    Curious term for me,
    Simulacrum = Latin for semblance/similarity

most often used in visual arts/photography....should be a lot of fun. Now you just need some contestants who can pen the beauty of the golden eye...I think I already read one that was amazingly penned...on a hawk-eyed one!

Maybe I'll give this one a go...It's been a while since I entered a comp and..this one appeals to me :)

Will the entire contest be subjected to Images?. .or any other forms of visual art?

    Fantastic idea!!

Using visual art/abstract images to illustrate a poem is very creative and cleverly thought for this contest . .. . can't wait to find out what the other rounds disclose

Should turnout to be a very exciting contest :P

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a 5000 word essay on Simulacrum by comparing the many philosophers ideas and looking at the aspect of intention to deceive in the visual arts. When I saw what you titled this thread I was curious as to what exactly was expected and I must say I'm glad it's nice and simple, not sure my mind could take too much more of simulacrum haha.

Great contest! can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

    A lonely soul,
I am sure it will be fun. I have two poems in and I'm enjoying them.
As far as the word -simulacrum- I also got curious when I first learnt it.
by the way, who is the author of that hawk-eye one poem?

    Hellon,
I really hope you give this one a go.

    Gaurva,
Yup! the theme of the contest is about images but the next rounds will have something else.

    Kevin,
Thank you, I'll let my judges judge it. :-)

    Toq, haha,
I hope so too, stay in tune and see how this contest goes.

    Real meaning
"without being inspired" ? hehe, no. Inspiration is found everywhere. In the air one breaths, in the cry of a baby, in the annoying alarm that wake us everyday, in the steps with take to get to our destinations, well, even in the billboards found on the roads and yup, inspiration is even found in the kitchen. .

Abed, Chelsey, Andrea, Mr. Larry, Thank you!

    Melpomene,
5000 words? I barely make it alive with 1000. But I'm glad I didn't make this too complicated... I'm kind of simple :P

Dear Everlasting first thanks for being different and not treating real meaning like others, diffidently like walls. Any cowardice reflect upon your poetry, as you can see right trough this site and others. Poetry might be the most clear pier glass of human soul, particularly the soul of our own.
100% agree about those sources you mentioned: everything, as long as is not forced. One could never force an inspiration!!

    Im slightly confuse with:

"Any cowardice reflect upon your poetry, as you can see right trough this site and others."

Could explain a bit more? We are on the same page about inspiration and not being force, but I can't see the relationship on the above one lol.

Dear everlasting I hope you know that it was a broad "you " And as you see I exempted you in the beginning, from the point of my general statement.

What I said means the ability to unleash the power of our expression, our real meaning without holding back fearing that it might reflect on our popularity, our rank, our colouful positions, or without finding our callings in others' acknowledgments instead of the satisfaction of the quality.
It means standing up for the truth without fear of those who force us to submit to bogus, unfair or doubtful disorders.
It means being rebellion to everything that conditions the human spirit, including our own ambitions. Remembering that a coward dies in every second and a brave man just once. Standing up always to the nurse Ratchet s of all the cuckoo's nests (( One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest))
A true poet is a rebellion! the moment of epiphany, inspiration is the moment that we free yourself. If we can not free ourselves if we can not acknowledge that moment of freedom, or even if we force that moment of freedom, the inspiration would renounce us.
In the other way if we rebel against something conscientious, ethical, pure, if we protest against innocence or if even we rebel with no case, no true meaning, if we defy the things that are justified and quintessential, we are equally wrong and our uprising is sham, is pretentious. And then again the inspiration would forsake us.
To be inspired we have to gain the respect of inspiration and real meaning.

To be inspired we have to gain the respect of inspiration and real meaning.

    ^
To be inspired... yes, I agree. That is the case with poems and pictures that inspire someone. The individual respects the inspiration that went behind the art. . . as far as the real meaning.. Meaning will vary from person to person. So the real meaning will be the meaning that each individual gives to the art ( poems, pictures,.. etc.) either by how the picture interacts with their lives or how the individual connects with the art.

Or is there a special definition for "real meaning"?

EDIT: Yup, now I'm 100% sure, it was use in a general sense.

    DOUBLE EDIT: 4 Poems in.

Real meaning is only an indication. the truth can not be individual even it manifests itself only individually. like rules of optical density are general even the density is different in each individual vision. Pictures are picture in general even though each one indicates a different individual.
In the Rumi's example of elephant, everyone was blindfolded and let to touch an elephant, then when they come to describe it, each one had different story. One defined it as a tusk, the other as a flat surface (ear) next one a soft tube (trunk) and leg and so on. Later each one generalized their part as what the elephant as a whole is. So the truth in that aspect is individual because we all carry the particle, our particular, experience of it. Poets, artists, touch a part of the elephant, they see the truth in their unique ways, but they are fools if they delude themselves to think their perspective is all there is to it.

I apologize for interrupting your competition. I did not mean to. It is a good one.

But they are fools if they delude themselves to think their perspective is all there is to it.

^^ And that is the reason why one needs to be open minded!

oh and no problem. It will be awesome if you could also participate but if there is no inspiration from the pic then there is nothing one can do.
