Some weird writings are appearing for me in the front page and while viewing poems.

I get this at the top of the page when I click to read a poem

    " update poems set visits=visits+1 where id='1224999' "

plus the changed in Font size in the Rate section

I am seeing the same things. No word from Janis in the mod room though.

    CRAP.

When I try to nominate a poem, it says "you have already rated this poem"

... but I haven't, and it's not showing up on the nom list.

Edit... it's a love poem. Thats why.

^ Try refresh the browser or clear the "cache", or set your browser to clear the cache each time you close it. The last 2 should clear your browsers memory of the prior poem that you may have rated. Not likely to be a Janis issue, but who knows.

    "My vote/praise comment/comment buttons are ginormous" -
HTML 5 fonts of different kinds on a browser page would appear differently sometimes depending on whether the the encoding used is compatible with old browsers such as IE 8 or below, and sometimes are not even the same in different browsers. In this particular case, it seems it has something to do with probably a Font update by the developer rather than the browser, as the fonts in this area are larger in both IE and chrome, without Janis having signed in since mid-July.

" update poems set visits=visits+1 where id='1224999' " on top of the page

seems to be an embedded code, identifying something (I don't think it is your unique member id, though what I got is different than yours) unmasked by update of the html coding by the same font developer perhaps.
EDIT - id='1224999' denotes the unique poem identifier of the site - just right click on browser and then view source, and it is the top line, which is supposed to be in< > to embed, somehow wiggled loose it seems.

Just making some guesses that this is a "Font update" issue. I don't think Janis is responsible for these, but surely can fix them when he is around..

Ive done all that... still can't nominate. I tested another and figured out its the love poem I can't nominate. . Which someone else had that issue too.

All my stuff is up to date, too. I was really hoping it meant Janis. Lol

Yes the love poem solution is to ask the author to re-categorize it long enough to be nominated.

Yup, you are right about the "love" poems nomination issue recurring again? Not a single love poem amongst the 25 nominated so far! Nomination encoding oversight OR maybe Janis is having/getting a "hard" time with his "love" and decided to penalize you all :)

So, the mods may wish to consider notifying all members via a system wide message how to circumvent the issue ^as Larry pointed above...just to be fair to those who write love poems and wish them to be nominated/win in the weekly.

I was able to a week or so ago I thought. Booo.

Curious, doesn't Janis back up the PnQ website daily on a external storage drive for safety? If true, he probably just needs to know that his back up is again "corrupted" and causing glitches.

I haven't had access to nominating poems in the love section nor the friendship section for yonks now but...I've asked members to move them temporarily to misc if I want to nominate...always works for me...

To be honest, relying on JavaScript and PHP is not a safe option anymore! Glitches are common to occur. Had the same problems with my co. Site and now transferred it all to WordPress and BuddyPress and changed Servers! It provides much reliability, amazing framework to work on, modern, advanced and equipped with amazing plugins and functionality.

I dont think turning on to this option will be much of a headache! Atleast most of our problems and club user permission issues will too get sorted!

    Just a suggestion!:)

A suggestion to investigate for sure.

Amreen, you are 100% right, though hacking may not be the reason for the current problem on PnQ. I am amazed at why people will (sni**er) at her valid suggestion.

Here is why JAVA is unsafe and why the Dept. of Homeland Security sent out an alert to all users in Jan 2013 to disable JAVA in their browsers and websites (developers).

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2262540/Homeland-Security-STILL-warning-Americans-disable-Java-Oracle-says-problem-fixed.html

Version 6 was OK, but version 7 was unsafe until the patch was brought out. But, the hackers always keep 1 step ahead, and the DHS warning has really not gone away, despite the patches.
Per Kaspersky Lab, last year 50 percent of all website exploitations were due to vulnerabilities in Java. Adobe's Acrobat Reader accounted for another 28 percent of vulnerabilities.

Even APPLE banned JAVA in Jan and then blacklisted it in Feb, despite the patch and fixes because of the vulnerabilities in its codes. I am not sure what the current status is.

But, not being a programmer, I think Janis will know best (once he is back to take care of his abandoned web child). HTML 5 is supposed to be the latest universal cross platform language (partially developed), which when fully developed/ingrained by all websites will allow compatibility across all kinds of browsers and platforms.

Here is a simplification for people like myself -
HTML(Hypertext markup language) is normally used to design a web page. CSS(Cascading style sheets) is used for various styles and design. This is for a static web page where the content will be inside the page itself. JavaScript, Flash, Action script and Ajax are used for rich internet application.

Don't create confrontation that does not exist. No one snickered.

Maybe it was the cigarette that made him look like he was smirking...are we actually allowed to advertise cigs BTW? Something else for Janis to look at?

Glad I was not the only one misreading the symbolic expressions. Maybe it was the toxic smoke inhalation of expensive brands influencing the brain, that brought the s***k out.
Cough, cough....cough. I need a smoke mask. Cough.
