why do you keep complaining anyway ? you do nothing usefull around here, just complain complain complain. ?!?!?!?!?!?! ?CAPSLOCK

  • silvershoes

Some people might claim complaining is useful in itself.

  • Larry Chamberlin

For one thing, you're not old enough to nominate it.

  • Sunshine

So... when some Arabs won the contest once or twice, you called the judges names. Now, we have no right to complain, ha?

    ^
you sound just as any other racist person, what are you trying to do here ? split us into 2 teams again ? arabs bla bla bla, suit yourself.

stop nagging, don't force me to say something I'd get penalized for.

you need a husband and a bed. it will shut your complain button off.

  • nouriguess

Oh, God. Believe me, young people know better than us. As if I'm old enough to say that. Ok.

Complaining is good, soothes my itch.

    Edited: WHAT.

Larry, I am 17, I am independent and here in Syria, I'm allowed to drink! We don't have rules or age limits anyway because we think drinking is cool.

Nana is bullying me, ya'll. Mods, please, edit her post and penalize her!

Did I really just read that? Ladies... ladies... let's stay on point. Or maybe this is the point? See what the colors are doing here!?

  • Sunshine

Jane, are you defending her because she is your club memeber, is that what you're trying to do ?
don't even try convince anyone that it's not.

Ya noura, because you have like two mods in your club, playing all smart and mature, seeking a mod position aren't you
