Clubs take note: Upcoming site contest

I'm putting this up to gauge the interest there would be in a week-long, site-wide team/club contest to start next Monday. Basically, I have the idea to have a 7 day contest, with a different challenge each day. Its a team challenge in that each team/club member would have to agree what poem to write each day, etc. so it should be fun and help boost activity in this wintery, post-Christmas era! I have plenty of surprises planned to get the poetic juices flowing so hopefully each club and member will be ready to bring their A-game :)

I don't want to give too much away about the details of each daily challenge, but basically the challenge for each day will be posted at the start of that day. Each team will have 24 hours to have their poems submitted. What I'm thinking is that there will be a total of 1000 points, with approx 100 points on offer for each daily round with potentially a few bonuses, incentives and surprise points on offer along the way.

Ideally a team or club would have four partaking members, but a club of 20 members could have members a, b, c and d writing for Monday's challenge, members w, z, y and z writing for Tuesdays. Similarily, on days when more than 4-5 poems are required, 10 members could write a poem each or alternatively 5 members could write two each. Its primarily down to the clubs how to organise those finer details.

Due to the volume of poems, judging will not include comments in many cases. Poems will be scored on an 'out of ten' basis for most of the contest. If possible it will be judged anonymously, through the pm system. I'll be leaving my club for the duration of the challenge to help keep it fair/anonymous.

NON-CLUB Members - You are welcome also to form a team, although your team will have to be of at least 3-4 people. Alternatively you could look to join a partaking club this week, if they'll have you! If members want to take part but struggle to find team-mates, pm me and I will see if I can match you with other members who may be in the same situation!

I'm letting everybody know in advance so people can gauge their availability and see what clubs are interested. It will require activity during the week, and this goes out to all but especially if you are a non-club member making/joining a team, don't sign up if you know you wont be online for a 3-4 day spell.

I'm hoping it will be lots of fun, with club pride on the line and plenty of interesting challenges to produce some poetic gems.

Clubs, let me know of your intentions either way. Any questions, queries, comments etc. let me know here, by pm, pigeon-post or whatever method so suits. More details will be added during the week about the first challenge on Monday. Gather the troops!

Remember if you are a non-club member or are a member of an existing club and want to join the contest, come to me (or possibly join The Revived Ones?) and I'll see what I can do to help! I am also working on incorporating an individual element on the side or in conjunction with the main event.

UPDATE: Each club will have three lifelines to help them along with the contest.

Lifeline 1: Is that each club can abstain from one day of the contest (only 6 days will be counted for each club but some bonus points will be given for full participation, if all seven challenges are completed the challenge with the lowest points will not be counted towards the total score). This should encourage full participation but give clubs/members a breather if they cannot make up a full contingent on a particular day.

Lifeline 2: Almost the opposite of lifeline 1, this will allow a club/team to nominate 1 challenge for which they will receive double points. So when the time comes, pick which day you feel you did best on to maximise points.

Lifeline 3: Will be a surprise revealed closer to the commencement!

Great to see each club involved :) I"ll be posting more details later today and getting ready to begin tomorrow. So enjoy the calm before the storm, while it lasts!

The Contest starts tomorrow. The first challenge will be posted at approx 12.00-13.00pm PnQ time and clubs will have exactly 24 hours to pm their poems to me. This will usually be the approx time each challenge will be posted at each day, give or take. Some challenges will require poems to be posted in a thread for each club, but judging will be anonymous when possible (i.e entries done through pm unless otherwise stated). Entered poems will be posted during the week after each round is completed. Entries can be pm'd by any member of the club to me, but must say who the author of each poem is.
