Can poets and song writers find harmony?

I am going to answer your question with another question:

Can astronomers and astrologers find harmony?

  • Larry Chamberlin

Karla, they will both find it 61 miles Southwest of Kennedy Space Center on Saturday 2 February 2013.

The 10th annual Harmony Star Field Festival

Letting my mind really sink into this question Michael. I wonder if occasionally the problem is they share a love but not a theory. Learning then splits the two people into their seperate paths.

Michael here is just trying to say that he doesn't think democrats and republicans can ever be friends.

  • Kevin

Speak about the state of things in America and Britain
politically all you like Jordan. We both know there is
a bigger picture going on here. Globally, for centuries
zealous minded individuals have tried to push divides.

Germany is a good example of what you are meaning. Though
evidence suggests there were dozens of ways it might have
transpired in a different way, all in all. In any case you try
fact checking your assertions Jordan, especially when you know I
understand the bigger issues. Speaking more broadly I'd want
confirmation from a reliable source before I said the kinds of
kooky things you tend to in discussions like this one. Also try educational materials like dvd's and heck, even youtube can
demonstrate exactly what I'm talking about.

"Letting my mind really sink into this question Michael. I wonder if occasionally the problem is they share a love but not a theory. Learning then splits the two people into their seperate paths."

My Great great grandfather was said to have been taught by the same school teacher that taught the first republican president "Abraham Lincoln ". Lincoln had a theory that race, nor creed should separate the paths of the north and the south. My great grandfather fought to preserve the union ,but latter married a rebel. The theory 'united we stand divided we fall" latter even inspired a democrat to amend our constitution to allow women to vote . The path to prosperity was built by the minorities , but my great great grandfather had shares in the railroads which made him a little more equal than many of his descendents that worked for the railroad . The democrats that got their ass kicked in the civil war had to help pay for that war . American's have a love of labor and management but the GOP believes they built America and labor is just a necessary evil. They seem to dislike any one that is not an uncle tom or a peasant that adores their boss. The 47% that played a major role in defeating that last GOP candidate

Something tells me, Kevin, that you'll never understand how hurt my feelings were after I came and read what you had to say. Do you think, Kevin, that you can just go around and tell people any old thing you like? I don't know why you'd say that DVDs are the answer to my problems, but if you feel that you must be so low and condescend to that level, then I will decree you the king of trolls with great pride.

This thread confuses me a bit (duhrr), probably because I haven't
read all of it, but I did want to step in quickly before
opposite sides (Kevin and Jordan) escalate and are taken a
little too far. It seems to me there is a minor misunderstanding that
lies between you two, maybe because you're from different countries.
So think before you post. That's all I'm saying, boys ;)

The song's Scots title may be translated into English literally as "old long since", or more idiomatically, "long long ago", "days gone by" or "old times". Consequently "For auld lang syne", as it appears in the first line of the chorus, might be loosely translated as "for (the sake of) old times".
ROMNEY: I -- I think interesting the president just said something which -- which is that on the day after the attack he went into the Rose Garden and said that this was an act of terror.
    OBAMA: That's what I said.
ROMNEY: You said in the Rose Garden the day after the attack, it was an act of terror.
It was not a spontaneous demonstration, is that what you're saying?
OBAMA: Please proceed governor. (that was a ninja moment for Barack!)
ROMNEY: I want to make sure we get that for the record because it took the president 14 days before he called the attack in Benghazi an act of terror. (Governor proceeding to put foot in mouth....)
    OBAMA: Get the transcript.

I am a little confused also . Is anyone here familiar with Constitutional Law Godwin's Law or Murphy's Law
I think astrology, Florida , Ohio, moderation and acts of terror are all relevant to this topic and the problems the president congress and the Senate will face while trying to pass or pay bills

    Lol well done Larry
I would have to say that Jordan translated for me well
If he had not I would have referred PQ discussion fans to this youtube lmao

I just want to add that Jordan was probably referring to elected officials and I don't want Britt and Chelsey to think they cannot be friends with those of us that lean a little left sometimes. True poets do not build boundries. We are a happy family, are we not?

    1. Legend has it the the first Republican POTUS was self educated and not dependent on any government assistance . My local research has Lincoln his sister and at least one of my Great Great Grand parents learning their ABC's among other lessons in a dirt floor cabin in KY

    The Village Atheist

"Ye young debaters over the doctrine
    Of the soul's immortality,
I who lie here was the village atheist,
Talkative, contentious, versed in the arguments
    Of the infidels.
    But through a long sickness
    Coughing myself to death
I read the Upanishads and the poetry of Jesus.
And they lighted a torch of hope and intuition
    And desire which the Shadow,
Leading me swiftly through the caverns of darkness,
    Could not extinguish.
Listen to me, ye who live in the senses
And think through the senses only:
    Immortality is not a gift,
    Immortality is an achievement;
And only those who strive mightily
    Shall possess it."

Just curious, what was the penalty box? A silent area to meditate on your wrong doings? No idea what form of punishment it was. Can someone clarify? So what do you do now, when it is gone?

I was faultering on the interpretation of the ^^ poem, by Edgar Lee Masters, so I found the answer in a Yahoo thread,

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070405205705AAnaAld

Interesting interpretation. So Masters was an atheist, until his deathbed, until he suddenly embraced spirituality. Aren't we all? till death howers on our head? Then we learn to pray for a painless transition.

  • Larry Chamberlin

    David,
I'm sorry our crypt-ic language made you go digging for clues to the plot.
    ;8-)

Welcome to one of the finest poetry collections of the 20th century. I have no idea as to Edgar Lee Master's religeous views, but The Atheist is but one of over 200 poems from his Spoon River Anthology.

EDIT: the penalty box was more like 1-2-3 go (to your room)

    Lol
I used my three days of censorship to try to figure what I did wrong. Sometimes to Aspies "a light form of autism " we have trouble distinguishing between mortal sin and venial sin
The mods had to do everything behind close doors as if they were expecting revolution among those of us that took our trolling far to seriously. We were as immature as some politicians so I feel it is as on topic, as the theme is peace and harmony
There was more than one person suspended. I fell on the constant arguing and pushing it on
Congress has penalties also, but rarely for" pushing it on" lol

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." James 4:7 Speak up to the devil in the name of Jesus. "Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world." Jesus said, "I am with you [always].

I am 6' 2" but I could relate to Simon Birch
    Apropos

"Masters and Democrats like him saw, in how national power shifted to the federal government and Wall Street during and after the Civil War, a betrayal of the individual rights and liberties that Jefferson and James Madison and the other Founders had celebrated in the Declaration of Independence and engraved in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. What was the Gettysburg Address, other than an ode to central authority, and as such a perversion of Revolutionary principles?

Well, needless to say, Masters did not win the argument. He was widely criticized for challenging the patriotic orthodoxy; his book sold poorly, and is regarded today as a curiosity, if at all. The myth of Lincoln--the saintly commoner who, almost single-handedly, saved the Union and freed the slaves--lived on.

And so it should. It's a pretty good myth, after all."

C.S. Lewis - "The value of myth is that it takes all the things you know and restores to them the rich significance which has been hidden by the veil of familiarity."
