Boston Marathon Tragedy

For those who haven't heard, the was a very large marathon in Boston, Massacusetts with thousands of people. There was 3 bombs 2 of which went off and killed 3 people, injured more than 130 people and 8 people who are in critical condition.

My heart goes out to all those people, their familes and friends.

Totally sickening, the times we live in. Makes my skin crawl. My prayers and thoughts to anyone and everyone involved and impacted.

Edit: And a huge prayer of praise to the first responders and good samaritans. Many lives were saved, and they handled it quickly and with care.

First thought every time - Probably an inside job. The government is a terrorist body with legal powers.

    Hope is a nostalgic commodity.

Healing be quick. And much relief to the victims.

^ Hope and American spirit is always alive, and never lost amongst victims and onlookers. But, it is the attacker/s who would never understand how resilient is the American spirit. What a cowardly attack on a group of sports enthusiasts. At times like these the whole country comes together as one to support the victims and their families. My heart goes out to all victims and families.
Evil hides for now, but we just need to wait...and hope that justice is done.

And Gaurav, in a free country this is not a govt. conspiracy, but a conspiracy by people who envy our freedom.

  • Exostosis

Negative. Extreme sentiments hinder and cloud perception. Mighty easy to manipulate people who "believe" or "feel" for agencies outside of their ability to comprehend. That is why citizens, no matter which country they belong to, will always fail to be content, even with freedom. Americans bicker about the mundane routines of life much like people from every part of the world. Humans are the same everywhere. Nothing different or special about people from a specific region.

    American spirit is strong. Undoubtedly.

But to deny that the government has played its part in bringing about the wars, is to say that the sun has set merely by placing ones palm before their eyes.

in a free country this is not a govt. conspiracy, but a conspiracy by people who envy our freedom.

^ Then perhaps you believe that 9/11 was not an inside job, to start a war in the middle east?.

Since this is a thread for the victims of the bombings. I won't stretch the argument further. There comes a time, we can longer hide from the things we have done. So, whether government or terrorist, life is precious.

I can't imagine ever witnessing something like this happen. My heart hurts for these people, whether they were killed/hurt/witnessed anything.. what an absolute traumatic and terrible thing to happen.

I have a really hard time understand how an individual(s) can do anything like this. In this broken, fallen world things like this will continue to happen. My prayers go out to all involved.

"Then perhaps you believe that 9/11 was not an inside job, to start a war in the middle east?"

    I love you, Gaurav.

It's really sad to see people who still think that the bombing, whether in Syria or America, is a religion thing.

    My consolations.

  • A lonely soul

It was nothing but a "religion thing"!
as the evolving facts have shown all along in both cases, if you follow the news at all.. (but I do realize that your news is likely censored or distorted just like the many other pieces of misinformation that people from your part of the world are wonderfully adept in propagating).

    Read this as a sampling:
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/apr/22/tamerlan-tsarnaev-youtube-jihadist-radicalisation

Unfortunately, a religion is not the one to blame, but its writings interpreted by its radical defenders (high ranking clerics who promote "hate' for the 'non-believers' or "Westerners...Americans being the main target") in the name of Allah, brainwash young immature minds by their religiously worded innuendo, to target and try to instill fear in non-believers by mayhem and killings the world over...the unfortunate new face of "radicalized" teachings of the "religion of Peace" and its followers.

This country welcomes and accept all religions from all corners of the world as long as they are not anti-humanity and have an open mind. Freedom, respect for all and equality are the cornerstones of its foundations which religious zealots cannot tolerate so they want to try to shake it each time, only to find it is ever stronger than before. And yes, the 2014 Boston marathon is expected to be twice as big...to prove to the world, that this incident will not produce "fear" in the minds of the "free".

I would love to hear your Government conspiracy theory again Gaurav. :) or you can simply retract it and re-evaluate the news the whole world now knows about the 2 brothers.

However, regardless of how much evidence and facts that exist in the free press, some people will never be able to change their mind. (and Gaurav this is not directed to you).

  • Marcy Lewis

You know, here's my standing on the conspiracy issue. The media put out images. It took them days to comb through. They ask for the public's help. Both guys were clearly guilty - the one tried to off himself. I really don't think this is the time for a conspiracy argument. There are many injured people, a dead little boy, and two beautiful young women. Our hearts, prayers, and resources should be given toward the victims instead of a possible theory.

  • Exostosis

    ALS

Tad busy these days with relocating and company projects. So I won't go too deep into it.

Wont retract anything I say about the government. But will leave you with something to ponder upon. The beloved land of America, why is the western world the envy of all, and yet accused of being a two faced god?

Got nothing against the US or any other country. Patriotism is a faulty concept to me, to misdirect the sentiments of citizen to justify wars. I am totally neutral.

The satellite industry of the US, is the war industry. Wars keep the country running. Each time it reaches recession, it must do something to provoke a war, else it collapses. The U.S. spends about $554.2 billion annually to fund its military forces, and appropriates approximately $88.5 billion to fund Overseas Contingency Operations. Put together, the U.S. constitutes roughly 43 percent of the world's military expenditures. A bit pricey, isn't it? There are at least 90 industries that depend upon the war industry. Most Americans wouldn't be aware of the information, that Ford does not simply build cars, but also invests in the war. General Motors invests in Missiles. And many a number of companies fund the military.

US must somehow participate in a war at least once in 25-50 years, or perish. Inside jobs are common., not only in the US, but most other countries. The magnitude of such a betrayal is too hard to stomach for average citizens. Everyone knows about political killings and such.

And a lot can be said for the Europe. The British house of commons, has a lot of documents. Adequate evidences to prove a lot of government officials as war criminals. A number of inventions are wrongly associated with its creators. The third law from Newton dates back further than 10th century. The plane wasn't exactly invented by the wright bothers. They acquired the design for it and put the peices together. The surgery for cataract which is still so imperfect, was perfected 3000 years ago. There are documents on it. There are evidences that refrigeration dates back to the 6th century, at least a primitive theory for it. History is so blur, and its foundations are so horrifying. I totally get why ignorance is bliss :P

I openly criticize Indian politics as well. A significant number of government officials have cases on them for murder, bombings, rape, etc etc. Too bad they will get away with it. India has more black money than all the countries put together. 700+ accounts in the Swiss bank.

I do want to mention 9/11. But it seems people tend to lose temper merely by the mention of it. Though I never got how 4 planes could be hijacked from the airports, fly over the American airspace for over an hour, in a different course and the aviation team did not notice inconsistency on the radar? The FAA did not notify NORAD about it until the first plane collided with the tower. This is a country known for its strict and tedious security. Four planes from four different high security locations hijacked, on the same day?. .the time difference also is to be considered. It was vigorously planned. And you cannot crash into a building and hope it collapses vertically. Such a feat needs the building to be rigged from precise angles. ..something does not add up. I have been reading about the beautiful art of detonating a building, to make it collapse upon it self and not in a haywire fashion. What a wonderful job. And you wouldn't want to know about the second world war or the cold war or the wars in the middle east since the 1980's.

I think this much is enough to imbue curiosity, to dig deeper into the authenticity of the current ethics of our society?. .

I will look into the Boston incident and report back soon. But everyone is a suspect. Coincidences are not to be believed in.

It is very interesting to know your views Gaurav. They are as convoluted and mistaken as those from some in the middle east, communist countries and countries whose dictators, autocrats and others project about the USA, having very little perception of what this country is all about.
Your statements here sound to me like as if the US has nothing better to do than create wars to keep its war factories running! People who are jealous of its enormous resources, political and economic reach will always spread misinformation, but shouldn't one use be a bit more discerning in disseminating these. I hope you do not start siding with these misguided folks who thrive on spreading misinformation and non-sense.

One thing in common with all these views, they are not only clouded and made to fit to fit one's telescopic vision, they are also disrespectful to say the least to a country who for the last 100 years has participated in largely saving the world from returning to nomadic/autocratic times. How easily one can forget even recent history... WW II, and the late American entry that changed the outcome of the war, the innumerable American and allied lives lost to get rid of evil forces.. Hitler, Mussolini and like) the Korean war (Kim's grandfather's creation), Vietnam war (both trying to limit the spread of the evils of communism), Afghan war (in response to a frontal attack on America, by hidden evil forces that hijacked an entire religion), and much more.

This certainly does not exclude the guilt of some frank policy mistakes by individual President's (eg the 2nd Gulf war, nicaraguan covert funding, and other cold-war mistakes). But, to extrapolate these small mistakes to an entire nation who regularly sends its men and women to fight for justice everywhere, is maligning an entire nation. I am sorry you really feel this way. I sincerely hope you don't really feel the way you were forced to respond.

But, just look around you a bit more and look at the enormous charity and goodwill the USA spreads each day, around the world to help Peace and help impoverished people, to combat poverty, disease and more, to help individual countries face what threatens them immediately...hunger and diseases. Just take a look at this chart:

    http://www.indexmundi.com/g/r.aspx?t=10&v=99

And this does not include individual charities and philanthropic contributions (Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, etc) to the world.

It is a favorite past time for some to throw mud and malice at the USA, but shouldn't we first look at ourselves and our own countries first, before demonizing the significant contributions of a great country whose foundations are built around Peace, Liberty and Justice for all.

For each citizen of this great country, the Pledge of Allegiance reminds us every day:
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all"

^ Must be appealing. Emotional sway of the intellect towards unrelenting faith in the system.

Highly doubt that I am mistaken. I am not accusing the US government. I am accusing all governments.

Your statements sound to me like as if the US has nothing better to do than create wars to keep its war factories running!

    ^
It runs on the war industry. Has to participate in wars, or it collapses. Has to keep the factories running. Did mention at least 2 companies that fund the wars. Why does the government spend such humongous money, of the citizens on producing weapons at all?. .and such a high figure?. .43% out of the total global expenditure. Short of half. And that is why War industry is its satellite industry. Why does it sell the weapons back to the citizens and other nations as well?. .Hand everyone weapons and demand for peace?

But, to extrapolate these small mistakes to an entire nation who regularly sends its men and women to fight for justice everywhere, is maligning an entire nation.

^ Justice?. .Wars have always been between the governments. Common man has constantly been the victim. Electing governments after governments, none satisfactory. Democracy, communism, Capitalism, all the same today.

But, just look around you a bit more and look at the enormous charity and goodwill the USA spreads each day, around the world to help Peace and help impoverished people, to combat poverty, disease and more, to help individual countries face what threatens them immediately...hunger and diseases.

^ is equivalent to saying that the one who amputates your arm provides you a luxurious treatment in a hospital.

they are also disrespectful to say the least to a country who for the last 200 years has participated in largely saving the world from returning to nomadic/autocratic times.

    ^ Humorous.

Yes, the whole religious rigor. Extremists will not see to reason. If it be a religious issue, it must be confined to the country. But its mostly about political propaganda. Religion is a decoy.

It is a favorite pat time for some to throw mud and malice at the USA, but shouldn't we first look at ourselves and our own countries first, before de-recognizing the significant contributions of a country whose foundations are built around Peace, Liberty and Justice for all.

^ All foundations are built on Peace and Liberty and Justice for all. Did I not mention India?. .India is run by corrupts. And as for me, I admit I am not a patriot. Wouldn't restrict humanity to the borders of a country. Rather be a global citizen. What criteria must one surpass to be qualified sane enough to question the motives of the authority?

Again, I am not against America. You are going off track, trying to make this about America. Its about the corrupt system.

Little I have to say to your lengthy discourse and blatantly insulting statements on the cause of the boston bombing and 9/11 that started it all.

The war industry and investment here is for defense of the country and the world, not offense as required by the US constitution. Your inherent pre-supposition on this is faulted, hence I had to respond to you. No US President will willingly go against the US constitution and invite the wrath of the people. Mistakes are sometimes made, in deciding what is a threat to its soil. The only other reason it will go to war is when there is humanity to defend (WW II, Korea and Vietnam).

  • nouriguess

A question for you, ALS: If America isn't creating wars then why are there American soldiers in Iraq, in Afghanistan and in Libea? Why is the American government making every effort to weaken the Syrian army, negatively affecting the Syrian crisis, playing an undeniable rule in financing this so-called revolution, supporting the illegal council held in Qatar which was invented to send weapons and murder as many Syrians as possible? Is it for petroleum?

Communists are dictators? That is interesting, you mentioned in a previous thread that Milosevic was a criminal when the only crime he did was watching his people die and being accused of it all. Bashar is the Milosevic of the 21st century. The same old technique, history repeating itself.

I agree that there is a group of misled/bribed/radical terrorists who think their only mission on earth is to kill non-believers (and who aren't related to our religion or nationality in any way), but the American government can stop them, so why doesn't it? Because they create a very good reason to deploy its military bases everywhere in the world, so that the economy there is running smoothly.

Be assured that nobody envies your lives there. Freedom isn't waging wars against defenseless nations. I'm sure I'm not the brainwashed here, and I don't care for the press and all the other brainwashing methods. Stop sending me links.

We really were saddened by what happened in Boston, because every Syrian is living this tragedy everyday. If we're against the American government, that doesn't mean we should be heartless or mad at the innocent public there.

Much admirable. But mistaken.

Re: Your qns Noura, whatever I have to say is already in PRINT in recent history with good supporting evidence, so what is the point in me belaboring this over? Just read history of American involvement in each of these and you will know why America or the West was unwittingly drawn in each of them. If I quote Wikipedia, you would say it is "not believable"? Perhaps, Larry or someone else that you can trust can better educate you on the circumstances of each incident.

Gaurav: Let us call it a day. Obviously, not being in the US, you have very litle idea as to what has already been dug up on the 2 brothers, and where it is leading to. I am not the one who is misguided, as you say...but it is you who is way behind in catching up on the daily revelations of the deeds of these brainwashed and radicalized young Muslims who turned against humanity and their own people and country in the name of their faith, and the truth being revealed each day that passes.

The 2 faced nature and superficiality of your condolences speaks for itself. But, first quit making preposterous presumptions that the Americans have no better things to do to "create" wars, show of their might in Afghanistan or elsewhere to justify what you folks perceive as "misguided" in each of these situations. Unfortunately, both of you have ways to go, to learn the truth, before you start arguing.
So, I am simply going to let others take over and respond to the two of you.

Obviously, not being in the US, you have very litle idea as to what has already been dug up on the 2 brothers, and where it is leading to
    ^^^^

Well neither am I in the US and that's probably quite a good thing because, not being emotionally involved gives me a clearer perception I think. With past debates you and others (I will include myself here) have dismissed claims by other nationalities who are emotionally involved as being fed propaganda by their government so...what's to say this is not happening to you right now? Just a thought.

Anyway...my first thoughts when I heard of this bombing were going down the same path as George's...I was suspicious yes, please do not think your government or any government for that matter is not capable of such an action...they all are. However...then we were told how the bombs were made and they were so unsophisticated I thought...some radical idiots who had read some crap on the net...nothing more. Then one is dead (the one who was interviewed and released two years ago as a non suspect) and the other is on the run. Massive coverage follows and finally he's caught but....has a tongue and throat wound....again my suspicions are raised...one dead and one well...can't talk...very convenient?

I'm playing devil's advocate here I know because...I can see both sides of this argument but...I think George is quite within his right to state his concern and LS...rather than knock him for it and going on the defence you should maybe just consider it a possibility. I do hope he and I are both wrong but....now I'm gonna get all suspicious again and say....there's really no way we will find out because the goverment...like any smart government can bury/cover things up until we are all dead and buried :)

It goes without saying of course, that my heart goes out to those who suffered in this bombing.

Ahhh yes the lowly United States did it again...it conspired to create another war. This one in Chechnya. Why? Because we hate Chechnya's. why? We are jealous of their oil and of course their suppirior religion and their magic carpets.
But how did we do this with out George Bush? No. Actually George and Dick were seen at Macys purchasing pressure cookers. When asked what they where doing there they said it was for their wives birthdays. (George snickerd of course) But how did people in the third world gain this knowledge? Well if you've been in Macys lately you will see that the majority of employees are of middle eastern decent. Placed there by the peace loving ACLU who's job it is to watch over the population of the united states for its humanity violations such as Drone killings.
Anyway back at the ranch... George and Dick paid some down and out Chechnians whom were on social security aid put there by big wall street companies who refused to hire them so to the point they were starving and would do anything for a sandwich. Jay Carney taught them how to fill the pressure cookers with human feces which is highly explosive under pressure when stimulated with a vibrator controlled by the cell phone number 1 800 d u c k.
This conspiracy is a proven fact. Just ask any third grader who just entered this country and is learning Spanish.

I don't know if some people have forgotten this or what but geez

    1. The first and most important rule is to be respectful to all members. Being disrespectful to other members will not be tolerated.

Aaaanyway. So, Guarav with the 9/11 thing, how you don't totally get how people can just hijack 4 planes, I feel is just digging for conspiracy. These people planned these attacks outside of the country, and came in, and did them. It wasn't like they were unprepared - that sounds snippy, but no rudeness intended. To be honest, though I should be, I'm not overly-educated on the 9/11 attacks, but I do pretty much know the basics. Your opinions are interesting to read - but to live in fear that the government is trying to murder its own people, I can't do. I probably would be one of the people debating conspiracy on your end, but it's just too sad to even think about. There are kids without parents, parents without children, and friends without friends because of these terrible attacks, regardless of who committed them. My focus is usually placed more onto the victims and their families - not the theories, though these debates between you all are particularly interesting.

Just curious though as to what your thoughts are on the Newtown, Connecticut shooting?

A preliminary 60 minutes investigation from last Sunday(not made by the govt) may be educational:

I will also try to find the daily rundown of events that I watch on TV in print somewhere, to help quell the paranoia of govt. conspiracy. During the Boston news, Melpo and I were talking about the difference in our news.

One thing you guys outside of the states have to remember is a huge portion of our media is in bed with the government. So we get lied to on a daily basis. Anyone who disagrees with that fact is absolutely naive to think that the biased media is feeding you the truth.

Melpo had news that my news didn't.. and I've noticed thats a trend. We don't get the same kind of coverage and information, though you'd think it would be the other way around. She also was surprised that our news doesn't give much information on other countries. Her news was discussing the Texas fertilizer plant that exploded -- my own news had very little coverage on this because of the Boston news.

I absoluely refuse to believe 9/11 was an inside thing.. perhaps because it's too big and too personal, but I won't even read into the conspiracy theories. It could be 100% true and I still wouldn't believe it, because it's just too sour and hurts too much. Naive and ignorant, sure, I know. Regarding people flying over America airspace for an hour -- Americans got too lazy and too comfortable. The last thing we thought was that someone would ever attack us -- hello, you know how arrogant we can be? And what were they going to do -- shoot the planes down with all the people in it? (please disregard any snooty tone, I can't figure out how to word it differently).

As for Newtown and Boston, I believe there is definitely more to the story. Same with the shooting that happened at the mall I shop at back in December.. Newtown and the Aurora, CO shooting had too many people tied to it that are similar. Newtown and Clackamas had a lot of similarities too.

This whole Boston thing wreaks of fishiness.. SOMETHING is going on and we are being lied to.

Media is not subjected to free will. It is run by the government. What one reads in the newspaper or watches in the news is not always true.

There are kids without parents, parents without children, and friends without friends because of these terrible attacks, regardless of who committed them. My focus is usually placed more onto the victims and their families - not the theories, though these debates between you all are particularly interesting.

^ Pretty common. Using the heart and not the mind to judge. Emotions get the best of us in such situations. Again, the magnitude of such a betrayal is hard to fathom. One does not think or feel that the government could resort to such methods.

. Your opinions are interesting to read - but to live in fear that the government is trying to murder its own people, I can't do. I probably would be one of the people debating conspiracy on your end, but it's just too sad to even think about.

^ The government is not trying to murder its own people. It uses the murder as an excuse to indirectly or directly participate in wars. Has been going on since the second world war. For it has built its economy around the war industry.

And the mother of the suspects in the Boston bombings said that the boys were framed. Tamerian Tsarnaev was under FBI surveillance for the past 3 years. The FBI knew which sites he was visiting. He was being harassed by the FBI. Being questioned earlier, he was labeled as an extremist and put under surveillance. What was the FBI doing in the mean while?

He is dead. Got no trial. Proven guilty by default. No way to turn around the case with the suspect dead. People will believe that he was the culprit. Case closed.

May be he was, the bomber. But I'd prefer that the suspect get a say. Would have been able to judge better if the suspects could speak in their defense.

And again ALS, I am not accusing the American citizens of being murderers. I am suspicious of the government, not the law abiding citizens. Its about the corrupt system. It isn't limited to the US government, but all forms of government. You are constantly playing the same tape.

9/11 - The American airports have massive security. We are speaking of the most secure airports in the world. 4 planes hijacked, no matter which terrorist group, would not be able to pull this off without an inside hand. A pretty big one. I would have been content if it had been one plane But it was not one, not two, not three, but four planes. From four different locations in the same country. They flew in a different direction from their course. We have roads on the ground, and there are caves in the air, within which the air crafts are to fly. To change the course the crew has to co ordinate with the team on the ground, because there are over a thousand planes in the air at any given moment. One does not simply fly the plane where he wants to. Suspicion is a fair play then. The pentagon is a defense ministry. There are 4 automated heavy armored guns around the pentagon, capable of taking down an object within its accurate firing range of 2500 meters. The guns did not fire on the day of the attack. Not one of the four guns went off?. .The guns wouldnt know any different whether it was a flying car or a military aircraft or a passenger jumbo jet. It is programmed to fire on targets that enter its firing range at the entry point. It may not be able to take down a jumbo jet, but they would have fired anyways. And the media just happened to be present at the precise moment?. .

There is so much one can point out about the 9/11. But lets leave it for the moment.

Hellon, I just don't like seeing people being disrespected. We can all respectfully disagree, without name-calling of sorts. :)

George doesn't get it..I don't get it either honey..not about them being able to hijack 4 planes..I dig that...that's the easy part but being able to fly them around in American air space for over an hour well....that's just the part I don't dig?

^^The documentary I watched a while back did say that they had coordinated times to do this. It's not like they flew around aimlessly. They were timing it.

^^That is my standing, to a perfect T. It's too hard of a subject to want to believe anything other than sick, cruel terrorism. That's not exactly fair when debating, and it's stubborn, but really, that's just how I am with 9/11. The Newtown shooting is different with me. Immediately, I was devastated. I'm a Sunday School teacher and the first thing I thought of was my kids, and my four year old sister. All these babies just murdered senselessly, and it broke my heart. Immediately, I saw the conspiracy with this, though. I can't remember what channel, but it was VERY convincing. And now, I refuse to believe it even happened. One of the "victims" was actually photographed with the president, alive and well. There's just some things that don't make sense to me, so this is where I'm kind of in the middle when it comes to government conspiracy, because I do sort of believe that this was arranged to get new gun laws. The coverage never showed ambulances a bunch of first responders, and they originally said that they had the so-called perp captured behind the school. It's just all just a bunch of confusion because, really, I am starting to realize the media plays a big part in funky things like this. But, I still am not sure about the bombing being conspiracy.

^^The FBI tends to launch an investigation when there is reason to follow a lead. He was an extremist, and had a history of it. Not saying that we aren't all an extremist in some fashion, and again, I'm not 100% educated on this, but the United States Government would've preferred, I'm sure, to have prosecuted this man instead of killing him. There's no justice in it. And the fact that the accused accomplice tried to kill himself..obviously makes me a little fishy as to why. Obvious guilt. This is kind of a narrow-minded view, but again - I'm always on the emotional side of things looking at that dead little boy and beautiful young women. If this was a government conspiracy, would there not be a bigger, better explosive? I mean, this was a homemade bomb with nails or whatever, inside a pressure cooker, and they were seen dropping the backpacks. So, there's to me, no way that they could have been framed and set up by the FBI, or arranged by the FBI, when our armed forces have access to much more devastating equipment.

A bit surprised as to why people do not read/watch the news and instead speculate in all different directions, which leads to all these wild debates.

I will try to help with news links that will answer most of your qns, rather than debate the "govt. controversy" or other issues. I was taught to always respect the facts and not speculate excessively. And yes 60 minutes is a very respectable well researched newscasting, at least in this country :) I love it, and I wish you folks would be a bit more trusting of the media here in the US. I disagree that the media in this country is in "bed" with the govt...actually quite the opposite! :) Anyway, I will do what I can to bring the reporting on this evolving saga by links for all to read and make their own judgement.

    Here are some recent one's:

No wonder, you din't hear about the fertilizer plant explosion! :)

To me, Fox news is the voice, eyes and ears of the Republican/conservative party of America :) (the radical wing :) which beats up Democrats and Obama all day, seemingly their main agenda to be on the air! so after a while I get fed up with the same old drum beat.

I watch many newscasts and then also look up International news on BBC to Al Jazeera and more via this link (veryquiet.com), which I would encourage all our young readers to bookmark and visit frequently to keep upto date as to what is really going around in the world.

And for all of the 911 speculators, here are the facts from the 911 commission report that you may or may not have read:

At 8:32 a.m., Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials were notified Flight 11 had been hijacked and they in turn notified the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). NORAD scrambled two F-15s from Otis Air National Guard Base in Massachusetts and they were airborne by 8:53 a.m. Because of slow and confused communication from FAA officials, NORAD had 9 minutes' notice that Flight 11 had been hijacked, and no notice about any of the other flights before they crashed. After both of the Twin Towers had already been hit, more fighters were scrambled from Langley Air Force Base in Virginia at 9:30 a.m. At 10:20 a.m. Vice President Dick Cheney issued orders to shoot down any commercial aircraft that could be positively identified as being hijacked. However, these instructions were not relayed in time for the fighters to take action. Some fighters took to the air without live ammunition,.....

Bottom line the CIA, FBI and other domestic agencies were "sleeping", NORAD was ill prepared and caught in their night jammies, and the nation never expected that anyone could attack them in their own heart...too trusting in the goodness of people who come to live in America from the world over!

For a summary of what led to 911 and what we learnt from it, our young readers may wish to read this link:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_11_attacks

I was watching for hours with horror and amazement as the events were unfolding , wondering where are our defense forces....caught sleeping. And that is the day the sleeping Giant woke up, kicked in its own belly, by the radicals who were thought to be inconsequential until then.

And yes, if that does not explain it enough, please read the entire report. :)

I don't watch the news often, I don't find myself having much time. I listen to news radio in the morning and thats where I get most my news.. it did talk about the explosion.. but even our local news/media didn't talk about the explosion at the level that Melpo's news did.

I get sick of the news to be honest. It's all doom and gloom and in reality there's nothing I can do about it. People are still going to kill people, be sick, and make bad choices.. They spread hatred around. I would love to see nice, happy things on the news but thats only on the slow news days :) I used to immerse myself in politics and the news, but I've since become more spiritual and gone along a different path.

And I was brought up by a dad, who read his entire daily newspaper, watched TV news nightly when TV became available) and trusted the widespread Int'l coverage of BBC more than his own country's news. Then he went about his busy day of teaching medicine and treating the sick & needy. Very little religion, in our lives, or speculation :) Simply focusing on the facts and learning to analyze them really well, and requote them when necessary.

These traditional values of learning were more important to us as kids when growing up, than focusing on religion or speculation. So I am different too :)

I don't really speculate. I learn the facts that I need to learn, but on widescale issues such as government/terrorism, do you ever really know the facts? I don't think any of us do.

I think being on the internet seems to cause misunderstandings more often than not. What I meant by "speculation" above, was not a retort, but an expression that we were not allowed to speculate in science or politics or school/college without a solid basis to back it up..or else risk being blown away by our peers or teachers.

So I apologize, I am not trying to antagonize anyone here...damn the internet :)

Philosophy is much different than science, its entire foundation is based on speculation. Religion, spiritualism, theology, literature and art are to me extensions of forms of Philosophical expression....and hence seem a bit out of place for people who work in fields connected to science. One seems to naturally learn to extend one's scientific training to analyze everything objectively for facts or fiction. (and that is why I wonder about your speculations Gaurav, pretty wild and far fetched :)

Im not trying to be political only offering information that all should know. Once we come to grips with reality will we then begin to protect our people and understand.. We are in conflict with an enemy so brutal and ignorant it is a scourge beyond biblical proportions. We need leadership that recognizes this or it will only get worse. No more excuses for ignorance.
which news media one excepts to be believed as truths reveals itself by the ignorance pervayed as truths. Facts are more complicated then simple explanations and more the fuel for hate when in fact truths.
