Another School Massacre in USA

Cars may kill 30/40000 a year, but cars are necessary and not built for killing. They are constantly being made safer, campaigns to promote road safety etc. Knives are needed to chop food as well as 101 other household tasks, same with string or rope, bottles are made to hold liquid not as weapons. Drugs are illegal. Guns are largely legal and made for killing. It's hard to describe how strange it is for us outside of the US to think of how one person could legally own, what was it, four handguns and a rifle? That people are calling for guns to be introduced in schools to combat school shooters. The fact that drills for gun attacks need to be done in schools is an inditement of how easy it is to attain a gun and kill lots of children in a short space of time. It seems alien here in Ireland that something like that would be necessary, even though we aren't 'the one country in the world that professes mans only chance left at peace and freedom.'

'Did we just witness a magnitude horror act? You bet. What did we witness? We witnessed a wacko insanely do an insane deed. What are we witnessing now? We are witnessing retarded politicians who prey on retarded citizens to advance an agenda.' - You're right in that it was one individual who did this act. But how are politicians 'retarded' for wanting more gun control to try preventing this from happening again? You mentioned dynamite and planes being hijacked etc: well security is much more stringent nowadays as a result of incidents such as 9/11, they didn't just leave things as they were, they updated security measures etc to make it more difficult for people to do these things again. You talk about taking away a freedom yet say the government should be focusing on drugs (which is probably true) but also on 'outmoded religious beliefs and anti irreligious beliefs,' well surely these people should have the freedom to have their own opinions/beliefs, just as you do regarding gun control. Why would they be targeted and loose gun laws that put children in greater harm be left alone?

That was a long response to one post but in general I agree with this statement which I think sums it up well: "I have no doubt that attention needs to be paid to mental health awareness and the way media glorifies massacres. But I see absolutely no logic in doing this INSTEAD OF amending gun laws in the meantime."

Gun control or gun laws were not the only reason this shooting happened, but obviously it was a factor that made it possible.

We live in a relative violent society. Domestic violence is responsible for 1000s of deaths for women and 1000s for children. Most head injuries. Auto deaths of average 11000 year caused by drunk drivers. amount to 30% all auto deaths. There are 1000s of gun related deaths caused not by automatic weapons but by single shot hand guns of which most are illegally owned.
"assault" is a terminology used by the left to define anything that looks scary. All weapons are "assault weapons.
Concealed to carry permits are a necessity and not relative to assault but to deterrents.
Many many a crime has been prevented or at least in positive venue outcome because of honest gun owners who knew how to use them properly.
    Foolish to continue moot arguments.

I thought felons were not allowed to own a gun? is this correct?

Correct. He illegally owned them. If his late sister knew & "was ok with that" then she paid with her life.

Example of laws being only for honest people.
