One thing- You are aloud to post other people's quotes if you have their permission and if you say that it is not yours and say who's it is. Most of the people who have something posted on here are right too. You are saying people steal your quotes, but yet you steal other people's quotes. Not a smart thing to say if you don't want to be picked on.

i never understood why this website has quotes anyway. I always thought they seemed insignificant to the scope of Poetry. Lollop, i always thought no one read them too. Guess i was wrong.

  • JustAFoolInLove

maybe she just liked the quote and decided it should have been posted twice! but yeah, i think that, if that is the case, she should have given the original author their due credit.

plain and simple. not yours. wanna post it up. then give the author credit. or explain its not yours

  • Eibutsina

From the few quotes I have accidently read in PNQ I am yet to read an original...however in saying that none of my quotes are original but due credit is given to the actual authors...I just like to share them :o) But if this is against regulation I'm more than happy to remove them

  • Sean Allen

yeh, 'your' quotes are against the site rules. It is unfortunate that moderators can't be trusted with any sort of quote removal ability

    Just Plain Me:

    "bullshit.

    rules are rules.

don't post anything that might be plagiarized.

if you think you have an original quote, do a google search to make sure.

like cyrano's quote: "life goes on"

if you were to type that into a google search (WITH THE QUOTES ON IT), you will see millions of results.

do the same with every quote you have.

if you get results, then someone thought of it before you did. tough shit, life goes on."

WHAT THE FUCK!?!? ARE YOU FUCKING RETARTED!? you can search "a" in google and they will give you millions of results! So never say "a" again, it might be plagiarizing..... dumbass, thinking you sound so damn smart.... just think about what you type before you type it.... that comment right there erases about the whole language of English!

    JPM"

yea, but thinking reasonably... who the hell says shit like "my heart is my balls on a stick"? Unless of coarse you do... but then again... you never know...it's just a bit retarded how you phrased it...

I quite like the quotation: 'My heart is my balls on a stick'. I see this as the fragmentation of self; the notion of the shift from what was once psychologically whole and wholesome into sexuality. A sexuality that is now fuelled by the desire to blatantly exhibit itself to the world due to its new found freedom. This quotation, one might conclude, is symbolic of puberty.

Surely, though, it was obvious. Am I right JPM?

  • pinkalias

You can complain about it and request a plagiarism notification, but I think it's the theft of poems that really matters.

don't get me wrong, all those who steal off this site in the first place should be penalized, but I think the poems are the main concern here.

    I hate poem-thieves...

    Fucking rapists...

Anyways...Life goes on is at least not an original quote...

    and Natasha...JPM is right...

you can say "a" because it is a damn word, but you can't COPY other people`s quotes...

You have hereby made up the most retarded argument I've ever heard...

    cheers

Leave Cyrano alone. I agree that you all should be doing more with your time than patronizing other users. If everyone who ever repeated something that has been said by another was censured, this world would be a silent one. With 6 billion people on the planet, there will be instances of "copying" another person. So, before you crucify another person, why don't you consider what I have just said and think about how childish and trivial you are behaving.

1.To repeat or copy the words of (another), usually with acknowledgment of the source.
2.To cite or refer to for illustration or proof.
3.To repeat a brief passage or excerpt from: The saxophonist quoted a Duke Ellington melody in his solo.
4.To state (a price) for securities, goods, or services.

these are from the on-line dictionary dictionary.com

    everyone-
needs to know the meaning of the word before they criticize other people. you people are acting like your in second grade ( no offense to anyone who might be in second grade) get the meaning of the word before you make judgement calls.

for anyone who don't know criticized means-
1.To find fault with: criticized the decision as unrealistic. See Usage Note at critique.
2.To judge the merits and faults of; analyze and evaluate.

or we could all just quote other people, and tell each who we quoted, then no one would get angry.
I personally quote nirvana in my profile, but i give them credit for the quote.

    Parissa:

Anyways, you are not allowed to use other people quotes on this site...

  • Synyster

I think, truly what they meant by "submit quote" was for you to write your own, just as you write your own poetry. You do not copy poetry, because that is plagerizm, to quote is not such, but also as cheap. But let's not harass and critisize others, for "ye who hath no sin shall casteth the first stone"

'Do you not have anything better to do than to bash people on the net? Is that what you think of as fun? A simple you do the samething would have been fine, jeez. H8erz'

well...thats not saying much...read your first post on the board...u r complaining too o_O

  • Pete

if people want to use quotes that aren't their own let them, it isn't their own work and they know that so the only person it really affects is the 'author'.

  • Synyster

Well, unfortunately, Pete, that's how a "quote" works.

*Quote (may be used as a noun or verb. But here, it is used as a noun) - A quotation is a fragment of a human expression that is being referred to by somebody else. Like a paraphrase, a quotation is introduced by a verbum dicendi. Most often a quotation is taken from literature, but sentences from speeches, dialogue from films, and lines from song lyrics are also used. Aside from simply using words a quotation can also refer to any use of a piece of an artistic work in another place. This can include elements of a painting, scene from a movie and sections from a musical composition.*

So in esscense, we are all quoting eachother continuously. Even our "original" poems have elements of quotation in them because we are using words, phrases and structures that we may have seen and decided to emulate for a particular effect in the work. So unless you were to write your own language, you would be quoting. But even still, you are quoting, because it is derived from whatever language you speak, because it has meaning in the original host languge.

So, in short, no matter what the human population does - whether global or just within the realm of this site, we have, will and forever will be "technically" quoting people.

Meh.. I dunno but a lot of people do use other people's quotes.. I don't even know which one's are real. Some are even from songs and stuff.
