The 7 Day Contest: Day 2

Neither of my poems were counted in the first round because I didn't abide by the # of lines rule :)

    Makes sense to me!

It's hypocritical to attack a judge for their honesty because you feel they attacked your poem. The judge doesn't have a personal agenda since they don't know who the poems belong to. Take your score for what it is: An individual's opinion on art.
Do we need to alter our opinions on art for fear of wounding the artist's feelings?
One man's trash is another man's treasure. It's healthy to swallow criticism - gives you a realistic view of what you are and what you have to offer. I'm not saying criticism is fact, but it's a reality check.

Things like this can be character building if you let them...

It would make more sense to tread lightly and give inflated compliments if we were dealing with children. Aren't most of us adults? Do we need to be given gold stars for effort? I don't know, maybe we do.

Quite frankly I enjoy Gold stars.....I can cash them in for money. :)

"It's hypocritical to attack a judge for their honesty because you feel they attacked your poem."

^ honesty in what, Jane? lol

As I said before, getting 1/20 or 0/20 is so illogical. It's far away from honesty or integrity.

If a judge is being honest with their scoring..what is the problem? Whether you get a 0/1 or a 10....the result is still the same...the judge thought other poems were better...that's all. I can't see the scores on individual poems...only the totals for each club right now.

Judging a contest like this is very different from the weekly...when the host specifies something the judge must check that the poems abide to the rules...if they don't then tuff...it's up to the individual and the club manager to check everything before submission..if it get's posted with errors then the judge has no choice but to take note of them.

This is very interesting to me because I feel egos are being bruised here ....egos that should not have been nurtured in the first place :)

I am being honest now: your latest poems, Hellon, deserve a 0/20.

I have read them all, and I found they lacked everything 'poetic'.

^ Btw, this post is also to show you the 'honesty' you are referring to in that judge. Ha Ha Ha.

    Also, I'm checking PnQ time.

LP ....The only response I can give..I really don't give a s**t... because my latest poems have been very personal to me and...I don't expect you to understand so....little children should be see and not heard so...Suush now!

Hold on, woman. Why get angry? I'm just being honest :)

or does honesty make you 'shush' people around because someone is judging your poetry?

    this is hypocrisy.

And now, thank you. I just got what I wanted from you.

    :D

When I post a poem to my account I loose control of what will happen to it on here...some may like it..others, like yourself don't and....that's where the "I don't give a s**t" part comes into it....there is nothing I can do but...that's not why I post....I post to release an emotion that I feel about something that has happened to me. And...I definately do not piss in anyone's pocket to get comments/votes!

The poems in question here have actually been posted as part of a contest...that is the difference...a judge HAS to read from the criteria the host has presented and...if some poems fall outside these lines then...they have to be marked accordingly.

Anyway....There was a thread posted yesterday regarding Judge #1 and it has now disappeared...I no longer want to clog this thread up with trivias...if you wish to open another one...feel free...I will answer you there....

How can a judge give zero to a poem without an explanation?

The poor horse has been beaten to death.
    Give it a rest.
We all got lumps of coal, we'll all deal with it.

I honestly don't see the big deal with it either.. I don't see it being logical that a judge would give a score of 0/20 or 1/20 without justification.. "Harsh" scores I do appreciate in all actuality, because it's a reminder that the judges are not simply giving high scores to everyone, you've actually had to earn it.. So getting a score of 15/20, something of that sort, you will appreciate, because you know you've submitted a very worthy piece.. Anyway.. I'd just like to thank Colm for putting this entire contest together as I have enjoyed it, I also thank the judges for taking the time out & reading through all of the poetry submitted.
