The 7 Day Contest: Results

Well done to all clubs involved. I'm sure it was challenging, sometimes chaotic, sometimes infuriating, but I hope there was a little fun along the way too.

The results are not all in yet but I'll add to them as I go, so watch this space.

Every club still just has one more task to do: Pick a challenge/day to use their double points lifeline on. Pick carefully, as you will have to pick by this time tomorrow! (7.00am Sunday 17th) That means you can take a risk, if you are confident in your day 5, 6 or 7 challenges, or play it safe and pick from your best score already posted. No more results will be posted until tomorrow anyway so if you don't pm me I'll just assign it to your highest score so far from day 1-4.

Hopefully the full results and winners will be announced in the coming days!

Please hold off posting poems to your accounts until the contest is fully judged, done and dusted.

Finally, I'll be giving three comments/critiques to each individual participant, because I know feedback is probably the most beneficial thing about entering these contests and I think poets deserve it after all the effort! So when the time comes I'll be setting up a thread or asking me to pm them the three poems they want critiqued.

And, after much nail-biting, hair-pulling and sleeplessness, the final results are IN. Thanks a million to each judge for all the hard work, and to everybody who took part. It was difficult but I hope you had some fun along the way.

So without further ado, the moment you have all been waiting for, (drumroll......) And the Oscar goes to... oops wrong ceremony. Ah here it is. The winning club of the 7 Day Challenge is -

    ***Fragments of Poetry!***

Congrats to FOP, otherwise known as Club 3, who (even without me!) put in a consistent performance each day to make it to the top spot. With the high score for a fair amount of the challenges, FOP managed to set and maintain a high standard, so well done to them. Don't eat all the celebratory cupcakes at once!

    2nd - Free Spirits

Free Spirits set off at a fast pace, were quick and organised and performed well throughout. They showed good teamwork and organisation which I'm sure helped them along the way to posting an impressive total, with the only blip along the way coming in the tough marathon last challenge, where they lost some ground but held on to second spot well.

3rd - Like The Flowing River

Close on the heels of Free Spirits were Like the Flowing River, who really showed finishing power with a high total of marathon poems earning high points plus impressive totals especially in the second half of the contest (high scored in day 6 and 7.) Unfortunately it was not enough to haul in the leaders but an admirable effort nonetheless.

    What clubs were what:
    Club 1 = Free Spirits
Club 2 = Ravens Haven II
    Club 3 = FOP
Club 4 = Like the Flowing River
    Club 5 = Moonlight Muses
Club 6 = The Kite Runners
Club 7 = The Club (Pirate Ship)

    Fully completed results:

    1. Fragments of Poetry = 495.5
    2. Free Spirits = 443.5
    3. Like the Flowing River = 441.9
    4. The Kite Runners = 432.65
    5. Moonlight Muses = 426.85
    6. The Raven's haven II = 371

    Net results per club:
    - Before double points for each club were added (day 4 for each club) as part of a lifeline.
    - Before lowest round score deducted (only top 6 counted)
    - 20 bonus went to The Kite Runners for coming up with the best challenge (Challenge A).

Judges feel free to announce your identities if you so want, if you want to remain anonymous that's fine too :)

I'll be editing this post to add the detailed day 5, 6 and 7 results soon, I think I'll post what I have so far to end the anticipation :)

Thank you, Colm for hosting this and don't feel bad now, you were one of our inspirations throughout this challenge. :) *hands you a box of vodka cupcakes*

Also, a big thanks to the judges for noticing our work and for their hard efforts reviewing and ranking such a huge number of poems.

Thank you, Foppers for all the hard work and extra efforts on this, especially to Hayley, Natasha, Jenn, Krissy, Cynnie, Z, and Rupert, thank you guys.

    Congrats all

Thanks Colm for this nightmare week you thrust upon us all, The Ravens may have finished er...last...but I am proud of those guys that gave it a crack.
(there were occasions where a few members were roped into writing a poem with only about 20 mins before deadline)

In all it was an awesome contest, well constructed.

thanks judges 1 and 2, not an enviable task reading and scoring 3 and 1/2 million poems.

Congratulations to Fragments of Poetry and Free Spirits!!

Thank you Colm for hosting this contest... it really challenged me to write a lot of poems in a short amount of time which doesn't happen easily! Thank you to the judges for taking the time to critique our work.

And lastly, thank you to my fellow LTFR members because we couldn't have done it without you! Especially Larry, who has helped us a lot! And Michael, who always pulls through!! :)

Well done everyone! We made it through this challenge! We need more contests like this :)

Much much thanks to Colm for hosting this challenge, I honestly haven't written this much in the last few months, the inspiration (and exhaustion!) is appreciated. ;)

Well done to the judges for reading and rating such a humongous amount of poems, and to the other clubs as well, for being responsible for this explosion of poetry. :)

Who was that "harsh insane judge"BTW....I'd love to know?

  • Darren

It appears we were 6th out of 7th

    But to be perfectly honest

    I could use this excuse;

"Karla had no access to a computer all week, (apart from the final hour) therefore our best poet was not involved"

    Or I could say this;

"I am just happy we completed it, even though I thought I was going to be doing the hour challenge on my jack jones, it was a great excercise in pulling together as a team..."

I prefer the latter, also my poems have been bumped by 10 which takes me to the 100 mark thanks to this contest.

again Well done winners , and thanks judge 1 for the zero, it was a much needed pin in my ego.

My club performed as expected. I love us and our nothing-to-prove, let's-give-the-others-a-chance, meh-ness. I mean laziness. I mean my club sucks, can I join yours.

Don't know how this contest worked, Colm, sorry I missed it. Looks like hard work, well done.

Day 7 (Marathon results). Bare with me this might be number-heavy.

50 points went for quantity (1 point per poem submitted) and 50 for quality (average rating multiplied by 50). The scores (out of 10) apply to the poems in the order they were posted in each thread. P.S. Judge 2 (Britt) scored this round.

    Free Spirits: 12 poems
    8, 8, 7, 7, 6, 7, 7, 6, 7, 6, 9, 6 - avg: 84 divided by 12 = 7
    Total: 12 +35 (50x0.7) = 47/100

    Kite Runners: 30 poems
    8, 8, 6, 6, 5, 7, 7, 9, 9, 7, 6, 6, 6, 9, 7, 9, 9, 7, 7, 8, 6, 10, 5, 8, 9, 8, 9, 7, 8, 7. - avg: 223 divided by 30 = 7.43
    Total: 30 +37.15 (50x.0743) = 67.15

    Moonlight Muses: 24 poems
    6, 9, 7, 9, 6, 8, 5, 8, 7, 9, 6, 10, 6, 9, 9, 8, 7, 9, 8, 9, 7, 9, 7, 7. - avg:185 divided by 24 = 7.71
    Total: 24+38.85 (50x0.771) = 62.85

    LTFR: 34 poems
    7, 9, 6, 6, 6, 8, 6, 7, 8, 8, 8, 9, 7, 6, 9, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 8, 7, 6, 6, 7, 6, 7, 7, 6, 7, 5, 8, 6, 9. - avg: 244 divided by 34 = 7.18
    Total: 34+35.9 (50x0.718) = 69.9

    FOP: 24 poems
    9, 10, 8, 8, 9, 9, 8, 9, 9, 6, 9, 7, 9, 8, 8, 9, 10, 7, 8, 7, 9, 9, 8, 8. - avg: 208 divided by 24 = 8.67
    Total: 24+43.5 (50x0.867) = 67.5

Ravens Haven - The poems were judged individually but didn't count as a total due to day rules, despite Darren's brave solo effort :)
